00:00:00Ladies and gentlemen, I am in Simi Valley, California, and I'm very excited because we
00:00:10have just secured a location that was used in the filming of one of the most classic
00:00:18horror films in American history. Now, this film was produced by Steven Spielberg,
00:00:25directed by Tobe Hooper. This film was full of conflict, controversy, and a curse.
00:00:35This is not only an iconic location, but this is an absolutely historic investigation
00:00:43for the Ghost Adventures crew. Ladies and gentlemen, buckle up, get ready. We are going to investigate
00:00:54the Poltergeist House. There are things in this world that we will never fully understand.
00:01:10Understand. We want answers. We have worked years to build our credibility, our reputation.
00:01:20Working alongside the most renowned professionals in the field, capturing groundbreaking proof
00:01:28of the paranormal. It's working. I can't give you an explanation.

00:01:47What are you guys feeling right now? Weird. It's like this weird, eerie feeling.
00:01:53Well, there's so many stories through the movie, the production, everything.
00:01:56I feel weird, like nervous and scared, but happy and excited. It's weird.
00:02:01This has been such an iconic film my entire life. It's one of the most classic horror films.
00:02:06Yeah. It's so weird to say that as a little boy, how things happen in life, and there I was,
00:02:15just a, like I said, a little boy watching this movie, more terrified about the clown doll
00:02:23in Poltergeist than anything that I've ever seen in my entire life. And the way that I face
00:02:30my fears is now, I own what I was once scared of. Not only do I own the clown doll that was
00:02:38used in the movie, but look at where we're going right now. This house has been owned by the same
00:02:45family, I believe, for 45 years. Oh, wow.
00:02:49And the story just broke on worldwide media that the house was for sale last month.
00:02:55And here we are, driving through the neighborhood to investigate the Poltergeist house.
00:03:04Wow.
00:03:05So there's a lot of truth behind the parallels of the reality of the house and where it sits
00:03:12to the movie.
00:03:14The Poltergeist franchise is an icon of horror. It begins with the story of a family who unknowingly
00:03:24moves into a house built on a Native American burial ground. What follows is a malevolent force
00:03:32that tries to destroy the family and the home itself. It turns out the home where the film
00:03:39was shot is actually built on Chumash land. And some believe this caused a curse that terrorized
00:03:46the cast and crew of the film.
00:03:50June 4th, 1982. Poltergeist hits theaters. The film instantly becomes a nationwide phenomenon.
00:04:00Five months after its release, actress Dominique Dunn, who played the eldest daughter of the Freeling
00:04:07family, is strangled to death by her ex-boyfriend. Her senseless murder shakes Hollywood to its core.
00:04:171985. On the set of Poltergeist II, the cast and crew is plagued by lights falling, shadow figures,
00:04:26and strange noises. Actor and real-life shaman Will Sampson is asked to perform an exorcism on the set.
00:04:33And while it helps the cast and crew finish the 64-day shoot, it has unforeseen consequences.
00:04:42Will Sampson dies two years later from complications of a heart and lung transplant.
00:04:49September 14th, 1985. During the film's post-production, actor Julian Beck passes away from cancer.
00:04:57February 1st, 1988. Four months before the release of Poltergeist III, actress Heather O'Rourke,
00:05:06who played the beloved Carol Ann in all three of the Poltergeist films, tragically dies of a mysterious
00:05:14illness at the young age of 12. News of her untimely death races across the globe.
00:05:21January 2004. Poltergeist II director Brian Gibson dies at age 59 of bone cancer.
00:05:30April 1st, 2009. Actor Lou Perryman is murdered with an axe.
00:05:40This is it, you guys. This is the street.
00:05:42Wow. Do you see it? Oh my god, this is it right here. Oh my god, it is. Look at that.
00:05:54I am not lost for words many times, but right now, there's a photo of Heather O'Rourke and I believe
00:06:02she's sitting down. I believe she's sitting right here, playing with her doll.
00:06:07And whenever I saw that, I said, man, I would do anything to investigate that house.
00:06:16There is a reason why we were able to have access to this place less than a month after it was sold.
00:06:26There's a reason why we were reached. There's a reason why we're standing here right now.
00:06:32And if it has anything to do with any of those that were affected by the film's curse,
00:06:40or the family that lived in here during filming and the ones who just sold it,
00:06:47three members of that family died inside of this house.
00:06:51The most recent death took place in 2020.
00:06:55Is the poltergeist curse still active? Does it continue to wreak havoc on those who step foot
00:07:02inside this home, even to this day? And the crazy part about this investigation
00:07:11is nobody has officially investigated the curse of the film and where it could have potentially
00:07:21originated from. This is the house they filmed at. They filmed a lot here.
00:07:26Yeah.
00:07:27And the plot of the film is what? Based on a house that's on a sacred ground of Native Americans,
00:07:35right? Which this most likely would be that. This is sacred ground of the Chumash.
00:07:42Just behind this house, you can see the mountain right there. See the mountain? See the top of it?
00:07:48Yeah. That was one of the largest villages of the Chumash in Southern California.
00:07:54So yeah. The truth that lies underneath of this house, the truth in the history of Simi Valley,
00:08:03was that truth the actual plot for the poltergeist? It pretty much was.
00:08:11Yeah. And when they filmed here and when they carried out these scenes involving real skeletons
00:08:19dug into the ground, did that desecrate the ground? Yeah.
00:08:23In the house. I have big news. We flew in somebody that was very important during the production of
00:08:34the poltergeist films. The psychic advisor. The real life psychic that advised the film staff,
00:08:42the crew, the director, the cast, everybody. Wow.
00:08:46Her name is Jill Cook Richards.
00:08:51Ladies and gentlemen at home, Billy, Jay, Aaron. This is an absolute iconic investigation.
00:09:00And for the first time, we're not just investigating a house. We're investigating a curse.
00:09:16To begin our investigation, we've asked the homeowner for permission to explore the home alone in an
00:09:23attempt to connect with the energy here, without any influence. They're here.

00:10:19I first discovered that the house was for sale. Actually, I kind of knew it was for sale. And I
00:10:31don't know how or why. Um, I just knew. And, uh, I actually didn't see the ad until even, uh, another
00:10:40week or two. It just kind of magically appeared in my feed and, uh, kind of fast forward and,
00:10:44uh, put in an offer and here I am.
00:10:51I know this was just a scene in a fictional movie, but that fictional movie, um, had something to do
00:10:58with a very real curse. Um, but I could not come to the poltergeist house without seeing this TV and
00:11:10not turning it on and touching the screen.
00:11:14I don't know how to do it.
00:11:16Now, within paranormal investigations, there's something called ITC. Billy, talk to me about
00:11:21what ITC is.
00:11:22ITC is Instrumental Transcommunication. It's when you use electronic devices to try and use
00:11:27the electromagnetic field and devices to get communication through those devices. And there
00:11:33are many different types of ITC devices. We use several.
00:11:36This home is built on land that the Chumash people have a sacred connection to.
00:11:46A connection that lives on to this very day.
00:11:49So this is Beverly Fulkes. She is an elder with the Tataviam tribe as well as Chumash. And this is

00:12:07So, okay. Any discoveries here? Do you know where the burial grounds would be?
00:12:13So I was going to say, so Chumash and Tataviam tribes have been here for such a long period of
00:12:20time. So we know at least 13,000 years. That's unfathomable. And we're still here.
00:12:30Yes, we're still here. I like to say that too. Sorry.
00:12:32Throughout time, their village sites changed. So let's say 5,000 years ago, they lived at the
00:12:38village of Ta'apu and they had their burial right next to it. But that was maybe just a thousand years
00:12:44or so. So what about before that? It would have been here, there.
00:12:48Where did the Chumash live? How close to this area?
00:12:51They could have actually lived right here. Because this was all open land.
00:12:56Really?
00:12:56And this is where they settled, the Chumash and the Tataviam.
00:13:00Okay.
00:13:01And they were all over this area.
00:13:04Really?
00:13:04So they could very well have been right here.
00:13:07Let's just theorize that this could have been a burial ground right here.
00:13:12They talk about a curse that afflicted the cast and the crew on the film. And they also experienced a
00:13:22lot of supernatural events to where they had to have a real exorcism on set. So in the movie,
00:13:30this swimming pool that we're looking at right now, this was the actual hole that was dug for a scene with the actress. She was in here.
00:13:40And they put a bunch of humans, a real life human skeletons in the pool with her.
00:13:46And she was screaming. And they were using these skeletons as props for the film.
00:13:52I want to ask you, while they dug the hole in this ground right here, could that initiate
00:13:59something like a curse or angry spirits?
00:14:02It could.
00:14:04I've been involved with burials in several different areas, some neighborhoods.
00:14:13I was called on one where it was right in a neighborhood like this, and they were building a home,
00:14:20and they found a burial. The whole neighborhood was scared. They were-
00:14:25Scared of what?
00:14:28They were scared of the fact that the remains had been found.
00:14:34I now ask this woman, who is a Chumash elder, if disturbing these remains found on home sites
00:14:41could cause an angry spirit.
00:14:43I know one thing for sure, as beautiful as those homes are, and if they wanted to give it to me,
00:14:49I wouldn't move in here.
00:14:51Why? Because of the activity?
00:14:53Because of- Because I know that I would feel like I was invading
00:14:59the spirits. That's the way I would feel.
00:15:00Really? And could this possibly be replicating that?

00:15:11Did the film crew unknowingly disturb a sacred burial when digging the pool?
00:15:15And did their use of real human skeletons, combined with a very emotional scene, unlock a gateway to a
00:15:25forbidden dimension that has injected this property with a curse?

00:15:36I was taking readings with the Trifield meter, and it was like a half of a mill of gas, not even one.
00:15:43The whole upstairs, nothing.
00:15:44While Aaron attempts to capture photographic evidence.
00:15:49So right now, we're just walking around with lights all on.
00:15:53You and me are pretty much the only one in the house.
00:15:55And we're just snapping pictures and trying to capture something.
00:15:58The first time visiting the house was for a tour of the house.
00:16:04And it was pretty uneventful, just like any other house tour.
00:16:08But when I came back for inspections, there were a couple times that I got very kind of dizzy.
00:16:16Felt like I was being kind of like pulled down.
00:16:18I was nauseous, lightheaded.
00:16:22And I had to go sit on the stairs for a period of time.
00:16:26I got a little kind of chill in the back of my arms.
00:16:28It all happened simultaneously at the same time.
00:16:32And I'm a pretty healthy person.
00:16:37So it's very, very out of character for me.
00:16:39When I left the building, I was normal.
00:16:42Everything returned to normal.
00:16:50Roll, roll, roll.
00:16:51So we were up, like you said, go in there, take some Polaroids, do some EMF.
00:16:59Just check it out, right?
00:17:00So we've been in here doing the whole thing.
00:17:01I come out, and you're standing here, and the lights start flickering on at us.

00:25:52I'm still not fully convinced they're paranormal.

00:26:19And I heard that Spielberg was producing a movie.
00:26:22So as a film student, I got my Super 8 camera, came over,
00:26:26stood across the street for, uh, probably seven days straight while they were filming at this house.
00:26:31Wow.
00:26:32It was usually from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
00:26:34Did you meet...
00:26:35You said you met Spielberg?
00:26:37Well, I came up here to the store right here, and the casket that comes out onto the station wagon,
00:26:42they were prepping that.
00:26:44Really?
00:26:44So I stood here and just looked at it, and it was just me, and then out of nowhere comes, uh,
00:26:51Steven Spielberg.
00:26:51Really?
00:26:52And he stands there, and he goes, hey, what's going on?
00:26:55And I say, hey, I'm a film student.
00:26:58Right now, this week, we're studying you.
00:27:00You're talking to Steven Spielberg?
00:27:01Just him and I, right here at the store, and the skeleton.
00:27:04Wow.
00:27:05And, uh, so I said, yeah, we're studying you for the week.
00:27:09And he goes, why me?
00:27:10And I go, you know, all the things you've already done.
00:27:13Yeah.
00:27:13And he goes, uh, well, I have a new movie that I'm about to start.
00:27:17And I go, okay, what's that called?
00:27:19And he goes, it's a movie called E.T.
00:27:21Jeez.
00:27:22So I go, oh, and I asked him what it was about, and he gave me a quick synopsis.
00:27:26That's crazy.
00:27:27And then, uh, and then we left it at that.
00:27:29And then he goes, you know, feel free to stay, feel free to take whatever I want,
00:27:33to film whatever I want back in the Super 8.
00:27:36Did you ever witness anything that seemed strange on the movie set of Poltergeist?
00:27:46The strangest thing I saw is as soon as I walked in the house, and again, I was over there.
00:27:51You walked in the house?
00:27:53So as a 18-year-old, I waited until everybody went to lunch.
00:27:58And then I walked into the house.
00:28:00What did you see?
00:28:00As soon as I walked into the house, I saw a mound of dirt.
00:28:06Brian takes me inside the house to show me where this strange mound of dirt was located.
00:28:13I'm going to say the dirt was over here, and it was a mound of dirt.
00:28:17It was on a piece of cardboard, and it was right here.
00:28:21And I could not understand why there was dirt in this, uh, people's home.
00:28:27If the Poltergeist curse originated from the disruption of sacred earth in the backyard,
00:28:33could bringing that soil inside have invited the curse into this home?

00:28:44So we're setting a shot up over here, and what did you guys see?
00:28:50Second floor, the light just got really, really intensely bright,
00:28:54and then dropped down to normal light, and now just dimmed down to that.
00:29:00This is like literally the movie is like replicating right now,
00:29:03because they did that through those windows.
00:29:05Yeah.
00:29:06It got bright.
00:29:07It was like a bright flash.
00:29:09I saw it.
00:29:10And there's nobody in there, is there?

00:29:14As we review the cameras that were rolling at the time,
00:29:17we actually find one that captured this moment.

01:05:48We went into this investigation very skeptical of an actual haunting because the house is based upon a fictionalized movie dealing with fictional ghosts.
01:05:58However, knowing that there was some truth to that movie storyline and the backstory of these Native American grounds, and then us validating that with elders of the Chumash made us realize, wow, this curse could be very real.
01:06:17And once we started digging into the history of the house, the family that lived there, the three deaths, what's going on with the current owner, I don't think any of us expected the sensation that we felt when we walked inside this house.

01:06:40The scientific evidence that we documented, the EMF readings, the anomalies, the visual, the poltergeist activity, the doll that you just saw, it fell by itself after it was sitting there all night.

01:11:29you had a big reaction and you said there was a spirit inside of it why would you think something
01:11:34like this would be a vessel for a spirit because that was his purpose his purpose was to be scary

01:12:30over top of zach it's free floating there's you see it's nothing behind it now it's putting its hand

01:13:18it's a weird shape that is not any type of flying insect that is not a dust particle no no it grows in

01:13:43oh there's light there rachel is pointing to the same interesting attribute of the mist anomaly that
01:13:50caught my eye during this review it appears as though there are tiny dots of illumination within the
01:13:56slightly larger mist form what's wild is it's coming out of the ground and what do we know about the
01:14:03ground that backs up the theory that all this is coming from the ground oh i didn't even think of

01:15:31is when we were using the polter pod in there aaron was using it for how long before this happened 30
01:15:37minutes and there was nothing that whole time not a speck of a single voice absolutely nothing
01:15:44and then all of a sudden this crystal clear voice comes out of nowhere and says something that i think
01:15:50is native american
01:15:57that gives you chills doesn't it it does so we tried and tried and tried if anybody recognizes this voice
01:16:05from any culture any language at all post something online we will look help us yeah i think that is
01:16:13important because of how long it took for us to get that voice yeah we didn't get any more voices
01:16:19after that right so it was like okay let's change to another device the apfd processor
01:16:24do you see a little girl you hear it right there it's a female type sound
01:16:40and the interesting part is before we even began our investigation we started hearing some female type
01:16:46sounds real low faint but we could hear them coming from this room um okay go ahead next piece okay same

01:17:00after 35 minutes we're getting there are several things there there's three things
01:17:06zach asks the question is there a little girl here and right after that a voice says no
01:17:13and then there's a pause and another voice a different voice says she left and then zach starts talking

01:18:32most disturbing things it wasn't that i even just heard it i felt it

01:20:20we now begin reviewing the polaroids that aaron took
01:20:26i would say there's at least 100 there easy after all that i got three pictures that have something
01:20:33on it the first one is a strange light anomaly that's coming from zach in all the other photos
01:20:40there is no weird light anomalies like this that wrap around his body and i will say in this exact moment
01:20:47when this photo was taken i stood in that same position the entire time absolutely still we are
01:20:54now ready to review the footage of heather o'rourke's doll falling off the bookcase
01:21:01at the beginning of the night we placed the doll on a bookcase along with a baby monitor which i used
01:21:07to ask the doll to ask the doll to move can you move the doll in the room at this point it was the
01:21:18end of the night hours had passed when something incredible happened i want you to watch what happens
01:21:26to this doll oh my god and that's been sitting there all night it's been sitting there all night
01:21:42now the question is did it just fall over due to gravity or did something influence it to fall
01:21:50go back to it yeah that doll was stationary what is that glowing on it is there something in its hair
01:21:57oh yeah right there i see that but then it goes away are you serious it's not moving it goes
01:22:02it just went away stop glowing it isn't until now that we make this discovery of a strange glowing light
01:22:11right here in her hair that then slowly dims to dark what what the is that dude how in the hell
01:22:22and it's not some battery in the thing because it's old there's no electronics in it at all yeah
01:22:27there aren't any light no it's like that little but light that was outside the window
01:22:33but the light goes away maybe did you see that the energy what is your what is your take on that
01:22:41my initial take on it is that it came down right almost as if it were dragged right but the light
