Marcus Rashford will be Barcelona's latest signing, but does he have what it takes to tactically fit in at Camp Nou?
Transcript
00:00Will Marcus Rashford make it at Barcelona? This is a move that could either be a total disaster
00:04or a stroke of genius. Now we all know what Marcus Rashford is good at. Pace. His elite
00:10weapon isn't just pace but it's how he uses it. He's bread and butter in this specific arch run
00:14from the left and for a team like Barca who leads La Liga in through balls this movement is
00:19theoretically unstoppable. But here's of course the first tactical problem. He's so right-footed
00:24that when he's on his left he becomes almost ineffective. So capable defenders will know
00:29that he has to cut in to shoot. So this makes him quite predictable and easy to defend against
00:33in settled play. Neutralising that initial threat. His second major flaw is against compact defences
00:39and Barca fans will know all too well about that. Low blocks against Barca are very common.
00:44Flick likes to play high intensity high reward football and of course games where he can
00:48dictate the play. Barca are going to be against that sort of opposition quite a lot. He can't
00:53link up play like a traditional number nine and whilst he's a great ball carrier in space his 1v1
00:58take on success plummets to just 44% when facing a set defender. So the verdict. Rashford isn't
01:04a player to build a team around. He's a specialist tool. He's a game changer against high lines
01:09and the devastating impact sub. But can he adapt those core mechanics for Barca's philosophy?
01:14Well that's the million dollar question. But what's your analysis? Will he do it at
01:18Barcelona and find himself again away from the English media?
