00:15Or, oh man, I remember how it was before Sonic Boom.
00:19Now the reason why I thought of making this video was, now don't kill me, but when I
00:24was young I used to be in that crowd that hated Amy Rose.
00:28And looking back, I still don't blame my younger self.
00:31I was most definitely not the only one who used to hate Amy back then.
00:35It was actually a very common opinion.
00:38Now remember, I'm only making this video to talk about the history of why people didn't
00:42like Amy back then and the evolution of this character and the fandom opinion over this
00:47pink rat.
00:48Whether it's good opinions or bad opinions.
00:51Now these reasons get annoying and annoying and bullcrap every single time I hear it.
00:56If I hit a top 10 list of the worst Sonic the Hedgehog characters, Amy is pretty much on
01:01it all the time.
01:02Something changed after Sonic Boom and I noticed that she started to become more light.
01:06So much that in 2023, Amy Rose was actually showing up almost everywhere.
01:12She has came a long way.
01:13She might not be my favorite character, but I finally have respect for her as a character.
01:19And she slowly started to grow on me, although this hate didn't start from nowhere.
01:24People like to say this in regards of Sonic.
01:26Sonic had a rocky history into 3D, and it was always inconsistent when he first stepped into
01:31something new.
01:32Although I can't say that when Amy first came out.
01:36You see, there is a reason why no one talks about Amy Rose in the 90s, mostly because she
01:40was not being pushed to the masses like the main trio, Knuckles, Sonic, and Tails.
01:45But she still made appearances because she was the first female character, let alone female
01:50hedgehog, in a mainline official Sonic game.
01:54So Sonic Team of course have to deal with what they got.
01:57Since we are Sonic fans, we already know Amy got introduced in Sonic CD.
02:01And her first appearance was the fact that she was a fangirl of the Blue Rat.
02:06It's a simple idea.
02:07Funny enough, Sonic Team knew what characteristics their characters should have.
02:11But of course things had to change, even though Amy was introduced in the early 90s, they never
02:17actually expanded upon her character.
02:20So there was no loud buzz around this character.
02:23Of course there were fans, but nothing significant.
02:26But like I said before, things have changed, and there was a slight change around this character
02:31when Sonic Adventure was released.
02:33Sonic Adventure was the first time Amy actually had a personality.
02:37Amy always had this happy energy in her classic renditions, and it seems like this stayed here
02:42too.
02:43Amy is cheerful, youthful, and slightly erratic, but is still overall positive with a crazy
02:48amount of energy.
02:49But of course you had to add the cherry on top.
02:51Amy the Pink Rat is still a fangirl of the Blue Rat, but more on the marriage side of things.
02:57Now since the first introduction of Amy in Sonic CD, Sonic is not a fan of that lovey dovey
03:02stuff, which is understandable.
03:03He just wanted to run, chill, and run again.
03:07We understood that, Sonic understood that, but Amy does not.
03:12But that was part of the early charm, whether you like it or not.
03:14Amy is still young and dumb, and sometimes can be slightly annoying.
03:19Now talk to old Sonic fans who was also experienced with the rollercoaster ride of Amy Rose between
03:241998 with Sonic Adventure and all the way to Sonic Generations.
03:29Because almost everyone I've talked to agreed that more than a decade, Amy Rose was considered
03:34one of the most annoying characters or most controversial characters in the series.
03:39So it was a lose-lose situation.
03:42Before I go into the detailed fandom history, I have to continue explaining the inconsistencies
03:46of Amy Rose during the 2000s.
03:48Amy Rose during Sonic Adventure was the start of all this, but it was definitely not the boiling
03:54point.
03:55It was still commonplace that she was still a rampant fangirl.
03:58Some may consider her annoying, but in my personal opinion, it wasn't too crazy.
04:03It's the future games where it started to ramp up, but it's still not there yet.
04:07Sonic Adventure 2 basically was on the same boat, but Sonic fans have obviously noticed the
04:11trend with the pink rat.
04:13She is mad in love with Sonic.
04:15Oh, also including the fact that she might be colorblind.
04:18Amy and Sonic Adventure 2 have the same personality as SA1, but of course with a little more inspiration
04:24for marriage.
04:25Although it's extremely clear that Sonic does not want any of that, or haven't been
04:29wanting any of that for a while now.
04:31There was a joke towards Amy around the fandom that really wasn't meant to be taken serious,
04:36but over time it has slowly become one of the reasons why she was so hated during the time.
04:41Now Amy fans don't hate me, I'm just the messenger.
04:45But this early joke was that people were calling Amy the stalker obsessed fangirl.
04:51At this time it was just a permless joke, don't even take it serious.
04:55Because you have this picture that Sonic is interested in Amy Rose, but Amy keeps trying
05:00him anyways.
05:01Sonic Team did this gag like 2 times now, and you could say 2.5 times because Sonic CD existed,
05:07it's kinda hard to say.
05:09It's understandable that some people were not a fan of the gag of Amy constantly trying
05:13to shoot or shot, but it was nothing too bad, only until Sonic Heroes came out.
05:19Sonic Heroes personality in Sonic Adventure was youthful, erratic, cheerful, and full of
05:23life, and of course with a side of liking Sonic.
05:26Now in Sonic Heroes, there were some drastic changes.
05:30Sonic Team decided to just give her a little douse of cheerful attitude, and with the loud
05:34douse of chasing Sonic and wanting to force him to be her man.
05:39Sonic Heroes was the firing shot of the hatred around Amy Rose, and believe me, this isn't
05:44the worst version of Amy, and it started to become cool not to like her.
05:49And imma be honest, I was not a fan of this rendition either.
05:53I was looking on reddit to see if someone had the same opinion, and I saw this.
05:57I think Sonic Heroes take on Amy Rose is not bad or horrible, as people made it out to be.
06:03I do have to point out that he had to say hot take, because people were not a fan of Amy
06:12in this game.
06:13So of course, I read the comment, and the first comment kinda explained everything.
06:18He said yes, but compared to the adventure games, she seemed like a crazy stalker.
06:23Like she literally fought him to marry him.
06:26And it got worse than Sonic Battle.
06:28Oh my god, I almost forgot about Sonic Battle, but let's focus on the 3D games.
06:33You know, the games that people like to focus on.
06:36So during this time, Sonic Team was unsure about the direction they wanted to go with
06:40her.
06:41Did they specifically want her to be a comic relief?
06:43A passionate happy go lucky girl?
06:46A crazed yandere?
06:48Sonic Team didn't know, but the Sonic fans did care because all they saw was Amy was changing,
06:53and was not a fan.
06:55The internet was still early, but there was forms, animations, and art basically joking
07:00at the fact that Amy is getting a little crazy.
07:03Also including the fact that after Sonic Heroes, she barely contributes to anything while also
07:08being the most despised character in the series.
07:11Nobody liked when her characterization revolves around Amy's crush on Sonic.
07:15It was a huge problem during the 2000s.
07:19Because when her motivation is just about Sonic, it makes all of her personality traits become
07:23less appealing.
07:25And just to add on to the fact, just becoming overall BORING, Sonic Team is not good with
07:30love stories at all.
07:33Sonic Heroes, Sonic 06, and Sonic Riders series, or specifically, Sonic Free Riders were the worst
07:39at this.
07:40In Free Riders, Amy seems to have this temper and can be extremely rude and selfish in the
07:45way.
07:46Basically, challenging anyone who interferes with her love against Sonic.
07:50Against enemies?
07:51Sure, that makes sense, but her own friends?
07:54That does not fly.
07:55And no Sonic fans likes that.
07:57And also on a side note, this was also during a time where this Sonic stupid friends conversation
08:03was becoming a thing.
08:04So Amy being in that situation was extremely bad timing, including the fact that people
08:09noticed that Amy is just there.
08:11Like, she was literally just there.
08:13In the first Sonic Riders game, Amy was just, you know, there.
08:17Of course, because Sonic is joining the race, so did we expect anything more?
08:22Pretty much, all she does is respond to Wave dissing Tails in front of her friends, and getting
08:27caught by Eggman, and Amy getting mad at Sonic for not saving her the right way.
08:32And that's pretty much it, nothing really too offensive there?
08:37All it shows is that Amy still has a temper that was shown in Sonic Heroes, and during
08:41the time, Sonic X.
08:43And Zero Gravity is basically the same thing, but at least she has a little bit more to do.
08:48Of course, all she wants to talk about is Sonic, Sonic, Sonic.
08:51Like, we get the joke.
08:53Amy loves Sonic.
08:54Although, thank god sometimes she thinks of something else other than Sonic and actually
08:58helps out the team a bit.
09:00Like, it's so weird.
09:02While look at old posts of why people hate Amy.
09:04It's always revolved around her crazy obsession around Sonic, and the overall inconsistency
09:10with this pink rat.
09:11Like one game, she's a crazy lunatic.
09:13The other game, she's short tempered, and just overall can sometimes be a straight up
09:18bitch.
09:19Then the next game, she's literally just girl.
09:22Oh, yeah, Sonic 06.
09:24Sometimes I think, I don't even know if she was in the story originally, but this portrayal
09:28of Amy is just overall boring, but funny as hell.
09:32The fandom was already dogging on her for being obsessive, now people are dogging on her for
09:36being blind.
09:37Amy fans, y'all cannot lie.
09:40Amy in Sonic 06 was BORING.
09:42Remember when I talked about that people hate the fact that when her character only revolves
09:47around Sonic, it just becomes boring, dull, and annoying?
09:50Because it just makes all of her other personalities get pushed to the side.
09:54This game is an example.
09:56Literally when you play Amy for the first time, her first mission is literally find Sonic.
10:02Kinda on the nose, am I right?
10:03Hell, her entire story is literally trying to find Sonic, and it didn't help when she
10:08was the worst character to play in the entire game.
10:11Damn, can this pink rat get a break?
10:14Like seriously, Amy can do more than just chase Sonic.
10:17The stalker fangirl thing back in 2002 was just a joke.
10:21Now you might argue that Amy was not a stalker, or whatever, but you admit that from Sonic
10:26Heroes all the way to Sonic 06, and kinda Free Riders, she was an obsessed fangirl.
10:33Like all she talked about was talking about Sonic.
10:36I was doing more research and I found the funniest article.
10:39Five dumbest things Amy Rose have done.

10:43She's blind.
10:44I think everyone is aware of that.

10:47She gets herself into trouble.
10:48Yeah, I guess I'm comfortable to agree with that.
10:51Sonic Riders, Sonic CD, and both of the adventure games would love to drink to that.

10:57Get married or get smashed.
10:59Cream and Big are just after their missing child and frog and friends respectively.
11:04But Amy wants to achieve her one big goal, marry Sonic.
11:08Oh, oh, oh, this paragraph is funny.

11:11Sega often crossed the line between crushing on someone and being a stalker with Amy Rose.
11:17This is a big leap across it.
11:19Amy and the adventure games were so much more normal than her hero's Amy.
11:24Let's move to number 2.
11:25And number 2 says,

11:28Well, this is not a good reason why people consider her annoying back then.
11:31Yeah, she was obsessed as a hero's counterpart, but over-training is not something that comes
11:37up in terms of the Amy Rose discussion around the fandom.
11:41Then we got number 1.
11:43Devotion becomes obsession.
11:45And he pretty much talks about the situation where Amy says,
11:48Even if that was true, if I had to choose between the world and Sonic, I would choose Sonic.
11:54You know, the choice of saving Sonic was actually a good one.
11:58Although I think her reasoning of saying that was not the best reason.
12:02And of course the fandom noticed that too.
12:04If I had to choose between the world and Sonic, I would choose Sonic.

12:11After Amy saves Sonic, our incompetent hero, and helps him escape from Silver, she says this little nugget.
12:17Even if Sonic turned evil, and totally became a super villain who destroys the world,
12:22she'd still choose to be with Sonic.
12:24What in the fuck?!
12:26I don't care what happens to the world!
12:29Wait, Elise says that too?!
12:31What the hell is this game teaching people?!
12:33If you really love someone, put up with all the evil things they do, because true love is eternal, baby!
12:39Doesn't matter if Sonic abuses you, cheats on you, insults your friends, and acts like a dick, stick with him!
12:45Because true love!
12:47God, what a terrible message!
12:49Amy Rose loves Sonic BECAUSE he's a hero!
12:53She would not like him anymore if he stopped being Sonic-like!
12:57The old SA1 Amy would never say this!
13:00After the disaster of Sonical 6, people were just done with the side characters in general.
13:05The inconsistency and characteristics of the side characters were getting exhausting.
13:10And you better know that Amy was one of the top examples.
13:13So of course, things had to change.
13:15Sonic Team decided to dial back the Amy crazed obsession, or just decided to dial back the putting
13:21focus on it.
13:22Sonic at least felt like a turning point for Amy.
13:24Even when I was a prime Amy Rose hater, I had to admit she was more tolerable than her previous
13:31renditions, and other people agreed too.
13:33Even though Amy was still blind as hell, and obviously still has a crush on Sonic,
13:38Sonic Team did something revolutionary and actually used that characteristic of Amy liking
13:44Sonic in a good way this time.
13:45There's a scene where Amy hugs the werehog and randomly decides to push Sonic, like thanks,
13:50you're the one who hugged me, why am I getting hit?
13:53The one time Amy actually hugs Sonic, but she doesn't recognize him.
13:57That clearly hurts Sonic.
13:59Now it might not be a huge impact of the game, but it's a good scene to show how Sonic feels
14:04being stuck in this monster form.
14:06There's a huge difference of Amy's love writing between the previous games, like Heroes,
14:11Riders, and 06, compared to Sonic Unleashed.
14:14Those games only focus on it, while making her a nuisance or just boring.
14:19Unleashed knew the limitations.
14:21We all know she's a fan of Sonic, but people hate it when you destroy a character because it's a gag.
14:27Amy and Secret Rings and Black Knight aren't really worthy to talk about because they aren't the
14:31same people, even though they look similar.
14:33This Amy Rose hate still existed, but it wasn't as crazy up until Free Riders came.
14:39I briefly talked about how bad she was in this game, but anyone who have seen the cutscenes
14:44know this is the worst version of her.
14:46Like, she is so different and incredibly rude in this game, and treats her friends like trash.
14:52Sometimes I wonder if this was even Amy at all.
14:55You know what, fuck it, this is not Amy.
14:57Just when I thought Amy was getting consistent, they pull one last Hail Mary before things start
15:03to get good.
15:03After the disaster of Sonic Free Riders, Amy's antics started to go down.
15:08Was it because she was pushed to the sideline?
15:10I think so.
15:11Sonic Generations, Sonic Lost World, she was normal.
15:15She really didn't contribute much, although her reputation over the years still didn't get any better.
15:21Not up until Sonic Boom came out.
15:23Sonic Boom was a surprising miracle for Amy.
15:27Yeah, people liked the joke that she was literally just
15:30woman and still kinda had her temper, but something changed.
15:33And surprisingly, the fandom liked it.
15:36And surprisingly, I liked it.
15:37This was during a time where I hated Sonic.
15:40Sonic and Amy and Sonic Boom were nervous to confess that they actually liked each other.
15:44Although, it was subtle and not always in your face.
15:47And most importantly, not one sided.
15:50It was, and I can't believe I'm saying this.

16:00And that's why the fandom been going to Rampage like they did in 2000.
16:04Sonic Team seemed to notice the change too.
16:07And after the failure of Sonic Boom, Amy's characteristics started to change.
16:11For the first time in forever, Sonic Team focused on her different and more interesting characteristics.
16:17Although, I have to admit, I miss when she had a temper.
16:20Only when she uses it against the bad guys.
16:22Not against her friends.
16:23Amy now, since Sonic Boom all the way from her recent Sonic Frontiers,
16:28nothing controversial around the fandom has been going around.
16:31She's still caring, youthful, and, uh, you know, once I'm thinking about it, she's too normal.
16:39I've noticed multiple posts talking about the recent renditions of Amy Rose.
16:43Nothing too bad, but they say Amy back then was cute and full of energy.
16:48Now, some fans now are saying that this version of Amy is boring or she's too mature.
16:54Or, oh, this one's gonna make people mad.
16:56Now, people like to say this.
16:58People are calling this modern version of Amy the Sally Acorn 2.0.
17:04Now, that might have triggered the new Amy Rose fans.
17:07But, I remember saying this before in my past videos.
17:10But, do I think that's true?
17:15But, man.
17:16Amy is one hell of a rollercoaster of a character.
17:19First, she was a damsel in distress who managed to like Sonic.
17:22Then, she's a bubbly, youthful girl who likes Sonic.
17:25Then, becomes a crazy lunatic who chases Sonic and wants to force him to marry her.
17:30Then, a short-tempered girl who cares about her friends while also liking Sonic.
17:35Then, just girl.
17:36Then, becomes Satan herself becoming a brat in the worst rendition of her character.
17:41Then, becomes a spin-off of herself and finally has a little bit of balance with all of her
17:46characteristics.
17:47But, leading up to the Amy Rose that we know now.
17:49You know, becoming the most mature Amy we have seen in a while.
17:53In both good and, sometimes people like to say, boring ways.
17:57But, from the fans' point of view, over the decades, she's become a girl who got
18:02saved by Sonic, to a youthful girl who likes Sonic, to bipolar blind, obsessed soccer fangirl,
18:08to mature, or if you want to say this, boring, or Sally 2.0.
18:13You didn't get that from me.
18:14This is the Sonic fandom speaking.
18:16It's just the way it is.
18:18I'm not, I'm just a messenger.
18:19It's great to see that Sonic Team isn't treating Amy like a joke anymore,
18:23and actually involving her into good stuff.
18:26But, there needs to be a balance.
18:28Surprisingly, Sonic Boom has become a complete failure.
18:31Amy Rose in that spin-off was the least controversial and least complained rendition of her character
18:37in the entire series.
18:38There's a reason why people say Sonic Boom was a turning point for her reputation throughout
18:43the fandom.
18:43And to me personally, this is my favorite version of Amy.
18:47She still has the loving, youthful, and caring nature like her Sonic Adventure counterpart.
18:52Then she has a short temper of a writer series, and she has her iconic Sonic 06 girl talk moments.
18:58And you can say sometimes bratty parts from Sonic Free Riders, but it's not that bad.
19:04And then lastly, you can say that she is mature, and is capable to whoop some ass like her modern
19:09renditions.
19:09Honestly, on a side note, this version of Amy is still mature.
19:13She does not feel like Sally 2.0.
19:15She feels like Amy Rose.
19:17Her characteristics are not nerfed dramatically on one side.
19:21But this is my experience in the fandom experience of Amy throughout the fandom.
