00:00I don't even think we've ever thought about making a sequel.
00:02It was not even a, if someone brought it up to us, we were like, yeah, no, we're not going to do that.
00:08But there's no, like, moment that all of a sudden we went, aha, let's do it.
00:15It just kind of happened.
00:16The last couple of years, we've been talking about Happy.
00:21We've been talking about what might be funny that he's kind of, like, down and out and didn't have a life of, like, being on top and getting to, you know, live that legendary life that he was a legend.
00:37And then life hit him hard and he was back to struggling.
00:42And so we were like, well, that's actually, that could be fun to write something like that.
00:46And it kind of connected to our lives and this, this age and, and, and wanting to make a full-on comedy.
00:55My name is Happy Gilmore.
00:5830 years ago, I decided to give golf a try.
01:03But even when you're at the top of your game, you can always shank one.
01:10Happy Gilmore sucks.
01:11You know, we were outlining the story together.
01:13And then I remember we were just like, we should watch the first one again, man, because we're going off of our memory of, of so many things and, and hanging out with Carl Weathers and, and Bob Barker and all that stuff.
01:26And, and, and then we watched it and we were like, oh, wow.
01:30Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:30That's, it was a tone that we were like, oh yeah, that's kind of the tone, man.
01:35But we, we, we, we don't have the exact tone.
01:37We have a little bit more reality in this one of, of, of being a parent and, and stuff like that.
01:45But we, we try to keep the jokes as goofy as the first one.
01:50It wouldn't have been worth doing if it couldn't be as funny as, as the first one.
01:53And obviously when you do a sequel, it's going to be compared so hard to the first one.
01:57And, and so, so we needed to make it as funny as it was.
02:00And looking back, watching it together was like, we didn't give a shit.
02:04We just did joke after joke.
02:05And I mean, it was a little made, a little more sense than Billy Madison, but like, we weren't afraid to, to swing, swing, swing.
02:12Happy Gilmore didn't have things flowing on the first though.
02:15We didn't write Nicholas into the script.
02:33We didn't think we were getting, we didn't want to ask him to, to, to have a, a no, you know what I mean?
02:38And then somebody was, I forget who was like, we should ask him just because everybody else seems so excited to do it.
02:43Uh, but we, we never even imagined it, even if with all, you know, the cultural heft of, of Happy Gilmore, that we get Jack Nicholas to do it.
02:52That was like, we sat with Jack and, and, and his wife and, and Trevino and all, all these legends.
03:00And we were there for the whole day and, and Travis Kelsey was there that day and Bad Bunny and every, every, it was just so many funny, cool people around.
03:09But I'll tell you, having a conversation with Jack Nicholas, somebody that your father loved and, and the fact that it, it kind of like felt like when your dad was watching Johnny Carson, like your, your dad was buddies.
03:24That was his kind of buddy, Johnny Carson and Jack, in the daytime it was Jack Nicholas.
03:29And all of a sudden we're sitting and talking to Nicholas and he's telling us stories.
03:33And watching you play Mr. Gilmore. So inspiring.
03:35My dad loved you, man.
03:38Now we can do Jackass. Bingo.
03:45Ah!
