00:00Let's talk about this aircraft. Built 50 years ago, 1976 is when this aircraft has been in service since,
00:06and there's concerns that aging planes are still being used in these remote areas.
00:10Well, yeah, like, you know, 1976, it is, you know, ridiculous that they're still flying these kind of planes,
00:17but when you put it into context, actually, I looked up the statistics from the International Air Transport Association,
00:23and actually the ages of planes globally is getting, it's getting older and older, you know,
00:29so I don't want to scare everyone off going flying, but the average aircraft is about 14 years, 10 months at the end of last year,
00:37and that's 15 months older than it was in 1990, which is a quarter of a century ago.
00:42So in general, planes are just getting older.
00:45So in terms of the more modern ones, you can probably say it's because they've got better maintenance,
00:50we've got better safety standards, we've got better designed planes, but in general, the planes are getting older.
00:55Sure. So the question is why you're probably thinking.
00:58So some of it is to do with the delays that we've been talking a lot about in terms of Boeing, Airbus,
01:04and that is having a massive impact because if you can't get the new planes in,
01:09and even like Emirates, Eddie had, we've heard all of the headlines of like them complaining that they can't get the planes,
01:14and it is a big issue because last year 70% of the planes that were supposed to be delivered only got delivered,
01:20so that's at 30%, and this year it's expected to be the same.
01:23So when all of the top-tier airlines are waiting for all their planes,
01:29so you can imagine the guys are at the bottom, they're still running like 1970s jet.
