00:00The week-long episode of nasty and miserable weather that beset the homeland left tens of thousands displaced and needing help.
00:07At least 10,000 of them were rescued by the police and Coast Guard from rising floodwaters
00:12and moved to safer ground or evacuation sites using flotation devices much of the time.
00:18And as Orion Lecigas reports, there will be no respite for the PNP and PCG this weekend, given their high alert and standby status.
00:26Since typhoon cruising followed by the southwest monsoon hit the country, resulting in widespread flooding,
00:32there has been no let-up in the efforts of the Philippine Coast Guard or PCG personnel in conducting rescue operations.
00:37In these pictures from the PCG, you can see how they brave the rising floodwaters just to rescue residents trapped in their homes, children, elderly,
00:46even the belongings of the residents are being assisted by PCG personnel.
00:56According to the latest data from the PCG, more than 10,000 individuals have been evacuated by the agency from various regions of the country.
01:11The highest number of evacuees came from Metro Manila and Central Luzon, reaching nearly 6,000, almost 3,000 from Northwestern Luzon,
01:19and around 1,600 from Southern Tagalog.
01:22One challenge faced by the PCG personnel is the refusal of some residents to leave their homes.
01:27Around 1,000 PCG rescuers are currently deployed across different parts of the country.
01:32This is in preparation for the expected impact of typhoons Emong and Dante.
01:36The PCG remains on full alert.
01:38They have also deployed additional personnel to areas that will be directly hit by the typhoon.
01:42The Philippine National Police has also been relentless in conducting rescue operations in the areas devastated by consecutive calamities.
02:04In addition to rescue operations, the PCG and PNP are also assisting in the distribution of relief goods to affected residents.
