00:00Uber is rolling out a new feature aimed at rider safety, giving women the option to choose women drivers.
00:07The ride-hailing giant is piloting the program in select U.S. cities, including L.A., San Francisco, and Detroit, over the next few weeks.
00:15It's called Women Rider Preference, and it's designed to help prevent sexual assault on the platform.
00:21Female passengers will be able to request female drivers, and women drivers can also choose to pick up women riders,
00:27including during peak hours, like evenings.
00:30It's the first time Uber is offering this feature here in the U.S. after launching it in 40 other countries,
00:36where the company says feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
00:39But Uber isn't first. Lyft rolled out a similar option back in 2023,
00:44and smaller women-focused rideshare apps like HerRide and JustHerRideshare have been doing this for years.
