00:00Yeah, on the bump today for the Pittsburgh Pirates is Mitch Keller, 25-year-old right-hander.
00:06He's making his seventh start of the season and his 24th start of his career.
00:10He's 2-4 with a high area of 7.81, 27-2 innings pitched, 26 strikeouts.
00:18Pretty good in the strikeouts-innings-pitched ratio, but the walks are a little high.
00:22Left-handed batter's hitting .322, righties hitting .259.
00:26And then at .216, he's got four home runs and eight RBIs.
00:32Here's the pitch, and with Tauchman running, it's taken.
00:35Tauchman will make it in after the throw is a little bit late.
00:39The tag late, he slides in safely with a steal.
00:42Pitch was, I guess, called a strike.
00:44Maybe I just blinked.
00:46Didn't look like a strike to me, but it was called a strike by Corey Blazer.
00:50Tauchman steals his way into scoring position.
00:53Another element of Mike Tauchman's game.
00:57Buster, little dribbler, third base side.
00:59He may have himself a hit.
01:00He does.
01:02The magic one-do of Buster Posey, first and third.
01:05Well, most of his hits, I mentioned he's leading the club in hits with 31.
01:08Most of his hits have been hit pretty hard.
01:10That wasn't on the hard hit scale right there.
01:13The first and third one out for the Giants.
01:16In a scoreless game, Alex Dickerson comes up.
01:19And on the first pitch, a slow roller.
01:23They're going to try to turn two, and they won't.
01:25And the Giants lead 1-0.
01:27Man, Dickerson hit that so poorly that it stayed out of a double play.
01:32Giants get a run out of it.
01:33Posey forced out at second.
01:35Two down, but the Giants will take the run.
01:37It's 1-0.
01:38The pitch, and a breaking ball hit high and deep out to center field.
01:42Reynolds, just shy of the track, will bring it in.
01:44And the inning is through.
01:45Giants pick up a run on a walk and a hit, and a man left on.
01:49But through a half inning, San Francisco 1, and the Pirates coming up.
01:53Frazier's been a tough out for everybody this year,
01:56but especially in this series for the Giants.
01:59As he comes in hitting 318.
02:01Woods struck out 29 guys this year.
02:0324 have been with that slider.
02:07Darren Ruff all over the place in this series.
02:10One out.
02:11Newman hitting 2-0-9 with a home run.
02:13He's got eight driven in.
02:14If the leg comes home, inside, ball four.
02:17It's with a fastball, so the walk to Newman.
02:19It's a pirate aboard for Brian Reynolds.
02:25Reynolds coming in at 3-0-1 on base at 400.
02:32And he got him.
02:33Throw down to second is not in time.
02:35It'll be a strikeout and a stolen base.
02:39Well, good slider by Alex Wood down below the strike zone to Reynolds.
02:44Nice throw of a buster, but anticipating.
02:46Howell Kapler's going to talk about this.
02:48Buster thought he might have been interfered with.
02:51So you don't have to call the hitter out, although in this case he was out anyway,
02:55but you can say the hitter is entitled to finish his swing with a follow-through,
03:00but if in that natural motion he gets in the way of the catcher,
03:04you can force that runner to go back.
03:06Alex Wood making his first appearance against the Pirates since 2019.
03:10He's 3-3 in his career in 10 ballgames against Pittsburgh, a 3-0-9 lifetime ERA.
03:161-2, got him swinging, a slider, nasty down and in.
03:20Fourth strikeout for Alex Wood.
03:23One hit, one stranded.
03:25Top of the order coming up for the Giants.
03:26What a great season he's been having.
03:29Coming in third in the National League and batting average.
03:323-18 hitter leading the league in hits the pitch and a swing and a little pop back of second.
03:39That's down for his 50th hit of the season.
03:43And Frazier on pace for a 200 hit year here at the quarter point.
03:47You know, a great formula.
03:48He avoids strikeouts, gets the ball put in play,
03:51and, you know, because of that he's going to find a lot of holes and you can't defend him.
03:56You have to spread everybody out.
03:58You've got to create a lot of opportunities out there, a lot of holes for the balls to fall in.
04:032-2.
04:04Reynolds, check swing, roller to third.
04:06Coming in to scoop it up.
04:07Longoria throws off one foot to first in time.
04:10Nice play.
04:10There's the classic Longoria defense.
04:13That was well done.
04:14Here's the pitch.
04:16Crawford lines this one down the right field line, a fair ball.
04:18It goes into the corner where Stokes is going to dig it out.
04:22On the way to third is Longoria.
04:24Into second with a double is Crawford.
04:272-0 pitch, hunting dead red.
04:29Gets the pitch he wants, down and in, right where he likes it, spins on it.
04:34Another solid at-bap by Brandon Crawford.
04:37Oh, he went.
04:38He certainly did.
04:39In the dirt and the block by Stallings.
04:42Back-to-back strikeouts.
04:44And now you just got to get by the pitcher.
04:46This slider looks good, and again, the luxury of having Jacob Stallings behind home plate
04:51where you can bury that pitch and throw it down below the strike zone,
04:55and he keeps it in front of you.
04:560-2 on the pitcher wood.
04:59And the crowd starting to get into it with Keller.
05:030-2 pitch.
05:04He struck him out looking.
05:07A big league moment for Keller.
05:09How about Mitch Keller?
05:11He had second and third, and nobody out, and he strikes out three Giants in a row.
05:18Bases loaded, nobody out.
05:19Giants had second and third, nobody out, and Mitch Keller pitched through it.
05:23We'll see if Alex Wood can match that here.
05:26There's the pitch.
05:27And a swing and a soft fly ball.
05:29Deep enough, I think.
05:30Out to left of center.
05:32Talkman's got it.
05:33Here comes Stallings to the plate.
05:35He'll score.
05:36Tom gets the job done.
05:38A sacrifice fly, and the Pirates tie the game at one.
05:42Because Keller waits, and he bounces this one to Longoria.
05:46He's going to go to the bag as he steps on third, and that's going to end the inning.
05:49So the damage could have been worse.
05:52Bases loaded, nobody out.
05:53Pirates score one.
05:55So two balls, two strikes.
05:57The pitch.
05:58Swing and a high pop-up.
06:01Foul territory.
06:02Ruff, and it's Dubon who makes the running catch as he falls into that screen down the
06:08right field line, which protects everybody from foul balls, and it protected him from
06:14falling into the seats.
06:16So a terrific catch on a foul pop-up by Mauricio Dubon.
06:21Ruff was giving chase, but he had no chance.
06:24And then out of nowhere came Dubon.
06:26Keeps an eye on it.
06:27Catches it right in the heel of the glove.
06:29Puts that second hand over the top, which you're supposed to do.
06:33On second is Reynolds.
06:35It's two and two to Jacob Stallings.
06:38And the pitch.
06:39Swing and a miss.
06:40He struck him out, and that'll end the inning.
06:42So, with the help of the pick-off play, the Giants get through it without allowing a run.
06:49Giants have runners now at the corners with Mauricio Dubon at the plate.
06:54He's set up way outside.
06:55He shortens Dubon, and the pitch goes right by the catcher.
06:59Longoria will break for the plate, and the Giants go ahead.
07:03Man, I can't remember the last time I saw a catcher set up so far outside, and then
07:08Klay Holmes threw it even farther than that.
07:11Here's the 0-2.
07:12Swing and a line.
07:12Drive out the middle.
07:13It's through for a base head.
07:14Posey will stop at second.
07:15Not good seeing him limp down the steps.
07:18So, Michael Perez going to take over behind the plate.
07:22Giants really love to get an extra run.
07:25Their lead is just one, two to one.
07:28Yastrzemski drives one to deep right field.
07:31It is out of here.
07:34So, Mike Yastrzemski catches up to one.
07:38His fifth home run of the year.
07:39That was a bolt, and it gives the Giants some breathing room.
07:43Four to one here in the ninth inning.
07:44Man, is that good to see.
07:46We do know that it's one and two to Adam Frazier.
07:51And this is hit out into center field, and this should do it.
07:55And that's the ball game.
07:56So, the Giants end up winning another Sunday ball game.
