00:26The planet is called YZ Ceti B, and it's orbiting a tiny red dwarf star.
00:30But one of the most important things for a planet to harbor life is having a magnetosphere, or the magnetic field that prevents the atmosphere from getting stripped away into space,
00:38and maintains the barrier that prevents cosmic radiation from literally cooking everything on the planet.
00:43That's what experts believe happened to Mars when it lost its magnetic field, and why it's the way it is today.
00:48However, with regards to YZ Ceti B, while it does have a magnetic field and is rocky, unfortunately it's not in the Goldilocks zone.
00:55Or the area of habitability around a star.
00:58The planet is so close to its star, a year on it only lasts two days.
01:02And in fact, that's what experts believe is causing the signal being emitted by the planet.
01:06As it orbits closely, its own magnetic field is getting caught up in the plasma bursts from its host star, generating repeating signals in the form of radio waves.
