00:00Hey kids, today we're going on a journey under the sea to learn about one of my favorite animals, the octopus.
00:07The octopus lives under the ocean. It's most famous for having eight arms.
00:13Look at all those arms!
00:15There are more than 300 different types of octopus all over the world.
00:19Some live in shallow water like coral reefs and others live in the deepest parts of the ocean.
00:25Some octopuses are really small, the size of a ball.
00:29But the biggest octopus on earth is the giant Pacific octopus, which weighs more than 30 pounds and can stretch their arms 14 feet.
00:38That's really far.
00:40All octopuses are invertebrates, which means they have no skeleton.
00:45They can squeeze into all sorts of tight spaces.
00:49It's really sneaky.
00:51They also have three hearts and blue blood.
00:55Three hearts! They must love their hearts.
00:58Octopuses eat lots of different kinds of sea creatures, like crabs, shrimp, and other shellfish.
01:07But predators, like sharks, like to eat octopuses.
01:11So they have lots of strategies to defend themselves.
01:14Octopuses can camouflage themselves against rocks or corals.
01:18Camouflage means they turn different colors.
01:21That's wild! Can you spot the octopus?
01:28They can also spray a thick black ink to distract predators while they swim away.
01:34Ooh!
01:35And if that doesn't work, octopuses can leave one of their arms behind.
01:39They'll just grow it back! One of their arms!
01:42Octopuses are very smart and have excellent eyesight.
01:46They can see you coming from very far away.
01:51Octopuses may be smart and cool looking and have three hearts and eight arms, but they're also in danger.
01:57All around the world, they're losing the corals where they live because of climate change.
02:01Also, the ocean water where they live, it's getting polluted with all of our human trash.
02:07The best thing you can do to protect octopuses is for your family to use less plastic.
02:12Like plastic water bottles and plastic wrap and plastic containers so that octopuses have a safe place to live.
02:20We love octopuses.
02:22What's your favorite thing that octopuses can do?
02:25half of that?
02:40.
02:42.
02:44.
02:48.
02:52That's one of my favorite things.
