00:00At the weigh-in yesterday, we weren't sure this bout was going to go ahead.
00:11Wimetungi Jr. weighed in at 87.8 kilos.
00:15The limit was 85, so Waterman wasn't sure,
00:18but Wimetungi Jr. went away, shed the kilos required.
00:21The fight is on here.
00:24The first of eight three-minute rounds about to begin,
00:28and we're so delighted.
00:28This fight does go ahead, Danny.
00:30Don't blink at home.
00:31Viewers, this is going to be a cracker.
00:33I'm really excited about this fight.
00:35Clay Waterman, the Australian, in the black trunks against the Kiwi.
00:40Wimetungi Jr., who's spent plenty of time in Australia in recent years,
00:44and he's throwing the punches early here.
00:46The Kiwi.
00:47Wimetungi Jr.'s got super power.
00:50He's a very relaxed guy.
00:51You can see him very relaxed.
00:52Clay Waterman, he's got the weight.
00:54He's got the size.
00:55He's put on a fair bit of weight since the weigh-in,
00:56and credit to Clay Waterman for accepting the fight being,
00:59you know, out of weight, overweight, sorry.
01:04You can really see the size difference here after the weigh-in.
01:07Like, I think Wimetungi Jr. would be at least eight kilograms different.
01:10And his trainer, Hunter Ioane, posted on Instagram last night,
01:13showing them having that feast after finally reaching the weight required last night.
01:18So Waterman just trying to get on top of things here,
01:21but all the punches are being thrown by the man in the white and red trunks.
01:24Good job, my friend!
01:26Under the ropes goes Waterman.
01:28And the Queenslander, now he throws a left hook.
01:31And the response is swift from Wimetungi Jr.
01:34Oh, you can see Wimetungi Jr. is putting everything in those shots.
01:37Waterman's, you know, calculated.
01:39He's coming back with some nice shots of his own.
01:40Nice jabbing there inside.
01:42And he's, we all know that Waterman had that super fight with Paulo Acuso Jr.
01:48So Paulo Acuso in the last stand show, and, you know,
01:51he's really up against it because he's, this is how Wimetungi Jr.'s super powerful.
01:55It was a controversial decision there.
01:57Waterman thought they were in front, but they went down.
02:01Nice lead uppercut there by Clay Waterman,
02:03just picking over Wimetungi Jr. off.
02:05Some nice clean shots.
02:06I think that's the plan just to hang in there, chip away,
02:09and try and wear him down.
02:12No secret, Wimetungi Jr.'s going to try and do nice.
02:15Ball!
02:17The weapon felt that one, knocked off balance, Clay Waterman.
02:21Gets right back on the front foot, though.
02:24He's that strong, Wimetungi Jr. that Waterman hits him with the left rip,
02:27and he bounces back.
02:29Got the crowd on time with that walkout as well,
02:31to the Jimmy Barnes classic, working-class man in the high-vis,
02:35to Wimetungi Jr.
02:39Fantastic young blokes, these two.
02:42True gentlemen and a lot of respect for each other,
02:44but they're going to look to knock each other out.
02:47I'm not sure this is going to go eight rounds, Speedy.
02:49They've both got a knockout pedigree.
02:51Waterman's knocked out nine opponents in his 13 wins.
02:54Wimetungi Jr. has 11 KOs in 16 victories.
02:58Oh, that shot from Waterman, has his fans excited.
03:04Crisp right hand there to the temple.
03:06That was a really clean shot.
03:08Now the body shot's been landed in quick succession from the New Zealanders.
03:13He's got a good left-up cut there.
03:25Nice clean shots by Waterman.
03:27He's just got to get on that jab and just use his boxing skill.
03:29Again, nice one, two, three combo.
03:31The niche with the left hook.
03:33Solid round there, Speedy.
03:34I'm not sure who got it.
03:35It's a very close round.
03:37Waterman came back nicely then with some clean shots.
03:39That right hand might lean towards Clay Waterman,
03:42although Wimetungi Jr. was pressing the issue.
03:45Yeah, aggressive early.
03:47Of course, the judges have to find someone to give 10-9 to, don't they?
03:50Pretty much.
03:51They can give it a draw if it's really close.
03:52They generally will give it a draw.
03:54There's that left rip.
03:55Right hand counter by Wimetungi Jr.
03:58Caught him off balance and stayed him.
04:00Rushing right hand to the side of the face.
04:03He took that well because Clay can punch.
04:06Sonny Bill getting ready.
04:08What a great interview that was when the Green Machine stepped in
04:12and suddenly the strapping was going on a bit too tight from taps.
04:15Well, it's tough, you know, and, you know,
04:18gals in the same boat.
04:19But if your hands aren't strapped right and they're a bit tight
04:21and you've only got half a fight to go before you're out there,
04:23it's really, it plays on your mind.
04:26You've got to have everything on point before you get out for the fight.
04:29He took the earphones out for you, but how intense was Gal?
04:32Fox.
04:33He's pretty relaxed.
04:34Yeah.
04:34He's an intense character.
04:35He's pretty relaxed.
04:36Not as relaxed as Sonny.
04:38Come on, boys.
04:38Hand free work out of there.
04:39So the start of round number two.
04:40Scheduled to go eight rounds.
04:41Get your hand free work out of there.
04:42But Danny Green feels like this one might end early.
04:46Good shot.
04:47Good hooks inside by both five.
04:49He's trading heavy leather.
04:50Both prepared just to stay in the middle of the arena.
04:53You know what?
04:53It's an old saying, but we could put this fight in the phone box
04:56and they'd be fine.
04:58Waterman onto the ropes.
05:00And when Matangi loads up, combination thrown.
05:03And our referee, William Sulis, saw something he didn't like.
05:08Watch your heads in there, boys.
05:10Watch them.
05:10I think Clay Waterman's going to have the edge in energy and the engine.
05:15I think Iwamutangi Jr. might not be able to keep trading and throwing as many heavy shots
05:20at the entire aid range.
05:21Because Clay is battle proven for that distance.
05:23About three years ago, Iwamutangi lost focus.
05:27He weighed 115 kilos and his wife re-motivated him to get back in the ring.
05:33Boxes here at about 90 kgs after that feast last night.
05:36So he's got that power that comes from the higher weight divisions,
05:40which Waterman was understandably worried about.
05:42If he lands one, it's going to count.
05:44Yeah, definitely.
05:45But Clay's just finding his jab there, finding his range.
05:48You know, he's got his on.
05:49He's handling the power so far.
05:51He's seeing a lot of shots.
05:52He's catching a lot of the power.
05:53He just doesn't want to get caught trading.
05:55If he throws a left hook and a one attack, he throws a left hook at the same time and catches Clay,
05:59it's going to be dangerous.
06:01Oh, that's a nice quick combination.
06:03Lightning hands from Waterman.
06:05Getting some confidence going here.
06:08And that's the difference between these two fighters, is the speed.
06:11Nice left uppercut, bringing him onto a shot there.
06:13Beautiful shot by Clay Waterman.
06:14Break.
06:15Step back.
06:21The Queenslander and the Black Trunks against the New Zealander in the white and red trunks.
06:28But to see Clay use that jab, beautiful right hand.
06:30Oh, he stabbed him with a couple there.
06:32Waterman right on top all of a sudden.
06:34He wobbled at Wilma Tegui Jr. there.
06:36He's stung.
06:39From the Commonwealth Games, bronze medalist Clay Boardman for Australia.
06:43The Gold Coast Games in 2018.
06:45Into the pro race with an impressive record of 14 victories to defeat.
06:49Oh, they're really swinging here and neither could connect in that exchange.
06:53Four, five jabs in a row landed Klinny.
06:55I'd like to see Clay use his boxing ability more.
06:58He's boxing very nicely.
06:59You can see the difference.
07:00A bit of a thumbnail probably able to see the difference in class as far as boxing skill goes.
07:04Well, I'm a tag he's more of a, he's a heavy hitter and Clay's a boxer heavy hitter.
07:09He needs to get in the box and combine that with his heavy shots.
07:16And the uppercut from Waterman landed.
07:22And the tongue has been stunned by some of these shots from the Aussie.
07:25A clear winner in that round.
07:35High to edge, Clay Wardman in that round for sure.
07:38He just threw the cleaner shots.
07:39He landed four or five jabs in a row.
07:42He's got Mark and Ty Waterman in his corner along with Stephen Edwards.
07:46A real family affair for the 29-year-old Queenslander.
07:49And continuing tonight's rugby league theme is the cousin of Jesse and Kenny Bromwich.
07:54Nice uppercutting there by Waterman.
07:57Left rip landed.
08:03We had Mundine earlier on the card.
08:06A third generation boxer.
08:07Waterman's a fifth generation boxer with Aboriginal, Maori and European heritage.
08:12He's been there.
08:15Trust me.
08:18He's done there.
08:19He's standing there and doing what he's doing right now.
08:21Seat breath.
08:22One more.
08:24So our stats are saying that Awima Tungi Jr. has landed one more punch so far.
08:32Wait, wait, wait.
08:32He may have landed more, but the cleaner heavier shots have gone to Clay Ward.
08:35Box.
08:37Start of round number three.
08:39Maximum of eight rounds in this one.
08:41Hands free, boys.
08:42Hands free.
08:42In between rounds, we had Black Sabbath banging out.
08:45Iron Man.
08:45And these both, both these blokes' chins are made of iron.
08:48And they're going to need to be.
08:50DJ's been in fine form today.
08:53That one landed on the nose of Awima Tungi Jr.
08:55Cops another one.
08:56Another head shot from Waterman.
08:57Oh, nice counter punch over the jab with the right hand and left hook combo.
09:02Again, another one-two combo by Clay Wardman.
09:05It's kind of showing his edge and skill and class here.
09:08Awima Tungi goes down low, covering up his Waterman on the ropes in some kind of distress right now.
09:14And here comes another warning about the low shots.
09:20Nice left grip there by Clay Wardman.
09:22Watch if he gets on the jab and just gets back off and steps back and gives himself a bit more room.
09:27He's going to be able to pick off his opponent much cleaner and take himself out of danger.
09:31He's won the Australian Light Heavyweight Championship before.
09:35Clay Wardman showing his pedigree here.
09:37Trying to get on top of Awima Tungi Jr.
09:39He's had his history of success.
09:43Two-time middleweight champion of New Zealand.
09:46Very evenly matched fight here.
09:48Brendan Burke, the matchmaker for this event.
09:50Fantastic job matching some really good fights.
09:53Hope you're enjoying it on stand, pay for view tonight.
09:56Not far away from the main event.
09:58Has that one missed over the top from Waterman?
10:00Both guys trading.
10:01Big left hook just pulling off it and missing.
10:04Just whistling past their whiskers.
10:07Get back on that jab, Clay Wardman.
10:10You've got the jab, you've got the skill.
10:14But he's a fighter, mate, and he wants to get in there and get down and dirty with Awima Tug.
10:18Break!
10:19Lean on him, Mossi.
10:19Step back.
10:22You can hear Mossi's corner saying, lean on him.
10:24Try and take his energy.
10:25Try and wear him out with your size and your weight difference.
10:30He's finding a way through Waterman, isn't he?
10:32Get sick, keep your head off the center line.
10:36Good, good.
10:38Make the mess.
10:39Ken leading with that left.
10:40Awima Tuggy Jr. finds a way through all of a sudden.
10:44Here you go.
10:45Don't hold in there, Clay.
10:46Come on, hands free and punch.
10:48Awima Tuggy Jr. trying to hold on.
10:49He wasn't having that.
10:50Awima Tuggy Jr. having a great period here.
10:53Digging hard to the body there.
10:55Beautiful shots by Awima Tuggy Jr.
10:57Just dipping down there.
10:57Trying to grab nothing.
10:58He did.
10:59He dipped down.
11:00He threw a little one-two over the top and caught Clay Waterman.
11:03Break!
11:03Cheeky.
11:03Off balance there, Waterman, as he locks up again.
11:07Oh.
11:08Dropped his gloves there.
11:10Wee-Metonghi playing with fire against Waterman's pedigree.
11:15You can see that nice fundamental skill inside there.
11:17That abrasive skill from Clay Waterman.
11:19Just sitting in the pocket, missing heavy punches.
11:21Just missing him by an inch.
11:23Ten seconds, boys.
11:23He's got that confidence now.
11:25Nice jab there.
11:26Closing seconds of round number three.
11:29Nice work by Clay Waterman off the ropes.
11:31Beautiful boxing.
11:32Big long left lever with a left hook to finish a round.
11:35Another round to Clay Waterman.
11:37Didn't want that one to come to an end.
11:40No, it was a sensational round.
11:43All right, Ziggy, who's ready for our main event of the evening?
11:46Sonny Bill Williams and Taps going through their game.
11:51Game plan, how to take down Paul Gallen.
11:53It's all coming up very soon on Stan Pay Per View.
11:57Stadium starting to swell.
11:59Starting to get that big fight feel to it.
12:01And this is setting the tone for the undercard semi-main event.
12:05These boys are not disappointing.
12:07Wetting the appetite for this big crowd here coming to see the big boys throwdown.
12:10And Gallen in the sky blue trunks, the former captain of New South Wales, a state of origin level,
12:18took on Sonny Bill in a World Cup final.
12:212013, Australian, New Zealand.
12:22He said, Sonny, can I have your jumper?
12:24Had the nice exchange afterwards.
12:26We only got it for his roosters mad mate.
12:29It's 2025.
12:30Who said this has been going for a decade?
12:32It's been going for 12 years.
12:33Round number four here in the semi-main event.
12:39Clay Waterman, black trunks.
12:41Catching him on the inside there.
12:42Coming in, catching him with the jab there.
12:44Clay Waterman's boxing skill.
12:45Beautiful right hand at the top there.
12:46Koi to Womitake.
12:47He's moving.
12:48Not the senior.
12:50Body shots.
12:51And landed by the Kiwi.
12:52You can see now, Speedy, that Clay's starting to find his range, find he's got the rhythm
12:59of Womitake Jr.
13:00He's wearing some heavy shots, but he's found his rhythm, found his distance.
13:03He's got his eye on his style.
13:05He's starting to peppering.
13:07But you can never count this Womitake Jr. out.
13:09He's got serious power.
13:11Ian Moss, a play on the nickname of Mike Tyson.
13:15And then you've got the weapon representing Australia here, the Queenslander.
13:19Clay Waterman.
13:20Comfortable on the ropes, isn't he?
13:22Almost inviting Womitake over to him.
13:25Break.
13:26It's the last place you'd encourage a fighter to be against Mosse Amataghi Jr.
13:31on the ropes, but Clay's very comfortable.
13:32He's experienced there, and he knows what to do.
13:34It's his boxing pedigree that's going to allow him to stay there
13:36and pick him off as he comes in.
13:39Stop, stop, stop.
13:40Bit low there.
13:41Another warning from the referee.
13:42I know it's not deliberate, but it's the third time.
13:46Straight there again, I'm going to have to take a point.
13:48You understand me?
13:49Okay, let's go.
13:50Last warning for the New Zealander.
13:54Good referee there.
13:55He realises it's unintentional, giving him one more chance.
13:58Beautiful.
13:58That's what I want.
14:00Slick boxing there by Clay Waterman.
14:02Showing his skill there.
14:03Fantastic amateur pedigree he had.
14:04At the age of just 15, he went to Kazakhstan, brought back the world title in the pin weight division.
14:1246 kilograms it was back then.
14:15Good left hook inside there.
14:16And that's a fantastic achievement, it's been, for a young man to go over to Kazakhstan
14:20and fight those calibre of fighters at such a young age and be victorious.
14:24First Australian to do it, was Clem Waterman.
14:27Still a minute to go here in round number four.
14:29Awimatangi Jr. trying to find a way through this defence of Waterman.
14:34Really nice boxing here by Clay Waterman.
14:37Just picking him up, bobbing, weaving.
14:39He looks a little bit like Mike Tyson on the ropes here.
14:42Bobbing from side to side, catching some big...
14:44That took some encounter punch in there.
14:45And this...
14:46Awimatangi Jr. landed a couple.
14:48Waterman hits back.
14:49What about this viewing on Stan Page of View up close and personal
14:52with these two fighters as they go at it?
14:56I reckon the people at home on the couch might be bobbing and weaving themselves,
14:59ducking for cover.
15:01Great action here by the cameraman for Stan.
15:04Awimatangi Jr. not backing off.
15:06He's seen an opportunity.
15:08Waterman gets off the ropes, finally.
15:10After copying his fair share of punishment there now to centre ring
15:13and the head rocks back on Waterman.
15:16So Clay's looking a bit wary now.
15:17It's not even halfway through the fight speed.
15:19It's been incredible action so far.
15:23We heard a sneaky tip from Jeff Fenwick that this could be the fight of the night
15:27and delivering so far.
15:32Oh, big left hook just missed to the end of the round.
15:36Another round to Clay Waterman.
15:40Yet to lose one for you.
15:42The first round was maybe either way, but Waterman on top here.
15:47I think so.
15:48I think he could have given him a draw, but the rest has been Clay Waterman.
15:50He's three rounds up in my eyes.
15:52As a junior, back to that pedigree, winning that world championship,
15:55he won 64 straight fights at amateur level over seven years.
15:59That's an incredible record.
16:00That's a purple patch if I've ever seen one.
16:04And he would have been fighting very good fighters at his level.
16:09Wade Cooper.
16:11Great mates with Sonny Bill Williams.
16:14Keeping an eye on Sonny as he goes through these final preparations.
16:17Geez, I'm really, really excited about this fight.
16:25I really am.
16:25I can't wait to see who's going to win.
16:27What about the way in yesterday?
16:28Gale's 43.
16:29Sonny's nudging 40.
16:30How fit and stripped are they?
16:32More fat than the chips, Beattie.
16:33They both looked in impeccable condition.
16:35Now, number five.
16:42Dean Waterman heading towards those ropes.
16:45And Matangi Jr. closes in.
16:48And the leather flies.
16:50Clay's comfortable going back to the ropes there
16:52because he can't keep Matangi Jr. off out wide
16:55because he's so strong as a bull.
16:56So if he can go back on the ropes,
16:58he can actually get his distance.
16:59Because the one Matangi Jr. comes in close
17:01and it kind of plays into Clay's hands.
17:03He's happy.
17:04He's comfortable at that distance.
17:06There he goes.
17:06Lead left hook.
17:07What him coming in and missed about 67 punches?
17:12Break!
17:13Break!
17:15Step back.
17:16Hold him that way.
17:20Nice one.
17:21Too hooked there by Clay.
17:23Come on, head straight.
17:24Punch out.
17:26I'm not seeing many telling punches from Matangi Jr.
17:29All of the good stuff is from Waterman.
17:31Yeah, correct, Beattie.
17:32I just think that's going to be the most similar to...
17:35I mean, it's a tougher pace than what the last fight was.
17:37But similar to Chris Terziensky in the last fight, Clay's found a rhythm.
17:41He's found a rhythm.
17:42He's very tired because he's working very hard because this beast is just on him like a bull.
17:46And they're telling Boz that he's landing there, but he's just not landing the clean headshots.
17:50And Clay is landing a lot more clean headshots.
17:53Looking for an uppercut or two as well as Tawima Tungy then goes to the body of Waterman.
18:03See what Matangi Jr. is just leaning on Clay Waterman, trying to wear him out, trying to take that vitality away.
18:09Come on, hands straight, hands straight, punch out.
18:16Referee hates seeing that.
18:17Locking up.
18:18Will Sulis right on top of it.
18:21I'd like to see these guys box.
18:24We're all thankful for that.
18:25They're putting on a show again.
18:27Undercard has been magnificent tonight.
18:29Fantastic, and this is fantastic what Stan Sporter doing for the Sporter Boxing.
18:33They want to stamp their authority and make their mark on the Sporter.
18:36This is a fantastic way to get out of it, guys.
18:38Don't hold.
18:40Oh, great combination from Waterman.
18:43Oh, you see Matangi Jr. can open his jaw up and go,
18:46oh, that stung a bit.
18:47Let's keep going, boys.
18:49He's a tough guy.
18:49He just got clubbed in the face with a saucepan.
18:54Here comes the left hook by Clay Waterman.
18:57Just teeing it off, lying it up.
18:59Come on, back to your body.
19:02Break.
19:05Final 30 seconds of round number five.
19:12Waterman doesn't want to leave it to the judges
19:14after what happened in the Acuso fight
19:16went last year when he went down.
19:22That was a very, very entertaining fight, man.
19:24I was lucky enough to sit ringside for that one,
19:26and again, it was an outstanding performance by Clay.
19:28It could have gone either way, that fight.
19:30Very, very, very tough fight.
19:31It was for the Australasia light heavyweight title in Penrith last November,
19:36and Waterman putting on a clinic similar to that of Terzievsky in the previous fight.
19:42Does he win that round as well?
19:43He landed the cleaner shots.
19:46Yeah, he did land the cleaner shots, although Awamitake Jr. pressed a bit more of that fight,
19:50but he just landed the cleaner shots.
19:51Awamitake Jr. is having trouble finding a home for clean shots that the judges can go,
19:57OK, I can give you that round.
19:59He's doing a lot of work.
20:00He's working really hard.
20:02He's having some good success to the body.
20:04This guy's dangerous, though, and landed nearly 100 punches compared to Waterman,
20:09according to the official stats in this one.
20:11But he went to Cardiff in 2018.
20:13He fought on the undercard of Anthony Joshua Joseph Parker.
20:17He took on the undefeated Britt Morgan Jones.
20:20He was absolutely outboxed in the sixth and final round with eight seconds left.
20:24Knockout blow landed by Awamitake Jr.
20:26That's the danger for Waterman.
20:28That's why you can never count this man out.
20:30He is an excitement machine at any stage to fight.
20:33Remains the highlight of his pro career.
20:35Seven years ago now for Awamitake Jr.
20:40They square off in sitting there, boys.
20:43A bit of holding going on on the blind side of the referee.
20:46Now they go at it.
20:50Also, when Clay Waterman lands a shot, Awamitake Jr.'s hair flies everywhere.
20:55He might want to get a haircut.
20:57A little buzz cut recorder to the Kiwi.
20:59Yeah, because when the hair flies around, the judges see it,
21:01and they go, he's landed another one.
21:05Hands free.
21:07Break!
21:08Break!
21:09Like a bull.
21:09Step back.
21:10Just charging into Waterman, sending him onto the ropes.
21:13Referee wants to get on top of that situation as well.
21:16Uppercut just missed from Waterman.
21:18Yeah.
21:18That was a heavy shot.
21:19Good angle on that one, didn't we?
21:20Punch out.
21:21Inside, just down.
21:22Nice!
21:23Nice!
21:23Nice!
21:24Nice!
21:24Nice!
21:25Nice!
21:25Nice!
21:26Nice!
21:26Nice!
21:27Nice!
21:27Nice!
21:28Nice!
21:28Nice!
21:29Nice!
21:29Nice!
21:30Nice!
21:30Nice!
21:31Nice!
21:31Nice!
21:32Nice!
21:32Nice!
21:33Nice!
21:33Nice!
21:34Nice!
21:34Nice!
21:35Tony Jr. is back to the ropes.
21:36Norma, it's Clay that's going back to the ropes, and now Clay's going to work.
21:43Oh, nice one-two-hooked there.
21:47Give yourself room is the cry from the Waterman corner.
21:50And then go at it.
21:51Hand free!
21:52Hand free!
21:52Punch out.
21:52How easy is that to do when you've got a bloke coming the other way?
21:56It's very difficult and his corner is spot on. He does need to give himself a bit more.
22:00He's having good success in the middle distance.
22:02Out wide, not so much. Out wide, he's been jabbing his head off.
22:06In the middle distance, that's where Wamutagi Jr. can be a bit more dangerous.
22:10Good shot from Waterman, but so sturdy on his feet of Wamutagi Jr.
22:14Despite the pace.
22:15And that's that distance we were just talking about.
22:18It enabled him to land that big pointy hook combo.
22:28He's got a good shin, Wamutagi Jr.
22:31Comps another couple of shots to the melon from Waterman.
22:35Big uppercut from Clay.
22:36Wamutagi Jr. tries to fight back, but again Waterman landing the telling blows here.
22:41He did land a bit of left rip there that Clay didn't even react to.
22:44It was a very nice shot by Wamutagi Jr.
22:46But Clay didn't have the better combinations.
22:50See there, hit, not get hit.
22:52That's the sport of boxing.
22:54He just went pop-pop, rolled under one, caught one.
22:56That's what the sport's about.
22:58It's being hit and not get hit.
23:00Back to the body.
23:02He's covering up here, Uwe Mutangi Jr.
23:06And there's a different look about him right now.
23:08Right.
23:10Step back.
23:12All those highlights leading into this bout when he was knocked out by Jerome Pampalone after just 74 seconds.
23:24When he fought for the Australasian light heavyweight title.
23:26He's got a similar look about him right now.
23:28And he knows he needs to land one of these haymakers.
23:30Step back.
23:32Bell sounds.
23:34Another round down.
23:36Who wins it, Danny, that one?
23:38Look, mate, it's difficult to say commentating and not sitting there just solely judging.
23:42But if you look at the highlights, they're all pretty much towards Claywater.
23:46We're watching a lot of Claywater and highlights in between rounds.
23:50And that's where the money shots have been so far.
23:53And even so, that stat we saw before when the majority of punches have been landed by Uwe Mutangi Jr.
23:59It's not about landing punches.
24:01It's the quality of them.
24:03As you saw there, magic trading over the other side of the ring there.
24:06Both boys there trading some magic shots and some fantastic vision once again for the stand crew.
24:11It's just spot on speedy.
24:12There you go again.
24:13He's landed at 114 to 88.
24:16But the highlights have majorly been skewed towards Baywater.
24:21He's got a 13-2 record.
24:25Nine wins by knockout.
24:27The 29-year-old Queenslander, born in Beaudesert, grew up in Logan.
24:33Head-to-head with the kid from South Auckland.
24:38Oh, he's going to club over the right hand there to start the round there from Uwe Mutangi Jr.
24:46He's really going to want to win these last two rounds, Speedy.
24:50He's got a good look at how marked up the eye region of Uwe Mutangi Jr. is right now.
24:56Oh, loving overhand right there by Uwe Mutangi Jr.
25:08He's going to keep these boxes apart.
25:10And Waterman.
25:11Oh, nice defence there.
25:13Nice defence and movement by Uwe Mutangi Jr.
25:16Slipping, catching, parrying.
25:18Missed about 20 punches.
25:19Beautiful work.
25:20Digging into those energy reserves in round number seven for New Zealander.
25:25Hands are low, ducking and diving.
25:30And just giving a few body shots to go on with as they lock up again.
25:42Big punches being thrown by both men.
25:44Waterman firing through.
25:45Diving and weaving of Uwe Mutangi Jr.
25:49Magic.
25:50Beautiful to watch.
25:52Beautiful to watch, young man.
25:54Just like to see your hands up and taking less shots.
25:57Nice one too there.
25:58Just pepping him.
25:59Pa-pa.
26:00Nice work there.
26:01Step back.
26:03Midway through round number seven.
26:05Crisp left hook.
26:10Nice shot from the key.
26:15The punches that he missed, they take your energy.
26:19If you miss punches like he did.
26:22Missed that one too.
26:23Missing those punches absolutely zaps your energy.
26:26So it was nice work by myself.
26:28But he's got to capitalise.
26:29He's got to land some heavier clean shots.
26:31There you go.
26:32Again Clay catches him with that jab.
26:38Some blood starting to come from the nostril of Uwe Mutangi Jr.
26:45And these shots from Waterman beginning to take their toll.
26:51Break.
26:52He looks the fresher in the face as the Queensland.
26:55He does, mate.
26:56He does.
26:57Oh, loving left hook by Clay.
27:01Here we go, Sydney.
27:0230 seconds remaining.
27:03And he has settled down.
27:08I know the stats are leaning towards Mosse, but Clay's just doing the better work.
27:14Break, fellas.
27:16Step back.
27:17Just over ten seconds remaining in the round.
27:21Then there'll be one more to go.
27:23That's far away from the main event.
27:25Sunny Bill against the G-tron.
27:26Let's go.
27:27Beautiful, Mosse.
27:28Let's go.
27:29Beautiful, Mosse.
27:30Let's go.
27:31Bell about to read.
27:33And we get to the end of the seventh round.
27:37Round could have gone to Mosse.
27:39Okay.
27:40Could almost give that to Mosse.
27:41It's much closer round, but let's see the highlights.
27:44There's a big club in right hand there.
27:47That's the hair situation you were talking about.
27:49Yeah.
27:50Yeah.
27:51Look at that, like the Matrix.
27:55Absolutely.
27:56Keanu Reeves style.
27:58Mosse Matrix Sawamatagi Jr.
28:00New nickname, sir.
28:03Didn't miss that one, though.
28:05Clay's turn to miss it.
28:08Great action here from the stand replay.
28:14Gives people a...
28:15When they see it live, it doesn't look as damaging, as devastating.
28:18When you see it slow motion, you see the body rattle, the hair fly around, the sweat come off.
28:23It just gives it so much more impact when you see those replays.
28:27When Mottongi Jr. has to turn back the clock to what he did in Cardiff all those years ago,
28:31he needs to knock out.
28:32Absolutely.
28:33That's how I see it anyway.
28:36And he's aggressive.
28:38He must have heard you.
28:40Swinging his fair share of punches in the opening five seconds of the round.
28:44Yeah, the big bull came out of the gate hard.
28:47And Waterman can't afford to just think he's in front on the judges' scorecards,
28:52like he might have done against Akuso last time out.
28:55Get that head off the center line.
28:57You're doing beautiful.
28:58Clay's just trying to loosen up.
28:59Getting that jab.
29:01Work on, man.
29:02Push him on the ropes.
29:03Lead over.
29:04Break.
29:05Break.
29:06Step back.
29:07Beautiful.
29:08You're holding on in there, Clay.
29:09You can hear the corner of Mottongi Jr. saying,
29:11push him onto the ropes.
29:12Then go to work.
29:14He really does need a devastating round.
29:16He's got a drop player.
29:17I want him to be in with a chance.
29:19I've got him.
29:20Good count left hook there.
29:22Just swung off his own left hook and threw one back and clubbed him.
29:26Break.
29:27Step back.
29:28That blood continues to come from the nostril.
29:30And Mottongi Jr., the right nostril.
29:33He's spotted someone in the crowd who won Mottongi Jr.
29:35He's staring at him.
29:36Step back.
29:37There are celebrities in the house.
29:39He might have seen his favorite football.
29:40Don't take your eyes off the prize, Big Rick.
29:42Come on, hands free.
29:43Punch out of there.
29:44Nothing Flash in Auckland.
29:45Get him free.
29:46Did Mottongi Jr.
29:47Crying out.
29:48Break.
29:49Uppercut thrown by Mottongi Jr. that excited his corner.
29:59Stop wrestling.
30:00Stop wrestling is the cry from the referee.
30:03Come on, throw punches.
30:05Throw punches and Mottongi Jr. needs to do that.
30:08And Gorderman goes onto the ropes.
30:10Step back.
30:11Time to break these boys up.
30:1330 seconds to go.
30:14Lead left hook there.
30:15Nice crisp shot.
30:16Catching Mottongi and a lean.
30:18And a lean into Waterman and then throw the body shots.
30:25So Mottongi Jr. needs to go towards the head at some stage
30:29and look for the money shot.
30:30Oh, bringing that right hand over.
30:35Mottongi is not going to get in without a battle.
30:38Landed some nice clean shots there.
30:40Just less than a minute to go, Speedy.
30:42This has been action.
30:43Proud.
30:44Paying tribute to these fighters.
30:46Getting right behind them in the final minute of this eight-round bout.
30:50Another lead left from Waterman might have done some damage there at the head.
30:54Rock back again.
30:55Step back.
30:56Step back.
30:57Good, Mottongi.
30:58Good, Mottongi.
30:59Good, Mottongi.
31:00Good, Mottongi.
31:01Good, Mottongi.
31:02Good defense.
31:03He's done some great ducking and diving away, Mottongi Jr.
31:05But he needs to find a killer blow here.
31:08They're just sitting on a jab for 10, 15 seconds.
31:11Give himself some respite.
31:12Give himself some air.
31:13Get some oxygen.
31:14Recharge the batteries and finish strong for the last 15 seconds.
31:17Mottongi Jr.
31:18That's a good shot for you.
31:19Mottongi Jr.
31:20That's a good shot for you.
31:21Mottongi Jr.
31:22And Mottongi Jr.
31:23Just landed a nice right hand there.
31:24Listen to the bell.
31:25Mottongi Jr.
31:26Might be shouting this final round.
31:27Oh, big shots.
31:28Being thrown by Iron Moss.
31:31and Waterman keeps on his feet, great battle, total respect between the two
31:37fighters. Fantastic bout, I think Mosse might have been looking at one of his
31:41family members in the crowd, might have spotted his his wife and kids because he
31:44was fixated on them the last half of the last round. And that's why he does this
31:49for his family being lifted into the air by his trainer Hunter Ioane, they think
31:54they've done enough to win the fight with all of those punches landed
31:58superior in numbers to Clay Waterman but the quality of the Australian has Danny
32:02Green thinking he's on top. Good man, the way I saw that fight and it's as I said
32:07it's difficult when you're commentating you're right here you're not really
32:10scoring I'm just watching the action I just leaned towards Clay Waterman I think
32:13he landed the cleaner combination shots and he landed better cleaner shots.
32:19So Mosse and Wimitangi Jr. being congratulated for the showing he just put in.
32:28And there he's looking at his boy in the crowd.
32:32That's who he was fixated on for the last two minutes of that round, once he saw his
32:38boy he just laser focused in and that's beautiful.
32:41Young daughter as well, wife Eleanor here ringside too.
32:46Whatever happens his son would be very proud of his father, fought like a warrior.
32:52And credit to him, I mentioned 115 kilos he blew out to, he was lacking motivation, it was his wife who said
33:01get back in the ring, rededicate yourself to boxing and here he is on this stage under the bright lights of Kudos
33:07putting on a show and will he be rewarded with the result? It's in the hands of the judges here.
33:12I watched Mosse fight about three or four years ago up near the service paradise
33:17in New South Wales.
33:19And just so impressed with the bloke as a fighter but as a human being, outstanding bloke.
33:2530 years of age now.
33:27Now, William Matangi Junior, the father of two, his 23rd professional fight tonight.
33:33He's got 16 wins, can he add to it here?
33:35No KOs between these two that has been the dominant method of victory throughout their careers but they met
33:42well-matched opponents tonight.
33:44Yes, and you know, the undercard is complete, a fantastic undercard, so much action, some future stars of the sport.
33:54And now we're just about to tee off on the main event. This is getting very exciting, Speedy.
34:00Six fights on the undercard.
34:03And there's that respect that's been the theme of the week, starting at the press conference on Monday
34:08at the Channel 9 studios. Continued at the weigh-in yesterday and we wait to see what the judges have come up with here.
34:15Again, I'm going to pay credit to Clay Waterman for accepting this fight because Mosse was quite a bit overweight
34:19and as you could see, the weight difference was pretty significant.
34:24Steve Payos has just been handed the judges' verdict here.
34:28Ladies and gentlemen, let's have a round of applause please for both of our boxers' magnificent eight rounds of action
34:33semi-main event of the evening.
34:39After eight rounds, we go to the judges' scorecards for the decision.
34:43Judge Les Fear scores the bout 78-74.
34:46Judge Jonathan Knight scores the bout 77-75.
34:51Judge Andrew Lazic scores the bout 78-74.
34:55All three judges have this as a unanimous points-decision victory
34:59and it goes in favour of your winner...
35:03Blue corner, Clay Waterman!
35:18What a fight, we've just witnessed our penultimate bout of the evening and the victory...
