Activists rally against oil drilling in the Amazon ahead of COP30 in Brazil
Environmental activists gathered in northern Brazil on July 23, 2025 to protest Amazon oil exploration and demand greater indigenous representation at next year's COP30 climate summit. Demonstrators in Belem, Para, carried banners reading 'The Answer Is Us' as they called for greater inclusion of indigenous and local communities at the upcoming COP30 UN climate summit. Leaders from the Landless Workers' Movement (MST) and the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB) specifically demanded an end to Amazon oil drilling and formal recognition of traditional territories.
