Surface Contemporary Interiors gallery set to open in Hastings, East Sussex

The gallery is due to open on July 30 2025.

00:00i've been doing interior design for a while really working in mexico quite a lot and um

00:08i moved here about two and a half years ago and i did a couple of pop-up stores

00:13doing interiors so the similar kind of idea with paintings and ceramics um etc and met a lot of

00:20people and had a good reaction and um i just thought i would um try and find a more permanent

00:27space and um this is the space that i found which is um three claremont it's going to be a contemporary

00:35gallery space and i'm focusing mainly on paintings ceramics and um textiles and furniture um most of

00:45the furniture is coming from italy um and the paintings are coming from mexico and bali so

00:53those are the kinds of places that i travel to but i'm also working with some um local uh makers um

01:01catalan philippe who um works with mellow clay and makes contemporary lighting and um ruth knight who

01:10is a brighton-based ceramicist and um a couple of other uh local people um so i will have their work

01:20which gives them a bit of a platform to showcase what they're doing which is normally they will do

01:27it through fairs but it gives them a bit of a more of a permanent platform most of the work on the

01:32project has been completed and today the electricians are in um hanging some modern chandeliers and um

01:41over the weekend this coming weekend we're planning to um come in and dress and um start preparing the

01:50store and then the furniture deliveries happen on monday and um there's some cecil carpet being fitted

01:58on tuesday and fingers crossed the opening will be on wednesday
