Another widescreen reformatting of a Graeme Murphy contemporary dance piece - a favourite for its purity of choreography, dance and music. Originaly created in 1987 for the Nederlands Dans Theater in The Hague, Murphy’s SONG of the NIGHT is a stunning non-narrative work based on the music of composer Karol Szymanowski Symphony No 3, Song of the Night. Sydney Dance Company premiered it at the Sydney Opera House, on April 7, 1989.
Trivia: you can somehow hear the crackling of the record in the low parts of the music (yes, SDC used records at the time). But we love hearing the footsteps throughout, really helps the whole of the performance, almost like a constant breath. #graememurphy #contemporarydance #australiadance
