00:00Why don't we start with the Bengals. Of course, Trey Hendrickson has wanted a new deal the entire
00:05offseason. He's been the guy on the Bengals last year. Of course, it was Jamar and it was
00:10Tee Higgins. This year, it is Trey Hendrickson. He will not be reporting today. He has already
00:16Instagrammed a photo of himself in Florida, so he is nowhere near the city of Cincinnati to start
00:22training camp. Let's hear from Bengals owner Mike Brown, who usually only talks to the media like
00:27once a year. It's a year when training camp opens and see what he has to say. Here he is,
00:32says he hopes that they'll find a deal with Hendrickson. It has been a long negotiation.
00:39Trey Hendrickson is a fine player. He's a good guy. We want him here. Dealing with him is sometimes
00:47not so easy. That's all right. He's got the right to argue his case. We'll try to
00:56make sense of it from our perspective. And we'll see. I'm not persuaded that it isn't going to
01:07get done. As far as I'm concerned, the sooner the better. Do you think Trey deserves a raise?
01:14We offered him one. But keep in mind, Trey signed for this season.
01:23But foolishly, maybe we offered him one. But a raise. But anyway, he deserves a raise.
01:31He did well. And he played effectively. He's important to us.
01:37You know, I think that at some level, it gets so stale watching these negotiations play out on
01:46television and radio and shows like this, where every year it's the same story. It's just different
01:53guys. It's just always the same thing. It just never ends. This has been going on. I remember when I
02:00started covering the NFL and I, you know, worked with the Steelers and I traveled with the Steelers
02:08and I covered them every day of my life for three years, right? And every single player that, you know,
02:14was drafted or that played for the Steelers the whole time I was there, every single player had a
02:21negotiation problem. I mean, that's the league is, you know, built on it. It's predicated that every guy
02:28is eventually going to have a deal run out. And they're either going to get a new deal or they
02:32aren't. And then what they do is they bring their, you know, problem, their negotiations to the public
02:40and they turn it into a show. And it's no different than, you know, bringing trials to the public.
02:50Uh, that's what they do with everything, right? So that the public opinion can sway a jury or a judge
02:58or the media can, uh, change the narrative about anything. They've been talking about this Trey
03:04Hendrickson deal for six months. Every day we've heard about this guy for six months. Like he was
03:10the end all to the NFL. I mean, honestly, we have been talking about this guy not having a deal
03:14since the season ended and you remember it, Mike, it's been going on every day ever since. And this
03:23is exactly the way Mike Brown does business. I mean, this guy is as cheap as they come. And I won't
03:31deny he gave chase and Higgins and burrow tons of money. I don't know where the rest of the money's
03:39coming from. Like he gave those three players more money than God. And now they got to pay this guy
03:48more money than God. And literally there's nothing left for anybody else. This is the same halves and
03:52have nots that, uh, Mike, of course he was talking about in, in baseball, a couple of guys make all
03:58the money and everybody else makes 700 grand. Well, here's another one for you from Mike, because
04:04here's his other problem. He's got the only unsigned first round pick in the draft, the 17th
04:11overall leader, Shamar Stewart, of course, past rusher from Texas A&M. He hadn't been around,
04:18uh, since just after they drafted him. That's because the Bengals, I guess, tried to put in his
04:23contract some language that states they can void the guaranteed years in his deal. If he got into any
04:29kind of trouble, uh, here's Mike Brown, he called it foolishness, uh, and why this guy's not signed
04:35yet. Does this one feel unique? This one is surprising. Uh, I hesitate to get into the detail,
04:45but basically it turns on whether out years are guaranteed if he, uh, gets involved in conduct
04:56detrimental to football. Well, what does that mean? Uh, detrimental to football in recent years has
05:03been, uh, violence to women. Uh, uh, that's about the one that comes to mind. There are others
05:12probably, but that's the one that I think of. Well, if we get a player who gets involved in something
05:18like that or does something that is just unacceptable, guess what? I don't want to pay him. I really
05:25don't. If he's sitting in jail, I don't think I ought to be paying him.
05:32That was the greatest thing I've ever heard by an owner. That was great. Save that clip, Luke.
05:40If a guy's in jail, I don't want to pay him.
