00:01Washington Black is about a boy traveling the globe in his search for freedom.
00:07This job has been so insane in terms of like the places we've got to go to, the people we've got to be with.
00:15It felt like traveling the world in 106 days.
00:20Canada, Mexico, the Solomon Islands, Barbados was just extraordinary.
00:26The island of Barbados is a place of physical beauty.
00:30I remember my first day on that set, I sat down in a hut and I just cried.
00:36You know, I'm from that part of the world and you felt the ancestors, you know?
00:43Just seeing the vastness of the diaspora is so incredible.
00:47It's an adventure on screen and it's been very much an adventure off screen.
00:51I think the biggest jump was going from Canada to Mexico. That was crazy.
00:55The humidity, the mosquitoes.
00:59Some of the hottest days I think this planet has ever seen.
01:02I was like, I don't know if there's any way Disney is going to send me around the world,
01:06but I'm going to write this thing like that's what we plan to do.
01:10I think he would have loved to have shot in the Arctic,
01:12but then I think after he shot in the ice, he's like, you know, ice was cool.
01:15Find a site, isn't it?
01:17I was like, there's going to be a young black boy surrounded by ice and snow.
01:23That's a visual I've never seen.
01:25We were doing something unprecedented.
01:27It's big. It's exciting. It's epic.
01:35And it's something that you can't forget.
01:41It is time to fly.
01:45If you love drama, romance, action, and adventure...
01:51You will get it in Washington Black.
