00:00This is Sami and Sunita Mukherjee, a well-known Indian-American couple from Texas and now the
00:09faces of a 33 crore rupees fraud. They've been charged with running a years-long real estate
00:13scam, duping over a hundred people, many from their own community. In North Texas,
00:17the Mukherjee's weren't just well-known, they were visible. He pitched deals with charm,
00:21she played the gracious host. They organized Bollywood nights, fundraisers,
00:25and mingled with local leaders. They stood out and that's exactly what made the scam work.
00:29Sami told people he was flipping low-income properties, buying them cheap, renovating,
00:33and reselling for massive profit. As per the police, he offered legal-looking contracts,
00:37glossy photos, and the illusion of a booming business. But investigators later revealed
00:42that much of it was fabricated. The homes weren't real, the documents were forged,
00:45and the returns just recycled money from new victims. The case began in 2024,
00:50when a couple reported losing $325,000. As the investigation expanded, the FBI and
00:56forensic accountants uncovered a staggering $4 million in losses affecting elderly citizens,
01:01fellow Indian Americans, and even close friends. In June 2025, both were arrested in Texas.
01:06Sami was taken into custody with reports of an open fraud case in Mumbai. Sunita was released on bond.
01:11They each faced felony theft charges, with potential sentences ranging from 5 to 99 years in prison.
