00:00Once, during his caliphate, Umar ibn al-Khattab, R.A., was walking through the streets of Medina
00:07at night. He would patrol the city himself to make sure the people were safe and cared for.
00:13While walking, he came across a woman sitting near a fire. Her small children were crying
00:19around her. Umar, R.A., approached and asked, Why are your children crying? The woman replied,
00:26I am boiling water with stones inside the pot, just to make them think that food is being prepared
00:32so they will fall asleep. But in truth, we have nothing to eat. Upon hearing this, Umar, R.A.,
00:40was deeply moved. He immediately went to the Beit ul-Mal, the treasury, and took a sack filled
00:46with flour and dates. He insisted on carrying it himself on his back. One of his companions offered,
00:53Let me carry it for you, O Amir ul-Muminin. But Umar, R.A., responded, Will you carry my burden
01:01on the day of judgment too? He carried the sack all the way to the woman's home, personally prepared
01:08the food, and stayed with them until the children had eaten and smiled. This was the justice, humility,
01:14and compassion of Umar ibn al-Khatab, R.A., the leader of the believer.
