Istanbul, Turkey – The TAYFUN ballistic missile, the most powerful ever developed by Turkey’s defence industry, is one of the main highlights at IDEF 2025 – the 17th International Defence Industry Fair, held from 22 to 27 July at the Istanbul Expo Center.

Classified as a Short-Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM), TAYFUN is Turkey’s first domestically produced system to reach this category, with an estimated range between 300 and 1,000 kilometres.

Missiles with a range of less than 300 km are considered Tactical Ballistic Missiles (TBM), while those in the higher range fall under the SRBM classification. The project is being developed by Roketsan, which is responsible for all critical components such as the engine, propellant, and guidance system.

Successful Test in February

Test launches of the TAYFUN missile are continuing at a rapid pace. This past February, during an exercise at Rize-Artvin Airport, the missile successfully struck a target at sea, marking the third successful test of the system.

With this performance, TAYFUN has established itself as the longest-range ballistic missile ever produced in Turkey. According to industry sources, the next phase of the programme includes the development of the CENK missile, which is expected to further enhance the country’s strategic capabilities.
