Travel disruption after major signalling failure at London Waterloo

A major signalling failure at London Waterloo has caused severe disruption, with trains unable to use 14 platforms at the station, according to a rail company.

00:07of services out of Waterloo Station, asked customers and commuters not to travel on its

00:16services on Monday morning due to a major signal failure at Waterloo Station. The train company

00:24said the failure of equipment that routes trains in and out of Waterloo meant they could

00:32not use platforms 1 to 14 at the station, which significantly limited capacity. Passengers

00:40were told they would not be able to claim a taxi ride from South Western Railway, but

00:47would be allowed to use their Monday-dated tickets on Tuesday.

00:55According to National Rail, Monday's incident at London Waterloo was reported at around

01:025.30am. The group advised that tickets would be accepted at no extra cost on a number of

01:10bus and train services. Passengers could travel on specified routes with London buses, Falcon

01:18buses, Stagecoach, South and more bus operators, as well as certain train journeys on the Tube

01:27and with Cross Country, Southern and Great Western Railway. Interestingly, South Western

01:33Railway was the first train operator to be re-nationalised under the Labour government when

01:40it was brought back into public ownership in May.
