$500,000 reward offered in Victoria house fire that killed Katie Tangey

Victoria Police offer half a million dollars for information on fatal Truganina house fire linked to tobacco wars. The fire was described by police as a targeted arson attack made at the wrong address, which killed 27-year-old Katie Tangey and a family dog.

00:00I'm here today to announce a half a million dollar reward for information in relation

00:07to the tragic death of Katie Tangy.

00:11As you're well aware, Katie was tragically killed on the 16th of January this year.

00:19What we know, and I can recap, is on the 16th of January at around 2.30am, two offenders

00:28attended at an address in Dover Street, in Trugganina, there they poured accelerants into the premises.

00:40Katie was house sitting at the time, completely unaware what was about to transpire, unfortunately

00:48she died as a result of that horrific attack, that targeted attack.

00:55We hope this half a million dollar reward will grab people's attention.

01:02Moreover, this is not a general court of the community, but those within the criminal fraternity.

01:10That's the community we are targeting and we hope there's half a million dollars worth

01:14of reasons for them to come forward.

01:17We know there's people out there who know what has happened here.

01:22These two faceless and gutless individuals that carried out this attack.

01:29We just need some names to those faces and we know there's people out there who will know

01:34what has occurred.

01:35They would have spoken about it and if they've got any sense of remorse, hopefully they've

01:41shared that with others.

01:45In terms of the investigation, it is progressing and it's something we're committed to solving.

01:52None the least for the family of Katie, who I know they would love some closure in relation

01:59to this matter.

02:02We know in terms of the investigation there was a vehicle, a dark coloured BMW X5 or similar

02:09type of vehicle that was used in the commission of this offence.

02:13We have released a face image of an individual who's roughly between 25 to 30 years of Middle

02:20Eastern appearance.

02:22And we have released some CCTV footage in relation to the incident.

02:33We know we're one phone call away from cracking this investigation.

02:38We know that.

02:41You know, Crimestoppers, I implore those that do have information, now you've got half a million

02:46dollars worth of reasons to call in and give us information we need to identify these two

02:53persons of interest.
