00:00With all these dating apps, it doesn't seem real.
00:08It's almost like a card game. It's like you're just collecting people.
00:10I've just been swiping and nothing. There's just nothing.
00:15In the heart of Britain's most romantic city,
00:19Fred and his team are matching hopeful singletons
00:24in a place where love is always on the menu.
00:28There's fucking food everywhere.
00:30Mine will always get stuck on my boob shelf.
00:33These daters...
00:34How old are you?
00:35Old enough for you.
00:37...are searching for the one...
00:39Oh, my God.
00:40...in the real world.
00:43I grazed my needles this morning.
00:46It's all in for you.
00:47Oh, my God.
00:50For some stepping into the unknown...
00:53How are you with your technology?
00:54Rubbish. I'm a dinosaur.
00:56Oh, thank goodness.
00:57If I want to get in contact with you, I'll have to WhatsApp you.
01:00Don't get too ahead of yourself.
01:02...can lead to surprising sparks.
01:04I don't know what's going on.
01:07But finding a connection...
01:09What's the dynamic here?
01:10...isn't always easy.
01:12How big is yours?
01:14My husband is a bar.
01:16Would you like to meet him?
01:17Oh, shit.
01:20Help me.
01:21In the end...
01:22Hey, hey, hey.
01:23It comes down to one...
01:25Hello.
01:26Hello.
01:27...big...
01:27This isn't awkward.
01:29...question.
01:30Do you guys want to see each other again?
01:32This is the First Dates Restaurant.
01:44She needs to get ready.
01:46I love me.
01:48I love me.
01:49You look good.
01:49You feel good.
01:50Right.
01:51You always look good.
01:52Okay.
01:52Yeah.
01:56Fish, fresh, I'm fabulous.
01:58Let's go.
01:59Let's go, let's go, let's go.
02:01Woo!
02:03Is it sorted?
02:04Does it look okay?
02:05Fabulous.
02:06But I love me.
02:08Fabulous with a capital F.
02:11This is Rebecca.
02:13Do you want a glass of water?
02:16I actually asked a crew when I got here
02:18whether there was any champagne on offer,
02:19but unfortunately not.
02:22I have slightly bit of only child syndrome.
02:26I'm fussy.
02:27I can be slightly selfish.
02:30Slightly self-absorbed.
02:31I wouldn't say I'm a spoiled brat.
02:34I would say I'm spoiled and grateful.
02:37I get a lot of, like, DMs from guys
02:40expecting me to be this bimbo doll.
02:44But I'm not.
02:46How are you?
02:47Hi, I'm good, thank you.
02:49How are you?
02:49Doing we good?
02:50How do you feel?
02:51Nervous.
02:52You look it.
02:53Why are you nervous?
02:54Like, I don't go on many dates.
02:55I'm too picky.
02:57I want someone perfect.
02:58Have you got very high expectations?
02:59Extremely.
03:00Okay, come with me.
03:01Perfect.
03:02You're the first.
03:03Oh, I'm the first.
03:04Yes.
03:05Hello.
03:06Hello.
03:06How are you?
03:07How are you?
03:07Good to meet you.
03:07Merlin.
03:08Rebecca.
03:09Nice to meet you.
03:10Welcome, welcome, welcome.
03:11What would you like?
03:12Can you do, like, a berry mojito?
03:14I can do something like that.
03:16Yes.
03:17So what sort of guys do you like?
03:19Smart, into politic, close to their family,
03:22because, like, I'm so close with my mum and dad.
03:26I would definitely say I'm more on the right-wing side of things.
03:29And I'd love someone who equally shares my love for politics.
03:33I don't understand why someone wouldn't be interested in something
03:35that potentially affects their future.
03:37If I had to, like, build a boy, fuzzy hair, kind of.
03:42Fuzzy hair.
03:43Well-educated, like, slightly Boris Johnson looking.
03:47Slightly Boris Johnson looking?
03:48Yeah.
03:49That's not something I thought I'd hear today.
03:53I think I would like to be Prime Minister.
03:57Every prospective Prime Minister has a lovely doting wife
04:00you can support them with all the way,
04:02so that would be quite nice.
04:04Wannabe political powerhouse.
04:06This is Prime Minister-in-waiting, Bradley.
04:11I think I would describe myself as sexy.
04:13Probably don't come across as it, like, externally.
04:17But I think, like, internally.
04:20I've got the good chat to back it up, so...
04:22In hoping I can meet a brunette Barbie with the right values,
04:27that matters to me.
04:30How about you, Bradley?
04:31Good, how are you?
04:32Lovely to meet you.
04:33Peter's arrived, she's at the bar.
04:34Oh, great, thanks very much.
04:35No problem.
04:36Hello.
04:37Hi, you must be my date.
04:38Pleasure to meet you.
04:39Lovely to meet you.
04:40How are you?
04:41I'm good, thank you.
04:41What's your name?
04:42Rebecca, what's your name?
04:43Bradley.
04:44Oh, lovely to meet you.
04:45How are you?
04:46Very well.
04:46What would you like?
04:47What are we drinking here?
04:49It's a berry majita.
04:50I'll have one of those.
04:51You'll have one of those?
04:51Yeah, perfect.
04:52How old are you?
04:53I'm 21.
04:54How old are you?
04:5521.
04:5529.
04:56Oh, wow.
04:57Yeah, so yeah, slightly older.
04:59Oh, what do you do for work?
05:00I work for politicians.
05:02Oh.
05:03Yeah.
05:04So I write briefings, advice, do research.
05:08So you feel like both parties or like?
05:10No, Conservatives.
05:11Oh, excellent.
05:12Yeah, yeah.
05:13That's wonderful news.
05:14Is that good news?
05:15That is wonderful news.
05:16Normally it goes like one or two ways.
05:18Oh, my goodness.
05:18I find it like, I've had people like, completely not dating me or so, like, not even giving
05:23me a chance because of my opinion.
05:25Yeah.
05:25Cheers, anyway.
05:26Oh, cheers.
05:26Yeah, lovely to meet you.
05:27Cheers to our first date.
05:29Oh, no, right.
05:32Construct.
05:33Yeah, I feel like I'm on a beach now.
05:36Are you ready?
05:37I think so.
05:37Yeah.
05:38Yeah, let's go.
05:38You hungry?
05:39Yeah.
05:40Ravenous.
05:45Gerald, you need to use a tray.
05:47Okay.
05:48Okay?
05:48Yes.
05:49Always use a tray.
05:50Okay.
05:50Okay.
05:51All right.
05:52Okay.
05:54Okay, Wook.
05:55Are you comfy?
05:56I am comfortable.
05:57All right.
05:58Let's go.
05:59Okay.
06:01Don't drop them.
06:01Yeah.
06:11With a style befitting her namesake, this is 52-year-old Paris.
06:16I'm here because I've been single for 11 years.
06:21Even saying it out loud, it's just like, wow, it's a long time to be single.
06:29And I've tried everything.
06:31I've done online dating, I've done online dating, I've done speed dating, it felt like a cattle
06:37market.
06:41How are you?
06:41I'm good, thank you.
06:43Nice to meet you.
06:43Nice to meet you.
06:43Nice to meet you too.
06:44You're looking fantastic.
06:46Thank you so much.
06:47What are you looking for today?
06:49My soul mates.
06:50Oh, wow, you're really, you're on a mission.
06:53Yeah.
06:54I've been single long enough, I'm ready.
06:55Wow.
06:56Well, let's go then.
06:57Have you ever been here, love?
06:58I don't feel like I have.
07:02I think I'm looking for someone special.
07:04Can I get you a drink first?
07:05Yes, please.
07:06A glass of Prosecco.
07:07A glass of Prosecco, of course.
07:10Ooh, this is lovely.
07:14Who are you looking for?
07:16I don't really have a type.
07:18I'm really into personality, someone that's positive.
07:23And positive, right, positive.
07:24Because I'm very positive.
07:26So I'm attracted to people that are empathetic and kind and know how to give, that aren't
07:31selfish, that are open-minded.
07:34I feel like my vibe is a woman that looks quite feminine, but she's got this confident,
07:40masculine energy.
07:41She carries this energy that makes you think, that's the woman I want to be around.
07:51I like cars, beer, football, women.
07:57My dad always said I should have been born a boy.
08:01Glad I wasn't, because I'd rather chew off my own arm, quite frankly.
08:06Confidently bussing it in a power suit, this is 37-year-old Serena.
08:11What's the dating scene like in Milton Keynes there?
08:14Horrendous.
08:15Absolutely horrendous.
08:18I always get approached by men, even in gay clubs.
08:23So I'm on five different dating apps and still, like, I've even done my radius to 60,
08:2870 miles and there's just nothing.
08:31I think I'm getting nervous now.
08:33I am looking for somebody who is older than me.
08:41I've always dated older women.
08:45Somebody who wants to find love and just have fun.
08:49I don't think we're put on this earth to be alone.
08:53No.
08:54I love that walk of confidence.
08:58Oh, wow.
09:00And that suit, that's proper boss lady.
09:05I have no qualms in going up to somebody and telling them I think they're beautiful.
09:10There's no excuse in the pun, beat around the bush, just go for it, yeah.
09:13Hi.
09:15I'm Paris.
09:16Paris, Serena.
09:17Lovely to meet you.
09:17Nice to meet you.
09:18How are you doing?
09:19I'm really well, thank you.
09:20How are you?
09:20Yeah, good, thank you.
09:21What are you having?
09:22Please, I have a glass of Prosecco.
09:24Of course.
09:24Are you on Prosecco as well?
09:26Yeah.
09:26Oh.
09:28And by the way, you look really beautiful.
09:29So do you.
09:30So do you.
09:31When you were standing over there, I was like, oh my God, she's stunning.
09:34Oh, thank you.
09:34You look absolutely amazing.
09:36You really do.
09:37I love what you're wearing.
09:38Well, it was a risky, risky choice.
09:41I love it.
09:41Or one will be different.
09:42What do you do?
09:43I'm a motivational speaker.
09:45Snap.
09:46Yes.
09:47No way.
09:48Are you serious?
09:48Yeah, yeah, yeah.
09:49Yeah.
09:51So how old are you?
09:53Or how young are you, should I say?
09:55Oh, I don't know.
09:56Please, just.
09:57I'm going to say maybe 36, 37.
10:03I'm 52.
10:03Oh, you really?
10:05Oh, that's great, because I love older women.
10:07Oh, no, that's brilliant.
10:09No dust here.
10:12How are you getting on with the routine?
10:15You know, you've obviously got me, Merlin, Fred, who have been here for, like, decades.
10:19So it's about time we have some freshness.
10:22Guys, are we ready?
10:23Oh, wow, yes.
10:24The Korean fried chicken for you.
10:28And the goat's cheese salad.
10:31Do you go on dating apps a lot then?
10:33I've had, like, mixed experiences on apps.
10:35I think, like, particularly, like, when they find out, like, you work in politics as well,
10:38like, I tell people, like, what I've done and then you just get, like, totally unmatched
10:41or, like, people just, like, say some horrible things to you.
10:44It's not exactly attractive when, like, a raging lefty sort of bashes you for who you
10:48are and what you do, but...
10:49Oh, absolutely.
10:50I know.
10:51I've spoken to people on dating apps and then when they find out who I work for and what
10:56I do, they've, like, very promptly unmatched me.
10:58So it's quite a brutal world out there.
11:01I genuinely do not think it's the be-all and end-all.
11:04No.
11:04Even if there was, like, a total lefty.
11:06Yeah.
11:06Which is fine.
11:08Erm, I suppose.
11:10Is it?
11:10I don't know.
11:11Yeah.
11:12I mean, like, at the end of the day, I'm not looking to appease, like, a thousand people
11:17out there in the dating world, just finding one would be quite nice.
11:22Like, some of my friends are, like, communists, for example.
11:26I know, which is insane.
11:27Yeah, I wouldn't make friends with those.
11:29Yeah.
11:29Who's the most interesting figure that you've met?
11:32I met Boris once.
11:33Oh, really?
11:34Yeah.
11:35Wow.
11:35I'm really glad that we bonded over, like, politics because I was really scared that
11:39it was going to be, like, a debate and then that was going to be it.
11:42Oh, no.
11:43You can't have voted in, like, many elections then, surely?
11:45No.
11:46Just last year?
11:47Yeah.
11:48Really?
11:48Yeah, just last year.
11:50So you must have done two?
11:52No, I've done loads.
11:53Er, so, first one, 2014, European elections.
11:57I was 11.
11:59Christ, God.
12:11All right, Prosecco.
12:13Thank you very much.
12:14What is your name?
12:15Sorry.
12:15Oh, shoot.
12:17I am sorry.
12:19Don't be silly.
12:20Don't be silly.
12:21It happens.
12:21No, let me...
12:23At least it's not red wine.
12:25A towel?
12:25Don't say that.
12:27Careful, be careful.
12:28You can't take that.
12:29I apologise.
12:29No, don't be silly.
12:30Don't be silly.
12:31Don't be silly.
12:31Don't be silly.
12:31Are you okay?
12:33Are you okay?
12:33My second date.
12:36It didn't go over you, did it?
12:46It didn't go over me at all.
12:48No?
12:49No?
12:49Are you all right?
12:54I almost ruined the date.
12:56Can we just walk round the bar and do some practising with plates?
12:58Okay.
12:59Plates, drinks, and we'll get you back, your confidence back.
13:01All right.
13:02I like it.
13:02Let's go.
13:02I like it.
13:02Are you quite a big drinker?
13:13Depends.
13:13Obviously, I'm 21, so, like, it's still massive.
13:16Sort of big novelty to you.
13:17Yeah.
13:18And what do you get up to outside of day job?
13:23Still go to, like, the club a lot.
13:25Yeah, I do a four-day week, so...
13:27You actually?
13:27Yeah.
13:28Oh, jealous.
13:29I had a little bit of an easy life.
13:31This sounds so bad.
13:32I love living at home.
13:33My parents do absolutely everything for me.
13:36They're my absolute world, because I was an only child.
13:39They were the only, like, thing I had, so...
13:41Yeah.
13:41I don't get people who strive to move out to then have to suffer.
13:45They can't go out.
13:46They can't buy the nice handbag they want.
13:48They can't have, like, a nice bottle of champagne,
13:50because you've got to pay rent and do boring things like laundry.
13:55What about you?
13:57So, yeah, like, very sporty, so, like, training for a marathon currently.
14:01Oh, wow.
14:01So, yeah, like, big into running at the moment.
14:04I went to the gym last about two years ago.
14:06I went on the treadmill, I literally threw it up.
14:10I've, like, not drank a lot this year, either.
14:13I mean, I've had some bad drunken times.
14:15Like, last year at Grand National,
14:17I had three bottles of wine and eight vodkas.
14:20Three bottles of wine?
14:21Mm-hmm.
14:22Are you a party animal, then?
14:23It genuinely depends on the weekend.
14:25And I'd probably go out, like, twice a week.
14:29Yeah.
14:29Not twice a week, twice a month.
14:30Yes, he did it.
14:41All right.
14:42I think you nailed it.
14:42It's just practice.
14:44So, with your motivational speaking, like, tell me more about that.
14:47I'm what is now very, very commonly referred to
14:53as a lived-experienced speaker.
14:55Mm-hmm.
14:55I never lived with my mum and dad.
14:57I went into care when I was six.
15:00Really?
15:01It's not like, poor me, this is how bad it was.
15:05It's, my life is amazing.
15:06I grew up in care, and this is why my life is amazing.
15:10I was told to stay back after school,
15:12and some people from the NSPCC came and took some pictures
15:17and realised very quickly that maybe I needed to go to hospital.
15:22And when they did some x-rays,
15:24they found some quite disturbing stuff,
15:26and as a result of that, I never went back home.
15:31Unfortunately, my mum went into prison,
15:34so it was a tough time, a really tough time, actually.
15:38And, yes, it was a scary time, but the NSPCC were lovely.
15:43I had got my first ever cuddly toy.
15:46The first time I got a cuddly toy, was it?
15:48Yeah, it's quite sad to say that, but, yeah, yeah, yeah.
15:53Unfortunately, my foster family broke down
15:55and I went back into a children's home,
15:56and 14 placements later, I left care.
15:59So, to live in 14 different homes before the age of 18,
16:04you are unsettled, distrustful, angry.
16:10I grew up really fast,
16:12and it made me fiercely independent from quite a young age.
16:16And I had to learn how to be vulnerable
16:19and how to first love myself and then learn to accept love.
16:24And I'm really ready for that now.
16:25I've done enough work on myself.
16:32I'm pretty stable in my life,
16:34and I know where I'm kind of going.
16:35Yeah.
16:36And I'm ready.
16:37Oh.
16:38You're like an earth angel, aren't you?
16:41Snapchat, is that even a sort of thing?
16:43And you don't know about Snapchat?
16:44Well, it is.
16:44Are you still on Snapchat?
16:45No, thanks very much.
16:47So, how do you communicate?
16:49You're going to tell me WhatsApp, aren't you?
16:50Yeah, WhatsApp.
16:50Is that such an old thing to say?
16:52Yeah.
16:52Is it?
16:53I only communicate with my middle-aged work colleagues.
16:57On WhatsApp?
16:58Yeah.
16:58Everything over WhatsApp.
16:59If I want to get in contact with you, I have to WhatsApp, yeah.
17:04Don't get too ahead of yourself.
17:05No.
17:05You seem pretty confident, like, you know what you're doing.
17:14Like, I don't feel worried about you.
17:15I feel like...
17:16Oh, I'll be fine.
17:17I'm just going to let you do your thing.
17:18I might start becoming a little bit mental,
17:19start doing dancing and stuff like that.
17:21You can dance.
17:21We welcome dancing here.
17:24OK, cool.
17:28Hello.
17:29Midwife Anna is a pro at staying calm,
17:32but she's hoping tonight's date gets her heart racing.
17:36I'm an insatiable optimist.
17:38There's something about that spark when two people meet.
17:41Are you looking for a little bit of magic?
17:44Oh.
17:45Ah!
17:47That would be...
17:49That would be great.
17:52I love love,
17:55which...
17:56I haven't given up on that yet.
17:58Very good to meet you.
18:03Lovely to meet you, too.
18:04Are you ready for this?
18:06I'm excited.
18:07Nervous.
18:08Are you?
18:08Yeah.
18:09Let's go.
18:09You're the first, by the way.
18:10Oh, great.
18:11Come with me.
18:13I think if I fancied somebody on the date,
18:17I'm cringing to think,
18:19but I think I could literally swoon at them,
18:20like, ah, swoon.
18:22Hi there.
18:22How you doing?
18:23Oh, well, thank you.
18:24What would you like to drink?
18:25Something maybe rum.
18:27There's a lovely drink on here.
18:29Oh, okay.
18:29Rum based.
18:30And so where have you come from?
18:31I've come from Weymouth.
18:32What?
18:33Waybither, as we like to say.
18:35Waybither, right.
18:37And what do you do?
18:38I'm a midwife.
18:39You're a midwife.
18:40Cool.
18:40Bringing babies into the world.
18:42Well, catching them.
18:43Yeah, catching them.
18:44Right.
18:45And is it not easy just to meet people these days?
18:48No.
18:48Not when you're a midwife,
18:49because the only men I meet are about to have their baby,
18:52and that's an absolute no-no.
18:53Oh, right.
18:54Okay, yeah.
18:54I haven't been on a date in a long time.
18:57I don't meet many people at the moment in my day-to-day life as a midwife and as a single
19:04man.
19:05I think I could fall in love at first sight.
19:08Who are you looking for?
19:15What kind of person do you like?
19:17It's that soul connection.
19:19Right.
19:19Which might sound like I'm expecting too much.
19:22I'm not sure.
19:22But I think if you aim high, then it gives it a chance.
19:25Well, that's right.
19:26I am really drawn to emotional intelligence, but I have been accused of being a beard lover.
19:35And I do have a soft spot for Gandalf.
19:39I think I'd love, you know, the idea of stretching out by a ten and watching the sky.
19:44So an outdoorsy sort of bloke as well?
19:45That would be great, yeah.
19:46That would be great.
19:47Nice.
19:47The way that I used to train in the army, be hard to kill, be easy to love, be generous
19:55with your time.
19:56No stranger to roughing it in the wilderness with facial hair to match.
20:01Meet Luke.
20:02Is falling in love anything like falling out of a plane?
20:06I guess we'll find out.
20:10How are you, Luke?
20:11Nice to meet you.
20:11And you.
20:12Pleasure.
20:13What an impressive man you are.
20:14Thank you very much.
20:15You're a man's man.
20:16Your date is here.
20:17OK.
20:18She's at the bar.
20:21I'm just looking for someone who's just chilled, likes to have a laugh.
20:26But, you know, someone kind, caring, compassionate, family person.
20:31Maybe a bit on the quirky side.
20:36Surprise.
20:37Hello.
20:37Hello.
20:38How are you?
20:39I'm well.
20:39Hug?
20:40Yeah, absolutely.
20:41Hello.
20:41Hello.
20:42Lovely to meet you.
20:43Lovely to meet you.
20:44Lovely to meet you, too.
20:46What can I get you?
20:47Ooh.
20:48There's a cocktail that I had at Download Festival, a mango smash, which was just so addictive.
20:54Right.
20:54OK, cool.
20:54Let's see what we can do.
20:56Have you traveled far?
20:57I'm from, well, I live in Weymouth now.
20:59OK.
21:00OK.
21:00Yeah.
21:00Is there a decent surf at Weymouth?
21:03I'm an enthusiastic but dreadful surfer.
21:05I can, I can ride a clean wave.
21:07I can do a turn.
21:09Oh, OK, well, no, hats off to you, you're the professional.
21:13And then, and then I collapse.
21:17So, you're hypnotized.
21:20This is great.
21:21Sorry, I forgot where we were for a moment.
21:23I'm going to take you to the table and you can carry on being hypnotized.
21:26Come with me, guys.
21:28Ah, last but not least.
21:30Oh, amazing.
21:32Are we doing a dessert cocktail?
21:33A tequila shot?
21:35Should we do a tequila shot?
21:36Yeah.
21:36We could do a tequila shot.
21:37Oh, God.
21:38What have you got me into?
21:38Yeah, go on, then.
21:39Yeah.
21:40Enjoy, guys.
21:41Thanks very much.
21:42You're a bad influence on me.
21:43Tequila shots literally used to make me, like, sick when I was 18, but why not?
21:47Oh, dear, you do.
21:55Do you think that he fancied you?
21:58I'd love to think that everyone fancies me.
22:01Oh, my God.
22:02Back of the crease.
22:03I mean, I just noticed his eyes a little bit, like...
22:08What do you mean, where are his eyes?
22:13I'll just leave the bill in the middle for you guys.
22:14That's great.
22:16Thank you so much.
22:17Do you want to split it?
22:18I'll pay for this.
22:19Are you sure?
22:20It's the least I can do for good company.
22:22Good.
22:22Oh, you're so lovely.
22:28Would you like to see each other again?
22:30I'll let you go first.
22:31I'll just give you the gentleman and go first.
22:33Anyway, for me, just being totally honest, probably not.
22:39I just think you're a really nice girl.
22:40I really enjoy getting to know you.
22:42But for me, just a bit of, like, a lifestyle and compatibility.
22:45Absolutely.
22:46Yeah, I agree.
22:47Yeah.
22:47Like, you're definitely a catch.
22:49Oh, thank you.
22:51Someone else with Snapchat.
22:51Let me, like, write them briefs and, like, you have to tell them, like, what to do.
22:57I felt like I was talking to, like, one of my uncles and, like, I felt like I was networking.
23:02I feel like I'm about to go home and connect with him on LinkedIn.
23:04Thank you very much.
23:11I think it's the other way round.
23:12Yeah.
23:13Oh, no, I'm sorry.
23:14No, that's okay.
23:15That's okay.
23:16Lovely.
23:16If I screwed it up?
23:17No, not at all.
23:18Lovely.
23:19Thanks, Gerald.
23:20You're welcome.
23:22Harold?
23:22Gerald.
23:22You got it right.
23:23You got it right.
23:25Bon appétit.
23:28Enjoy.
23:28Bon appétit.
23:29Thank you, you too.
23:30Enjoy.
23:31When you were asked what your type was, what did you say?
23:34I don't have a thing around looks, but I prefer a woman to a man.
23:41What about you?
23:43I like somebody who's a bit taller than me because I'm only 5'5".
23:47So, um, my friends call me Pocket Rocket.
23:51Oh, no, stop it.
23:52You're not that tall.
23:56So, I said that my type was just somebody, like, really family-orientated.
24:01I agree.
24:01Me and my sister are close.
24:02Oh, see, that's the thing, like, me and my mum are, like, two peas in a pod.
24:06Oh, that's lovely.
24:06And we recently had an operation where, um, it's just brought us even closer together,
24:12if we could be, you know.
24:15My mum had been suffering with kidney disease for quite some time.
24:19Um, it effectively got to the point where my mum said that she just didn't want to live
24:23anymore.
24:23And hearing your mum say that, it's, you know, it's heartbreaking.
24:27She'd been on the transplant list for quite a while, but it was getting to the point where,
24:32it, you know, time was up.
24:34But, um, it turned out I was a perfect match.
24:38And, um, yeah, my mum's got my left kidney.
24:42She's called it Sydney.
24:44Sydney, the kidney.
24:45Yeah.
24:46That was after our operation.
24:51Yeah.
24:51The kidney I gave my mum is called a butch kidney.
24:54Um, ironic.
24:57My mum, because my mum said to me, she went, oh, funny that.
25:00She said, because when she told me, you gave me a butch kidney, she went, oh, my daughter's
25:04a lesbian.
25:08Yeah.
25:09Um, good old mums.
25:13Does your mum want you to find someone?
25:14Yes.
25:16We both wear our hearts on our sleeve and we both have a lot of love to give.
25:21I feel like it's my time now to find my person.
25:26Yeah.
25:28Oh, hold up.
25:29Yeah, I was going to say, we'll be back, we'll be back.
25:33Maybe I should get the cushion.
25:35Oh, bye.
25:36Don't.
25:37Go on.
25:37Thank you very much.
25:38Thank you very much.
25:44Oh, my God.
25:49Katie, she's lovely.
25:51The only thing is I can't tell at all if she likes me.
25:57Like, I've got no idea.
25:58None.
25:59I'm not picking up any vibes.
26:04Should we cheers?
26:05We didn't do that, did we?
26:06Yes.
26:06Cheers.
26:07It's lovely to meet you.
26:08Really lovely to meet you, too.
26:09Is that a mojito?
26:10No.
26:10No, it's not, is it?
26:11This is ironically called a second chance.
26:14I love it.
26:16So how long, how long are you single?
26:19I got divorced about six years ago.
26:21Okay.
26:22And since then, I'm a single mum to an eight-year-old.
26:25I see.
26:26And I've been in the NHS for 23 years now.
26:29And I work as a midwife and I've worked overseas in humanitarian aid.
26:34I mean, I only did three long placements, that's, so I went to, in South Sudan, which was conflict,
26:39and then Haiti after the earthquake and with Rohingya people in Bangladesh.
26:45In my aid work, I had never found a way of making a relationship work.
26:50And I left specifically because I knew I couldn't be a mum and do aid work.
26:56I then went back to Bangladesh to teach on the country's first ever midwifery course.
27:01And I met a very handsome surfing instructor.
27:05And we did fall in love.
27:07And I found out I was pregnant, which was unexpected.
27:12I just thought, this is, you know, this is my chance to be happy.
27:15I've helped other people and now this is my turn.
27:18I think people tend to think that aid workers just waft through the emergencies
27:23and it doesn't impact them whatsoever.
27:25But the reality of aid work is that, of course, you're just people.
27:29We found out at our 20-week scan that my daughter had a brain tumour.
27:38Sorry.
27:39And I can remember we met with the neurosurgeon and I'd asked,
27:47what's her chance of survival?
27:48But they just said there was no chance of survival for her.
27:51So I gave birth to her early and she died after an hour.
27:56And it was nine years ago and sometimes it can still bring me to my knees out of nowhere.
28:07We went on and had another daughter and she's the best thing that ever happened to me.
28:18For six years now I've been a lone parent and I've got a lot of love to give that I'm not also currently giving.
28:26And I feel really ready that I could share that space with somebody really special.
28:33That would be great.
28:36I brought you something.
28:38Did you?
28:38Now I feel awful.
28:39No, don't.
28:40So it's nautical items that have been repurposed.
28:44OK.
28:45Thank you very much.
28:46And because it's from the sea then it would remind you that I'm from the seaside.
28:51That is absolutely lovely.
28:54Thank you so much.
28:55You're welcome.
28:58My apologies for the drink early on.
29:00Oh, no, I don't know.
29:01I am so sorry.
29:02I'm glad it wasn't Bloody Mary.
29:03No.
29:05Unfortunate error.
29:06So we've got this beautiful area outside.
29:08We've got a dessert for you on the house.
29:09Oh, that would be really nice.
29:10Oh, wow.
29:11Come with me.
29:13What's going on with that?
29:15Chips down first, that down second.
29:17That down second.
29:18Chips first, that second.
29:19Perfect.
29:20OK.
29:20And just smile.
29:21I'll tell you what, do you want me to move half the heart?
29:26Oh, bless y'all.
29:28Go on.
29:28My worry was I was going to go on a date with somebody that was so hard to have a conversation
29:38with.
29:38No way.
29:39Really?
29:39So, how'd you go?
29:42Really well.
29:43I had a lovely time.
29:45She's brilliant.
29:47I really like her.
29:48It's a great match.
29:49But I didn't get a sense of whether she liked me, like, relationship-wise.
29:55But we had so much in common.
29:58And I really liked her.
30:00Hello again.
30:01Hello.
30:02How do we want to do?
30:03No, I will get this place.
30:05No, no, no.
30:06You don't even think about it.
30:07You've got to be kidding me.
30:08No.
30:08Her money's fake anyway, so please don't.
30:10Her money's fake.
30:11We've even got the same credit card.
30:13No, no, can you not?
30:16Hello.
30:17Hello again.
30:23So, would you guys see each other again?
30:29Go on.
30:30Go on, you first.
30:31Definitely, yeah.
30:33Yeah.
30:34No, I would.
30:35I would, yeah.
30:36It would be really nice to see you again.
30:37I'm so shocked.
30:39Why?
30:40Why did you laugh?
30:41Yeah, I had a great time, but I am shocked.
30:44Why?
30:45I just am.
30:45I really didn't expect you to say yeah.
30:47Really?
30:48Yeah, I didn't.
30:49Oh, well, no.
30:50I had a big of a lot.
30:50Lazerly shocked, of course.
30:52I think if I wasn't laughing, you were laughing.
30:54And if you wasn't laughing, I was laughing.
30:57And then throw Harold or Harold or whatever his name is.
31:00Harold or Harold.
31:01What's going on?
31:02It's one of those who was there.
31:04Throw him into the mix.
31:05Yeah.
31:05I think we were all.
31:06He was so sweet.
31:07Yeah.
31:07He was so sweet.
31:08Yeah.
31:10Would you be up for getting another drink after this?
31:13Yeah, of course.
31:14Yay.
31:15Let's do it.
31:16Red or white?
31:17Wine.
31:18Yeah.
31:19Wine.
31:19OK.
31:22Oh, just don't spit it down, we.
31:24Make sure this stays clean.
31:25Don't be a Harold.
31:26Harold, Gerald, what's his name?
31:27I don't know.
31:37Wanting to prove he's not just all fur coat and no knickers, meet Cormac.
31:43Everyone always asks me, am I born in the wrong decade?
31:46The simple answer to that is, yes, I was.
31:49Having these outfits has allowed me to get recognised by said certain people.
31:57Such are.
31:58Mr. Rod Stewart.
32:04How are you?
32:05I'm delicious.
32:06How are you, Fred?
32:06Very good.
32:07What an entrance.
32:08Do you like it?
32:09Yes.
32:09It's just quite incredible.
32:10Oh, thank you.
32:11You're looking very nice yourself.
32:12Thank you very much.
32:13Look at him.
32:13Yeah.
32:14Even his shoes.
32:15He looks funky.
32:16Are you ready?
32:17I'm definitely ready, yes.
32:19Come with me.
32:19Thank you very much.
32:21Thank you, Fred.
32:22Hello, hello.
32:22Hello, Merlin.
32:23Would you like a drink?
32:24Yes.
32:24Could I have a green tea with a slice of lemon, please?
32:26Green tea, sliced lemon, coming up.
32:28So what do you do?
32:30I'm a motoring journalist.
32:31Oh, a motoring journalist.
32:32Yeah, as well.
32:33And I've got Rolls Royces and Bentleys as well.
32:34Rolls Royces and Bentleys.
32:36Well, the Rolls Royce was my second car.
32:38That was it, yeah.
32:39Oh, look at that.
32:40What a beauty.
32:41I like the attention that the cars get from women.
32:44When they see a young lad jumping into a car with that kind of calibre.
32:49They then seem to be very interested.
32:52But I don't want the wrong attention.
32:54I want to be with an honest girl.
32:56But what sort of girl are you looking for, then?
32:58I prefer an older woman.
32:59And what's older to you, then?
33:00My cut-off, don't laugh at this, is 65.
33:03I'd say, yeah.
33:03Wow, OK.
33:04No, when you ask out a girl who's my kind of age, she just don't seem too...
33:07Sorry, what is your kind of age, by the way?
33:0924.
33:1024, yeah.
33:11Fingers crossed for you, mate.
33:12Fingers crossed for you, mate.
33:13I'll see you in a moment.
33:17My dream woman is a kind of woman like Carol Vorderman.
33:21On the countdown to her date, and with a head for figures, is snack bar owner Lorraine.
33:29I'll be 59 this year.
33:31And I don't feel that at all.
33:35I feel 18.
33:37Most people my age are married.
33:40Or dead.
33:44I'm not against being with a younger person,
33:48because I do think that my energy does match a younger person,
33:52and it does give me confidence.
33:54I want somebody that's a little bit different,
33:58and if I fancy them as well, then that's a bonus.
34:02How are you?
34:03You're looking fantastic.
34:04So are you.
34:05If that's her, she looks lovely.
34:07So, are you ready to meet your date?
34:09I think so.
34:10The lady number.
34:12Do you think she's going to put a cigarette out?
34:13Oh, my God, yeah, she looks like Grace and Sandy.
34:15That whole outfit.
34:16No.
34:17This is Cormac.
34:18Enjoy your date.
34:19I'm Cormac.
34:19I look at you.
34:20Do you like it?
34:21You look lovely.
34:21Well, thank you very much.
34:25What's your name?
34:25Lorraine.
34:26I'm Cormac.
34:27You look fabulous.
34:28You look great.
34:30Tell me about a stud.
34:31Yeah.
34:32I love your coat.
34:33Do you like it?
34:34Yeah, can I have it?
34:35You can, yeah.
34:36Thanks.
34:36Are you into older women?
34:38Yeah.
34:39So what's your cut off?
34:4166.
34:4466?
34:44So I'm 58.
34:50How are you?
34:51Oh, perfect.
34:52How old are you?
34:53Old enough for you.
34:57Oh, my God.
35:01Do you enjoy the sea, I'm guessing?
35:03I do.
35:04I went to visit my uncle.
35:06He lives out in Sydney.
35:07My uncle turned around to me and goes,
35:08mate, you do not have to go in the water.
35:10I said, do you know what?
35:12I've just done six months in Afghan.
35:14I'll do it.
35:17I'm really interested in Afghanistan.
35:20Are you okay talking about it?
35:21I know that it's probably challenging.
35:23I mean, I didn't lose anyone that I was close to
35:26whilst I was out there.
35:29But I have since they've come back,
35:32which is the ultimate sucker punch, I suppose.
35:37It's just very brutal.
35:39I've never had to deal with someone so close to me
35:41taking their own life.
35:43Sorry.
35:44No, don't be sorry.
35:49I left the upset from when I got home.
35:53Um, it's, I was, I was, I was a mess.
35:58We're all grateful that people do put themselves on the line for others.
36:05Yeah, I mean, you know, um, when I first left,
36:08my beard was a bit Forrest Gumpy.
36:10Love a big beard, though.
36:11Um, it looks good on you, it looks good on you, though.
36:20What's it say under the chair in Meze?
36:22Falafel served with Tzatzky and Hummus with Spice Roasted Chickpeas.
36:28I'm just laughing because...
36:30I can't pronounce it.
36:32No, I think you're doing very well, honestly, you are, yeah.
36:36Thank you. I'm not Spanish, so I can't pronounce it.
36:40Have you been to Bath before?
36:41I love Bath.
36:42Why do you say Bath?
36:43Oh, it said Bath.
36:44It's Bath.
36:45Bath.
36:48You managed to decide?
36:50Yeah.
36:51Gambus Pilpil.
36:53Yeah.
36:53And the chair in Meze and the patatus bravus.
36:57I mean, no worries.
36:58I've got to tell you something.
36:59You look a bit like Sandy from Greece.
37:02What, Olivia Newton-John?
37:03Tell me about his stud.
37:04You are the one I want.
37:06I can take that.
37:09I can take that.
37:11Sandy.
37:12God, new name.
37:16So, tell me about your relationship history, then.
37:20Come on, a date.
37:20This is going to be very, very honest, OK?
37:23I've asked that loads of girls before,
37:25but they're just not interested.
37:27Are they younger girls, you're asking about?
37:28Yeah, about my age.
37:29Because I don't have that shredded body,
37:31most girls, young girls,
37:32I'm after, oh, my God, he's got muscles.
37:34Muscles do not appeal to me.
37:36You do know that the dad bod is a thing, don't you?
37:40I do struggle, because I feel like I'm heavy.
37:43Why have you got an issue with you?
37:45Because I was bullied in school.
37:47For what?
37:48Ginger hair, fat, overweight.
37:50I was always picked on, you know, like,
37:52oh, he's thick as shit.
37:53I failed school.
37:54What's helped build my confidence was cars.
37:58That was my passion.
37:59That was my determination to be able to own some amazing cars.
38:03The reason I've not had a relationship
38:05is because partly I've been so focused on building my career,
38:09but also it's finding that right woman who accepts me for me.
38:12I've had a few premium cars at my young age.
38:18Rolls-Royce's and Bentley's.
38:20Let's get married.
38:22Yeah.
38:23Let me roll my sleeves up.
38:24This is getting serious.
38:26So what have you got?
38:27Do you want me to show you?
38:28Yeah.
38:29This was my first one.
38:31That was my Rolls-Royce.
38:33I've just sold an Aston Martin.
38:36Did you have an Aston Martin?
38:38Which one did you have?
38:39The Aston Martin Vantage.
38:41We had an Aston Martin.
38:43So we've got the Gambus pills,
38:44so I'll check it anywhere, is it?
38:46Yeah.
38:47So you can all dip in.
38:48This is the Mersey plate.
38:49Oh, God, that's garlic.
38:50I can't eat that.
38:51I might be snogging someone later.
38:54I wouldn't mind that.
38:55I'd like that.
38:56How's it going?
39:07He's beautiful, Hannah.
39:09Inside and out.
39:12God.
39:14Are you having a good time?
39:15Yeah, it's been lovely.
39:16Yeah?
39:17Yeah, really nice.
39:19Is it what you were expecting?
39:21You don't know what to expect, do you?
39:26I'm really into electronic music and techno.
39:31Oh, are you?
39:31Techno.
39:32OK.
39:33What do you like?
39:33I like the 60s to the 80s stuff.
39:36They're really not my thing.
39:38I don't know too much about that.
39:39I'm a bit of a raver.
39:40Oh, are you?
39:41Yeah.
39:41Oh, nice.
39:42I'm not your average 58-year-old.
39:45Which is good.
39:46I mean, it's very difficult to find someone that's good fun,
39:49that's older.
39:50Yeah.
39:51So I've just spent the last 30 years with somebody
39:54who, it was a very toxic relationship.
39:58I stayed there because...
40:00Your kids.
40:01Yeah.
40:01Yeah.
40:02Exactly.
40:02It's hard, though, isn't it?
40:03It is hard because my mum and dad broke up
40:06when I was five years old
40:07and all I wanted was for them to get back together
40:10and so then I became obsessive
40:12that I wanted my son, Louis,
40:15to have his mum and dad together.
40:17Yeah.
40:17Was to be together.
40:18I had his previous phone.
40:22He'd got a new phone
40:23and one of the girls at work
40:25was looking through the photographs on the phone
40:28and said,
40:29Who's she?
40:30I mean, it wasn't a nice way to find out
40:33and in the end, I'd had enough
40:35and I wasn't doing it anymore
40:37and I left.
40:40Thank God I left him.
40:42Are you much happier now?
40:43Oh, my God.
40:44Is it?
40:45My life, I have the most fantastic life.
40:48Well, that's the main thing.
40:49And I've made that happen.
40:51Two years ago, I felt 108
40:53but now I'm a totally different person.
40:57I'm enjoying life
40:59and I want someone that can do that with me.
41:04What does your son do?
41:06He's a builder.
41:07Now, how old is he?
41:09Older than you.
41:10Is he?
41:10He's 30 in April.
41:16Oh, so he's only six years older than me then.
41:21Hi, Louis.
41:22This is cool, Matt.
41:23You new stepdad.
41:24Yeah?
41:25He's 24.
41:29I had a nose piercing once.
41:31Did you?
41:32I've had so many different piercings.
41:34Have you?
41:34Yeah.
41:35It would suit you, though.
41:36It would suit you.
41:36Now, is this a swoon moment?
41:47Hello.
41:49I've had a great time.
41:51I've taken the lips of printing your bill for you.
41:53Okay, thank you.
41:54Let's split the bill.
41:55No.
41:56I got this.
41:57We have just talked and shared.
42:01You know, the world just disappeared for the last hour or two hours.
42:06I don't even know how long it's taken.
42:08I really fancy him.
42:11So pleased for you.
42:13Yes, but that leaves me now a little vulnerable.
42:16It's out of my hands.
42:17Yeah.
42:18Hello.
42:23Hello.
42:24Hello.
42:25Would you like to see you again?
42:28I'll see you again, yeah.
42:29Great.
42:30I was going to say that to you.
42:32Okay.
42:33Hey.
42:34It was lovely, wasn't it?
42:35So great.
42:36Yeah.
42:37Yeah.
42:38Same again tomorrow?
42:39Same again tomorrow.
42:40You are so easy to talk to and open up to, especially when I was telling you things that were not easy to tell.
42:50Tell me something you like about it, Luke.
42:53It's hot.
42:55That's very nice.
42:56You're welcome.
42:57That's awfully kind.
42:59Awfully kind.
43:00So what might a second date look like?
43:03Maybe something that was by the sea.
43:05You can surf and I can swim and watch you go by.
43:09There we go.
43:09Are you cold?
43:11A little bit.
43:12Yeah.
43:25Oh, someone's picking it up, aren't they?
43:31Oh, wow.
43:33That is really impressive.
43:35That took me about six months to do that.
43:38Oh, and a more.
43:39Oh, my God.
43:40Thank God there's nothing on it.
43:43Do you like me?
43:44Yeah.
43:45Do you like me?
43:47I'm not too young for you, am I?
43:49Well, you are quite young.
43:51Yeah.
43:51I mean, you're entertaining.
43:53Oh, yeah.
43:55You can usually tell on a date if there is a spark or isn't it, and instantaneously I felt
44:00that was, there was a spark.
44:02You've got a little bit, you've got a little bit on there.
44:06Are we to kiss it off?
44:07No, thanks.
44:07No.
44:07There was a lot of flirting, so, yeah, hopefully she does fancy me and she does say, yeah.
44:14I like stroking my own jacket.
44:16Do you?
44:16Yeah.
44:17What about with me in it?
44:19Yeah.
44:19Hi.
44:28Hey.
44:29What about my hair?
44:31Do you want me to stroke your hair?
44:32Yeah, if you want me to stroke your hair, leave that for later.
44:38Would you like to see each other again?
44:41Yes.
44:42I would do, yes.
44:43I would, yeah.
44:44Yeah.
44:45But yeah, I'll definitely see you again.
44:47Are we going out tonight?
44:48I'll go out tonight.
44:49Yeah, yeah.
44:49Yeah, yeah.
44:50I'll go out tonight.
44:51Yeah, that's a yes then.
44:51Yeah.
44:53I've got a bad back.
44:55Right, are you ready?
44:56You're 24.
44:57Oh, no.
44:59I feel about 54.
45:00You're very switched on and you know what you want as well.
45:03I like that, so.
45:04Yeah, thank you.
45:05That's really nice.
45:08And you're well sexy as well, so yeah.
45:14I've got a feeling that this is going to be a heavy night, innit?
45:18Let's cause mayhem in bath.
45:20Bath, yeah.
45:21Bath.
45:23Shall we go and get some drinks in bath?
45:27You mean bath?
45:30Oh, we love it, don't we?
45:33Oh, we do.
45:34But yeah, that does just go to show that men can't do two things at once.
45:38Oh, I've never had a first date before.
45:51I've never had any date where my food has gone cold.
45:53So, you're welcome.
45:55You better understand
45:58To my heart I must be true
46:02Love and love, love and love
46:05Hold me to you
46:06You're the one that I want
46:07You don't think I'm too old for you?
46:09No.
46:09Take all my boxes.
46:12Tell me about it.
46:13You don't think I'm too old for you
46:14You don't think I'm too old for you
46:15You don't think I'm too old for you
46:16You don't think I'm too old for you
46:17You don't think I'm too old for you
46:18You don't think I'm too old for you
46:19You don't think I'm too old for you
46:20You don't think I'm too old for you
46:21You don't think I'm too old for you
46:22You don't think I'm too old for you
46:23You don't think I'm too old for you
46:24You don't think I'm too old for you
46:25You don't think I'm too old for you
46:26You don't think I'm too old for you
46:27You don't think I'm too old for you
