2025 Pro Motocross Washougal - 250 Moto 1
Transcript
00:00Moda on the 30, who beat Deegan two weeks ago. Deegan got hurt in qualifying. It's a rematch now. Here it is. Rives are up. Gates down.
00:17And it's the triumph out front. Second year ever competing in SMX for the storied British brand. It's the 22 of Jalik Swal with another good start.
00:26Again, a little turndown for what? Jalik out there. Good to see him back. This guy just came off an Achilles injury a few races ago. He's been fast, but love to see Jalik Swal out front on that triumph. Oh, yeah. Great personality on this kid, too. He is totally unfiltered. And boy, has he been riding well. Meanwhile, big stack up behind him. Believe that is Ryder DeFrancisco. A rider who's been great at qualifying, hasn't been able to translate it to the races, has his chance. Hayden digging his third.
00:54Yep. That's the only problem for Jalik and Ryder D is that the number one's already up in third. And we know how he is on this racetrack. A couple years ago, really, to bounce back is what the rod that made Hayden Deegan the way he was able to win that motor. So, you know, he's got the confidence. But Jalik's looking great out front.
01:11Yes, Deegan won here in 2023. And that really, in his rookie season, unlocked a new level. And he has not relented much since. But what a story for Swal coming back, as you said, for the Achilles injury early about a month ago in Pennsylvania at High Point.
01:28And then got on the podium not far after that. And has been a frontrunner week after week for this new brand in motocross. They're very well established in road racing, Will.
01:37And it's not only the return from the Achilles heel rupture that's the problem. He's also suffering right now from a UCL, which is the ligament in the thumb. He did that at Southwick. So, ever since the week after Southwick, several rounds ago now, he hasn't been able to ride during the week. Checking in with him today.
01:55It was all taped off. And he said, oh, as he goes down. And that won't feel good. He said, what? I don't need his crashes. That causes problems.
02:03Oh, boy, Will. And I believe he might be stuck under the motorcycle. Not sure what happened.
02:10Yeah, that was a hard hit from Jalik. Because he started to go double in that corner. And it went down. And the way he was laying there, hate to speculate it, might be a little bit more than being stuck.
02:19But, yeah, we certainly hope not. And we'll get a moment to see what the situation is for the 22.
02:25And it's Ryder DeFrancisco out of Bakersfield, California, inherits the lead. Once one of the great prospects of amateur motocross in America.
02:34There they are. There is Swole. Now up and trying to shake it off.
02:40And being attended to by the Alpine Stars Mobile Medics. It's a series of doctors that follow the racers week to week.
02:46They know the riders. They know the type of injuries common in motocross.
02:51And hopefully Swole will be okay. And we have a replay of the crash for the early race leader.
02:57Yeah, talking about going from the top. Hasn't led a lap all year long. He'll be out front.
03:02Now he's up there. And he can put a little bit of water down. He's going to try to double in this little hip.
03:06John Borough actually loses the front end right there. You can tell they put a little bit of water down.
03:10And I heart this base here at Washougal. Tough hit for Jalik Swole. Didn't look too bad.
03:16But I know how hard this ground is. Bumming for Jalik.
03:20So, James, with DeFrancisco out front, this is a battle that many had anticipated for years.
03:25Deegan and DeFrancisco, Southern California natives. Pretty similar in age.
03:30They came through the amateur ranks. DeFrancisco a year older.
03:33Often one would win one class. One would win the other.
03:37For Deegan, it is absolutely translated to the pro side.
03:40For DeFrancisco, we've seen flashes of brilliance, but not the results.
03:43This is much more like it for the 25, Will.
03:47Yeah, and it's cliche. We say it all the time, right, Jason?
03:50But the start's so important. Talking to Ryder yesterday.
03:53You could see the anxiety on his face when he was even just thinking about it.
03:56He's like, I know that's what I need. All the pieces are there.
03:59Like you said, we've seen pace in fastest qualifiers in past rounds.
04:02And he said, I've just got to get out there.
04:04And he was sitting next to his teammate and the gas-gas team there in Justin Barsha.
04:10And Barsha took over and he said, you've got this.
04:12He said, you just have to calm down and let it happen.
04:15And he just pointed over to his teammate and he's like, okay, that's what I'll do.
04:19He almost went down to that same section that you all did, James.
04:22Yeah, no, I was just thinking about what Barsha said.
04:25That's kind of a kettle calling the pot black on that, but calm it down.
04:29But Justin's been around. He knows what he's meaning.
04:31He's just meaning like, look, man, you've got this speed.
04:33Just let it come to you.
04:34And now you can start to see it in practice.
04:37It's coming to you, but his only problem, so is Hayden Deegan.
04:40He's coming to you right now.
04:42And Deegan already trying to make a move.
04:44They collide.
04:45And somehow DeFrancisco goes down, but Deegan stays up.
04:49Man, you can see that one coming.
04:50And when things are rolling your right way, it just happens.
04:54Hayden Deegan got so lucky right there.
04:57Unfortunately for Roderick, he got the worst in.
04:59But when things are rolling for you, you can escape those kind of crashes.
05:03He crashed, but he stayed on two wheels on that Hayden Deegan that is.
05:07Honestly, James, that is symbolic in so many ways.
05:09So many of the supposed rivals that Deegan has been able to dispose of the last couple of years in his rise.
05:16And also how many times have we seen Deegan with near crashes or spectacular crashes that he quickly gets up from.
05:22And this is another one of those scenarios.
05:24Yeah, this is that 100-foot double that they just built now.
05:27These two lanes now.
05:28Hayden Deegan is going to go on the outside.
05:29And these lines just come together.
05:32And again, Hayden, both these guys got really lucky.
05:35Roderick D goes down, but he got lucky that it wasn't a lot worse.
05:38You can see these lines starting to come together.
05:40Total racing incident.
05:41But as you mentioned, now, since Roderick D, he was out front.
05:46Every lap, he's getting that confidence.
05:48He's on the ground.
05:49So what you're talking about, hey, Deegan, continue to just build.
05:53Roderick D won't have that opportunity because he's in the back now chasing.
05:56There's been so many of those.
05:58They get a hook in him.
05:59It looks like something might be materializing.
06:00And whatever reason, Deegan is able to come out, the better.
06:05Shout out to this rider.
06:07Dylan Schwartz in third of the 44.
06:09This is the Toyota of Redlands Bar-X Yamaha.
06:12They get support from Yamaha, but they are not the official factory team of the special parts.
06:17And this kid is getting better and better every week.
06:19He's always known for his strength and endurance.
06:21But the starts and the early race speed have been on display the last couple of races.
06:25Yeah, and Dylan has had some speed all day long.
06:29I would say this is kind of a breakout ride.
06:31He was second and third in the qualifying today.
06:34So he's getting that confidence.
06:36It's starting to close in on Joe Shimoda.
06:38Good ride to see from Dylan up here up front.
06:41And we mentioned at the top of this show, just before the gate drop,
06:46the starts for the Kawasaki's have been a problem.
06:48They continue to be.
06:49March Banks started around 11th.
06:51He is in sixth.
06:52He's got this rider, Max Voland, the Muckoff FXR Club MX Yamaha,
06:57another Yamaha-supported team.
07:00Voland is running fourth.
07:02Then another one of the triumphs with Austin Forkner,
07:04who's started to show some signs the last couple of weeks.
07:07Another rider, a Deegan rival, a rider with talent,
07:11dissent by injuries, is running fifth.
07:13Then March Banks, the fast qualifier in sixth.
07:15Yeah, and you talk about Austin Forkner, you know, he's at this point,
07:19he's just trying to make every race.
07:20This rider has a lot of injuries.
07:22March Banks made the move on Forkner.
07:24Yeah, Gary's been fast all day long.
07:26So, you know, you talk about different positions where they are.
07:29Being rivals as amateurs coming into pro,
07:31one's been injured a lot, and that's Austin Forkner just trying to make the races.
07:34So, good to see him back up here.
07:36Fortunately for his teammate, he goes down.
07:38But right now, Austin's number one on triumph right now, as far as teammates.
07:42Yeah, Forkner on that 83 to triumph.
07:44His first top 10 of the season was last weekend.
07:47This guy has been through probably more adversity than anyone out here today,
07:52and that says a lot.
07:53In motocross, had a huge crash while battling Deegan for a win in Supercross last year.
07:58Crashed onto the concrete of the stadium floor,
08:01and when they were checking him for concussion protocol,
08:05they discovered blood vessels in his brain that needed surgery not related to the concussion,
08:09but he said it could have resulted in strokes, seizures,
08:13something much more serious than a sports injury.
08:16He has returned from brain surgery in a rebuild year,
08:19and we are starting to see signs of the old Austin Forkner speed last week
08:23with eighth, and even better now, in sixth.
08:27Yeah, it's a great opportunity to have him up here.
08:31Seth Hamaker coming through next, Will.
08:33Yeah, and Seth's battling injury himself.
08:36After last weekend, though, he tweaked his knee.
08:38I checked back in with him today.
08:40Well, he was actually getting taped up from his physio doc.
08:43Gee, ask him how it was.
08:44They got an MRI.
08:45Damage in there is a little bit of meniscus there,
08:49and some bone bruising with a fracture on the top of his tibial plateau.
08:53So nothing that needs surgery, but the tape was substantial.
08:57We were joking that he was using more tape than he had any other time in the year,
09:00because he's also got a shoulder injury going on.
09:03So he is very much looking forward to this two-week break,
09:06as a few riders are, to be able to refresh there and get themselves healthy.
09:10Yeah, thank you, Will.
09:11He knocked the wind out of himself in a moto last week,
09:14recovered from that, only to tweak the knee later in the day.
09:17And that's the story.
09:19Potential for others, and results for Hayden Deegan,
09:22who's flying high and getting away here at Washougal.
09:26Enjoy the sounds of motocross at the break with Peacock.
09:30Let's go.
10:00Let's go.
10:25Oh, my God.
10:55Oh, my God.
11:25Oh, my God.
11:55Oh, my God.
12:09Hayden Deegan, the 19-year-old out of Temecula, California, leading the Fly Racing Washougal National.
12:15Pro Motocross got a 2.6-second lead over Joe Shimoda, and it looks like Deegan James Stewart has this under control, but it's been a story for a lot of the year.
12:24Shimoda lurking, and he does not relent, and he's keeping Deegan somewhat in check in second.
12:30Yeah, we saw Hayden Deegan about a half a lap ago to take a look back.
12:34Joe's still there, and he's actually starting to close, but for those listeners on Peacock, you know, listening to Hayden Deegan's bike, you know, when he rods, he rods mad.
12:44You know what I think about, you know, the old Snickers commercial where the guy has the attitude, they give him the Snickers, he changed back to his person.
12:50Well, Hayden Deegan rods like somebody stole his lunch money, and he hasn't ate for weeks.
12:55He's hungry, he's mad when he rods, and that's his whole attitude, but right now, Joe Shimoda is starting to close that gap, and we know how strong he is at the end of the moto.
13:05Yeah, that's Shimoda's best late in the race on that red Honda, keeping it close.
13:11Hey, we mentioned the SMX Playoffs coming soon.
13:13They offer some of the most unique fan opportunities in sports to get the inside track for the experience of a lifetime.
13:19Go to smxexperiences.com to learn more and become part of the action.
13:24The best part is when you get to be right there near the podium, which is pretty unique to this sport.
13:31Get the champagne shower.
13:34Yeah, you come to the playoffs, you get a lot of things outside of just great racing as well.
13:39Yeah, let's just send Deegan over some of these jumps, you're talking about it.
13:42How he'll rev the bike, coming up on that 100-footer here.
13:47Yeah.
13:47They all rev the bikes, but there's something different about the way it sounds for Deegan.
13:58Sounds like he's mad.
13:59I think he's going to be mad because look at this.
14:06Shimoda just continues to close, and a battle for the lead about to materialize here.
14:11The rider from Japan has caught Deegan.
14:14Yeah, you know, not only is Hayden revving his motorcycle, but I can tell he normally always revs it,
14:19but he's in like a lower gear.
14:21He's spinning up a lot.
14:22But when I hear that bike, especially here at Washougal, he's losing a lot of time because of traction.
14:26So I don't know if he's upset because it's normally how he's riding, but he needs to shift that thing
14:30because Joe Shimoda has the pace going on, and this is a huge confidence for Joe to be able to close him in,
14:35and we're not even halfway yet.
14:37There's the early race leader, Jalik Swole, in the mechanics area.
14:40Good to see he did get back on the motorcycle, but it does look like his race is over.
14:47Crowds starting to respond as they jump back into the valley,
14:50and they realize Shimoda's here to fight for it.
14:54I like that line by Joe.
14:55It's a little bit slower, but as this race goes on, it's going to pay off.
15:00JT.
15:01Well, Joe Shimoda, you see him here closing the gap,
15:03and he's got a couple of things working for him.
15:05You think back, Monsterage Supercross,
15:07who was the only guy to really get aggressive with Hayden Deegan and take the fight to him?
15:12That was Joe Shimoda.
15:13Look at those early rounds of pro motocross.
15:15He was the only guy that could keep him in sight,
15:16and he also knows that Hayden Deegan is less than 100%.
15:20All of that builds confidence,
15:22and that's going to help Joe Shimoda in the latter stages of this race.
15:25That's right, JT.
15:26Deegan took a handlebar to the leg two weeks ago at Red Buddies.
15:29Not a serious injury, but not quite perfect,
15:32and that could be a difference maker here.
15:35Yeah.
15:36Halfway through, just a quick reminder,
15:38James, about 15 minutes to go.
15:40You can purchase Monster Energy at Fred Meyer.
15:42I don't know what's going to happen in these final 15 minutes.
15:45Yeah, well, you just go back a week ago.
15:47Joe was able to do this the first moto last weekend,
15:50so him, he's getting that confidence
15:52to be able to run Hayden Deegan down,
15:53which is rare in itself.
15:55Joe's been able to do that two weeks in a row,
15:57but let's see if he learns from last weekend,
15:59because when does he pass Hayden Deegan,
16:01he didn't drop the hammer, he wasn't able to get away,
16:04and we know how resilient Hayden is.
16:06You let that guy hang around,
16:07you see how mad he is.
16:09You see how loud that motorcycle is.
16:10He never gives up.
16:11There's that brand-new 100-foot jump,
16:15like we said, that is more to the length of an NBA court.
16:18They jump it no problem, and the battle resumes.
16:27Great stuff.
16:30That's what they call Horsepower Hill.
16:31It's going to be a drag race to the top.
16:33What a great drone shot.
16:45Thanks, Chris Buck, giving us the realness of this.
16:47Pretty good.
16:48Now you can tell Hayden Deegan's starting to pick up the pace.
16:51I believe he was kind of waiting for Joe.
16:52He knows at one point, once he was only three seconds
16:55and it was starting to stabilize, he was not going to get away from him.
17:00We learn some of the old tricks of James Stewart every week on this show.
17:03Yeah, you've talked about that a lot.
17:04When you can't get away, you'll almost use a couple laps to rest to prepare for battles.
17:08You've got to prepare for it.
17:09You've got to have enough gas in the tank.
17:11So, no point, you know how long the trip is.
17:13No point of running out of Petro.
17:17And what it does, not only are you resting your body,
17:21but it starts to upset the guy behind you.
17:23They start to get flustered because they're like, man, I caught this guy.
17:27All of a sudden, he started picking a pace, and what that puts Joe,
17:30it makes him have to start picking his pace up.
17:33Now he gets out of that zone where he was really comfortable,
17:35and he might make a mistake.
17:37James, we just saw it play out in that 450 class.
17:40Exactly what was happening.
17:40So, Chase Exxon got out front, Gap stabilized.
17:43He knew Jet Lawrence was going there, and Jet ended up making a mistake.
17:46So, as quickly as Joe got there, now Hayden's starting to pull away.
17:50And motocross, one of the most physically demanding sports.
17:53These riders are probably pulling 160, 180 heart rate for the whole 30 minutes.
17:57But how much of that is mental strategy, confidence waiting and flowing throughout this battle?
18:04It's a lot.
18:05It's really mental.
18:07I mean, the whole story that we're talking about Austin Forkner,
18:10you know, Jaleek Swole, all these guys coming in,
18:12and Hayden has the confidence, and when you have confidence and belief in something,
18:17then these guys can rot.
18:18All of them are very talented.
18:20So, for me, racing is a lot that comes down to mentally,
18:23and it is never about just going as fast as you can.
18:26It's a chess game out there.
18:27And you're watching the best to do it play out in front of you.
18:31Bottom box is Levi Kitchen, the hometown native, looking to make a move on Mikkel Harup,
18:36the rider out of the Danish rider.
18:40And Kitchen, and they're battling hard.
18:43That was a nice pass.
18:45Serve him up.
18:45Serve him up.
18:46Problem for Kitchen again is the bad start, and his record at his home track.
18:53Jason Thomas mentioned top of the show.
18:55He could actually ride his bike from his parents' house to the track,
18:59but his results here are mixed.
19:01Fifth overall last year.
19:02Sorry, in 2023, sixth overall last year.
19:06The problem has been the first motos for Kitchen have been terrible.
19:10Second motos have been much better.
19:11He went 12-4 last year, and once again, he's mired in traffic at his home race in moto one.
19:18And Hayden Deegan beginning to reestablish the lead.
19:23At Washougal.
19:25And Shimoda, now three seconds back.
19:28Yeah, Hayden picked up the pace quite a bit on here.
19:31Now, see if Joe can run with him.
19:33He's been a little off on the pace as far as outright speed with Hayden Deegan.
19:40Deegan took a look back.
19:41Is that a good sign when you look back and you don't see the guy?
19:44Yeah, he wants to know if what he's doing is starting to work.
19:47Otherwise, we've got to go to our next chess move.
19:52Doesn't need it yet.
19:54What's working for Deegan?
19:55See if he can keep it working all the way to the end.
20:01Oh, my gosh.
20:22See him.
23:40Thank you You could film this
23:42in the championship at last
23:44on a 250 for a few days to
23:45try it out.
23:46You want to get people to
23:47excited.
23:48Again, it's probably not
23:51going to be 2026 to see
23:52race on this championship at
23:53least.
23:53Yeah.
23:53There's no point of it
23:55besides exactly to keep
23:56people talking, they do
23:59what they're doing up there
24:00You know, this is what I love
24:03about Hey Deegan, this Joe.
24:03Now he's kind of
24:04dropped off of the pace.
24:05We saw quickly.
24:06Joe closed them.
24:07Hey take up that pace.
24:08you've caught this guy you'll be able to get him around. Hayden picks up that page Joe makes a few
24:12mistakes and he ran at 2.19 that last lap which is two seconds off his best lap time when Hayden
24:17Deegan the lap before ran his best time that's where this rider has got it figured out Hayden
24:23that is mentally he's getting it done. Now a big lead it is impressive how fast they're both going
24:31in the lead they have but we still have to shout out this third place rider this would be the first
24:35ever podium moto finish for Dylan Schwartz out of Alpod California season best is a seventh career
24:42best is a sixth but this has been brewing you see how the results have gotten better
24:47and at Redbud he was in this position he actually had a rock stuck in the sprocket and drive train
24:55of the bike so that result at Redbud two weeks ago was spoiled by that he's been riding well
24:59on the 44 the last couple of weekends and now it might pay off battle behind him March Banks
25:06has taken fourth then it's Forkner then it's Boland and a great fight for that fourth fifth and sixth
25:14spot yeah and Austin just got around Boland too so great to see Austin up in the top five and we
25:21we know his story it's been getting better and better throughout the year this motorcycle has
25:25gotten better and better good to see him up here he's going to have his hands full with Seth
25:29Handmaker, March Banks they're all lurking right now March Banks just ahead there's Forkner got
25:36that neon yellow helmet on the triumph can he hold off Boland number 92 yeah that section's really
25:41slipped we saw Boland almost lose the front end and right behind him you got Austin's teammate
25:47Jordan Smith good to see him up here starting to close that gap and this is what he needs he
25:52needs these guys to battle slow that pace down and maybe Jordan can end up getting around all three
25:56of these guys for a top five
26:01so it's March Banks ahead of these riders he climbed to fourth then this 83 of Forkner's fifth
26:07Boland six Handmaker seven with Smith power up and Forkner running well again for triumph
26:14Swole had that early lead he crashed out last week they had four of the top ten finishers on
26:19that team looking for three out of the top ten here they are definitely putting things together
26:25in their second year racing dirt bikes in America will I got to talk to Jordan Smith about that whole
26:31process a little bit earlier Jason as we see them running in this top ten again and they were just
26:36extremely proud of their work they said the vibe there over and the team is great just seeing the
26:40progress and I asked about what the week looks like and he said we're making fairly bold changes
26:46but it's always let's figure it out let's decide are we running with this no let's get our motos done
26:50so he said the work is still there but they're trying lots of things and he said that sort of process
26:55that they figured out he attributed their success and how much they're moving forward to that he said
27:00because we don't go down an alley we don't sort of go down this path too far we said we're running with
27:05this if we don't if we are we make progress with that setting so that's been their strategy
27:09that certainly is by the way look at the graphics of the bike this is considered the military
27:15appreciation race so a lot of the bikes have a little bit different livery than usual that would
27:20be the case for March Banks who we see has caught Schwartz in a battle for third trying to take that
27:27first ever career podium moto finish away for the 44 yeah Dylan's in trouble right now because if
27:34anybody on this racetrack has figured out how to pass people it's Garrett Marshbank our fastest
27:39qualifier earlier Dylan's doing a good job but I think Garrett either try to square him up nice line
27:44by him blocking him but Garrett's gonna end up getting around and he's been making that time and we know he
27:49has that pace but the starts have been a problem and it seems like every year every weekend we're talking
27:55about Garrett coming up through the pack with the speed but it's always coming up through the back of the
28:00back he has passed over 130 riders this season oh the 100 foot jump Schwartz didn't clear it he came
28:07up short bounced the landing it's 100 foot he came up 99 and a half a little bounce and there you go
28:14Garrett's made that pass now moves his way up into third but still a great ride by Dylan to be in that
28:19top five and been strong this whole moto oh absolutely it's a building process for him and look he wants to get
28:27large base back and maybe he can sit back and you know being up here he knows the pace I mean
28:32his lap times are pretty similar to uh Garrett maybe he can find out some lines
28:38try to stick with him but it's gonna be hard to do with the 36 he's in a role right now
28:45JT by the number 44 Dylan Schwartz unfortunately looks like he may be giving up that podium spot but
28:50this is the building for a few weeks Jason think about that redbud nationally qualifies out of
28:55nowhere in the top three that was kind of the first sign and it's very rare that these riders will put
29:00in a result like this without signs of it beforehand you see him laboring a little bit he's probably
29:06been pushing harder this motor than he ever has before but this is kind of the culmination of
29:11progress that he's shown over multiple weeks and it's great look here for the 44.
29:15and the whole team jt the toyota redlands bar x yamaha squad got a couple other riders who have been
29:20putting in great results as well like the rookie parker ross who is running 12th right now so they're
29:26building something a team that have raised suzuki's for a long time now switch switching to yamaha this
29:31season and it's really taken him the bulk of the year to adjust to that motorcycle but to talk towards
29:37last week in minnesota much happier with the bike and it's showing as for march banks up ahead of him he's got
29:43the vibes cameron hayes who's the grand marshal this weekend a world-class bow hunter and he
29:49found out that march banks is a fan so march banks and eli tomac went out yesterday
29:56shot the bows in a real special ceremony in the center of the racetrack and uh hayes is pretty
30:03impressed at what march banks and tomac were able to do and march banks now up to a podium spot in
30:08third had the good vibes all weekend yeah dropping bows on people dropping bows out here i know who
30:14not if i'm stuck in the woods i want to hang out with garrett or eli they can shoot on their side
30:18yeah i want to be on their side march banks one previous career moto podium uh colorado moto won
30:27this year and again that was a day we had not terrible starts i'd say medium starts and was able to take
30:34advantage of that then moto two had his problems march back speaking for the podium overall today
30:40yeah and that's crazy how good he's been riding only one uh you know podium and he's running third
30:46in the point so it shows you how consistent he has been but all these guys you asked me that
30:52question earlier is this mental and jason said it perfectly you got to start seeing those signs and
30:57then all of a sudden they pop up this really comes down to mentally because these guys haven't just
31:01figured out how to go faster they're starting to believe in each other and what right now george
31:06smith is starting to believe that he can get that top five around his teammate because he's able to
31:10get around bowlin and handmaker now he's right behind his teammate for sixth place yeah i think
31:16they're believing in the bike this is week after week you're seeing the triumphs in the top 10 now
31:20making advances toward the podium top five fortner fifth smith sixth that's them battling with the bright
31:28colors there on the bikes the 83 and the 19 and for the moment at least able to shed hamacre who would
31:38be next in line on that green monster pro circuit kawasaki the 56 and now a lot of traffic for them to
31:44deal with and a reminder second moto's coming up to watch it live on peacock or the smx video pass
31:51outside the united states yeah you see how quickly jordan ran into almost ran in the back of austin
31:59in that corner it almost looks like he was going to run into him again i believe a lot of that was
32:03coming from roost he knows if you get really close to a rider the way their tires the roots comes off
32:08the tire if you get close to him you actually get missed so i think george smith really confident
32:13he's able to catch austin he probably knows he probably a little bit more in shape
32:17than austin because austin's been out and if anybody on the racetrack you want to beat you
32:22want to beat your teammate who's going to be the top triumph the triumphant triumph in this battle
32:29smith the veteran out of belmont north carolina but now all the triumph riders live in georgia
32:34ride train test the motorcycles together there unique things about motocross
32:40that's the best no simulators they're on the bikes during the week replicating this exact battle i bet
32:46you on a tuesday probably doesn't look much different yeah i like what jordan's doing he's going
32:52outsides and and not necessarily trying to pass him but he's trying to make austin think about where
32:56he's at and maybe austin and make a mistake but nonetheless it's still a great ride by the 83 out here
33:02running top five at the end of the moto jordan's gonna have his hands full but i believe if he gets
33:07close to him there's a couple places where he can he's a little bit quicker you might be able to get
33:10his teammate got to use these lappers as almost like a pick and roll if you get close enough to him
33:19still time a lap and a half left hayden deegan has pulled away from joe shimota march banks getting
33:25away from schwartz leading leaving this battle as the closest in the top five to be huge for fortner if
33:33he can get that top five he hasn't had one since ironman in 2023 in a moto yeah when you talk about
33:42jordan smith and how fast he's been he's running the same lap times as the two uh leaders out front at
33:47221s and that's really impressive thinking that he's been making passes and a little bit quicker than
33:53his teammate but austin's doing a great job and knowing where jordan wants to go and blocking that line
33:58making a different form
34:04nowhere to go for smith in that corner no that's it also no you just take a little break
34:11yep didn't have to hustle about one line section now about to head back uphill this skyway jump into
34:18the sand and let's see if jordan can get up he's got to stay close to him because i believe the way his
34:24lines are through the whoops running the outside he stays close to austin i think he'll be able to get
34:29around him with that more momentum by using the outside but austin's doing a great job at
34:34bridging that gap jordan's not close enough now let's see what he does here
34:39meanwhile joe shimota's not close enough anymore either hayden deegan to look over his left shoulder
34:45to make sure he has running room the dominant champion last year the dominant series leader this year
34:54at a track that he's never lost on he'll be back for moto 2 today in about an hour to try to keep
35:01that streak alive you can watch that on peacock as for the nbc show danger boy the sensation delivering
35:07again yeah this gap has been about five seconds this whole moto and i like what joe's doing because
35:15even though he's got 20 seconds between him and garrett marksman push hayden towards the end like you
35:21know if you slow down then hayden's gonna start arresting for that second moto so just you might as
35:26well keep pushing it especially if you believe in your fitness and we know how strong uh joe has been
35:30in the second moto just continue to push him you know you're not gonna beat him but you're gonna keep
35:34pushing him for that next race and you never know what's gonna happen he wins this moto deegan will
35:41tie none other than eli tomac for 11th all time in career moto wins in this 250 class would be the 23rd
35:50moto win of his career and if he continues to win at this clip he's only 19 could become the third
35:59winningest teenager in this class of the history this sport behind oldie you're in there again james
36:06you and our colleague ricky carmichael he can't catch you i got him yep i got him he's gonna gonna run
36:12out of teenage years before he gets that's right yeah even if he did come back to the 256 it'd be 20
36:19so that record is undoable unstewable it's unstewable that record is going to be unstewable for sure
36:26but he's definitely the best of today hayden deegan another moto win in route saluted by the fans here at
36:36washugal danger boy hayden deegan wins moto one
36:46joe shimota pushed it halfway through the race he got to the rear wheel of deegan but couldn't hang
36:52there and he will take second on the honda and another one for the monster energy yamaha star racing team
