00:00If you're itching for more about K-pop demon hunters after this video,
00:02I've got another video over on Nebula about it,
00:04and also some other kids' movies with demons in them.
00:07Sign up with my link and get 40% off!
00:13Not gonna lie, even for a group that doesn't hunt demons,
00:16Huntrix is a killer name for a pop band.
00:18Until heroes arose to defend us.
00:23A-plus hero entrance, A-plus hero outfits.
00:26Final score?
00:27Double A double plus.
00:28With this connection, the first hunters created a shield
00:31to protect our world, the Hun-moon.
00:34Alright, so I guess this is technically a kids' movie,
00:36and I can confirm my kids have watched it, no joke.
00:39Eight times all the way through already,
00:40and that's not counting when it's just Don in the background.
00:42But as an adult, I can say that getting the basic world building out of the way
00:45in less than two minutes is impressive.
00:47There are demons, some look like pilgrims,
00:48Quima is hungry for souls, and three ladies with pretty voices
00:51legit protect you with said voices.
00:53I love the montage of the trios throughout time.
00:5520s, 40s, 60s, and then you'd think this would be 80s, but it's really not.
01:00I think it might be mid-90s, but low-rise pants have me feeling the aughts.
01:03And it checks out, since Huntrix is active 25 years later.
01:07Dust, I'm dust.
01:08My American is showing, but the thing I actually love the most is finding out that
01:10Korea had its own flapper phase.
01:12The golden honeymoon.
01:13Yes, Celine.
01:17And only a little over two minutes, and we're back to the concert,
01:19and the score is shifted back to upbeat.
01:21I don't know why, because she's so cool.
01:23Who else could wear a sleeping bag to the Mac Gala?
01:25Solange in 2017, but I always thought it looked more like a winter coat-inspired dress.
01:29Still, props to Solange and Mira for wearing comfy fashion.
01:31She's the cutest mang-nay.
01:33We're all gonna learn about K-pop together today,
01:35and hopefully the K-pop armies won't flay me if I get stuff wrong.
01:38But mang-nay is the youngest in a group.
01:40And we get to hear Zoey rap these lyrics in a bit.
01:42Well, actually, right now, for you.
01:46The look on everyone's faces, including her opponents,
01:48leads me to believe that Zoey just said some intense stuff clearly about that dude's mom.
01:52It's so scary, like, you better watch out!
01:54And Zoey's my fave.
01:55Sure, Rumi is my hero, but Zoey has my heart.
01:57Rumi's voice is just incredible.
01:59Like, it brings us to tears!
02:02Unironic same?
02:04We'll see how this one goes, but man,
02:06I don't know if I'm just extra emotional or, like,
02:09the moon is in retrograde or mercury in ingress,
02:12but I be feeling this movie.
02:13They're taking a break after this concert,
02:15and they totally need it, but we're gonna miss them so much!
02:18It's insane how accurate that is.
02:20As audience members at a show, you never know when the band is really gonna come on,
02:23so any change in sound or lighting gets this reaction out of the real ones.
02:27Okay, this is our biggest show yet.
02:29The most moves.
02:30Which means the most carb-loading!
02:33There's definitely truth to the insane number of calories you need to perform,
02:36but mostly I like the effort to show pop stars being normal about food.
02:39Well, if you could call this normal.
02:41I'm just glad they left any cigarettes and diet coke jokes out, if you get me.
02:45The three animation shifts in three seconds.
02:47These two flight attendants in the background are so confused
02:49by whatever they're supposed to be doing,
02:50but once the lady holds up the fish, the guy is all,
02:53ah, yes, you got it.
02:55Even if on first glance, it's easy to think the flight attendants are just nervous
02:58because Huntrix is so famous.
02:59Oh, that's so sweet.
03:02It was right here that I was totally hooked.
03:04It's just wholesome, you know?
03:06Feeling a lot of love in the Demon Hunter movie.
03:08They never act too important for their fans.
03:09They love each one.
03:10Yo! I just got this!
03:12Sick.
03:13Perfect reaction from Mira.
03:15Have I mentioned that I love Mira also?
03:16And he really went for it.
03:18Pancake fish stack.
03:18Why do they always interrupt our snacking?
03:21Team, I feel the grass!
03:22Ah, but that's why Zoe's my fave.
03:24You're a demon.
03:24You're smiling all weird, watering plants with coffee,
03:27and those guys? Come on.
03:30Fun way to let us know that overall,
03:31mollywhopping demons is pretty much a snoozefest for heroes of their caliber.
03:35The only ones dying tonight are your...
03:38So, like, you might think these are just cheap gags for kids,
03:40and you're correct!
03:41Because the demons aren't the scariest things ever,
03:43but breaking up the death threats with bodily functions
03:46is always a safe bet to keep the kids in the room.
03:48Side note, the night this was released,
03:49Margot said she wasn't scared, but she was shy.
03:52She was feeling shy.
03:53But soon she was laughing.
03:54It's the crazy eyes, too.
03:56Man, this perfect flying scissor takedown.
03:58And keeping the violence violent,
03:59but behind the chair works for us littles as well.
04:03I appreciate the Korean language lyrics interspersed throughout the songs.
04:06Add some authenticity, and really, it just sounds right, like correct.
04:10The words fit and flow so smoothly.
04:12And while they're starting to fight the demons,
04:14I love that the goal is actually to fill the kettle and get the ramyun cooking.
04:17And Rumi is following the noodle cup rules, which is a must.
04:20Love that they pull their weapons out of the energy strands of the honmun.
04:23They create the honmun with song, and then can turn that into swords.
04:26Heck yeah.
04:30This still might be my favorite song in the movie.
04:33So simple, so catchy, and cutting to outside the windows
04:36for most of the killing in bright backlit colors.
04:40Yeah, this plane's trashed.
04:42You think it's a problem for a second, and then they just jump,
04:44and you realize they're even cooler and more powerful than we imagined.
04:47And just like all other Sony animations,
04:49every few minutes of watching, you'll want to turn the frame into a poster.
04:55I'mma keep it 100 for you.
04:56I have no idea what those words mean,
04:58but that hasn't stopped me from repeating them
04:59every 15 minutes for the last three weeks.
05:01But yes, Mira, if you mean that your kit and vibe is so fire
05:04that it burns at or above 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, I agree.
05:10And it wouldn't be a secret musical without timing stuff to the music,
05:13like Zoey's knife throw and dive.
05:15I've seen some cool stuff, but just imagine if the Spice Girls landed on stage like meteorites.
05:20Actually, I'm kind of surprised they never did that.
05:22Also, like this isn't the first time they've arrived like this.
05:26And like Rumi said, they were there in three.
05:28A few seconds early, in fact.
05:29That's some promise keeping.
05:30And along with them flying in,
05:32even though Zoey just disintegrated that demon,
05:34the fans just think it's part of the show and get more excited.
05:37Hear our voice unwavering,
05:40till our song defeats the night.
05:42And like, I know it's kind of a foregone conclusion,
05:44cause it is a musical about K-pop,
05:47but their voices are astounding.
05:49EJ, who does Rumi's singing voice in particular blows my mind.
05:52There's a lazier version of this movie where they're just demon hunters
05:54who happen to be K-pop stars and the two never mix.
05:57But tying the Han Moon to the courage,
05:59hope and connection they awaken in their fans through their music?
06:02That's inspired.
06:03Some of the demon design actually borders on cute,
06:05and she also seems genuinely terrified,
06:07so we immediately feel at least a little bad for her.
06:09Which is a good way to separate the baddies from the baddie.
06:12Okay, a lot all bad for her.
06:14The tiger is easily a top five character in this movie,
06:16and no, I will not be taking questions.
06:20A demon boy band?
06:21Even having a hunch where it was going,
06:23that pose and then pause absolutely cracks me up.
06:27The soda pop can opening sound when he snaps.
06:29Oh yeah, totally gonna work.
06:31100%.
06:31And they already have fans.
06:33Am I on team demon?
06:34Team on?
06:35The dem team?
06:36Nah.
06:36Demon teaming.
06:37Just to throw a little perspective on this,
06:39Strategy by Twice has 83 million views on YouTube.
06:42The version with Megan Thee Stallion has 100 million plays on Spotify.
06:48Ha.
06:48Well played.
06:49Now we know Twice is cool.
06:51Love you, Rumi, but that's super uncool,
06:53and keeping your intentions a secret kind of plays into one of your
06:56albeit justifiable and understandable character flaws.
07:00Huh.
07:01So it's actually character continuity.
07:03Dang it, she wins.
07:03Couch, couch, couch, couch, couch, couch, couch, couch, couch, couch, couch, couch, couch, couch.
07:10These are my people.
07:12The slouches.
07:13Actual footage of me singing along to Good Luck Babe or Call Your Girlfriend
07:17or Restless Destroyer by Dan Terminus.
07:19Don't try to figure it out.
07:20Believe.
07:22We're going up, up, up, it's our moment.
07:26Okay, maybe Golden is my favorite song.
07:28It's gonna win awards and that's okay.
07:29It's okay to like popular music.
07:31There's a split second moment where you go,
07:33wait, so Rumi has her own dressing room but Mira and Zoey have to share?
07:37A little Destiny's Child sitch going on here?
07:39And then you realize that Rumi just can't,
07:41even though she'd probably much rather be with them.
07:43No more hiding.
07:45Dang, covering up her patterns on the no more hiding line.
07:48You know together we're glowing, gonna be, gonna be golden.
07:51Just these four seconds are possibly the most satisfying piece of music and lyrics in the movie.
07:56The cadence, the way the words bounce along the notes.
07:59Plus, like the song, it's about the golden Han Moon and while Rumi's voice might be the most
08:02important one for the Han Moon, together is when they glow, literally claiming brightness.
08:08Just these two lines and melody could purify a cursed talisman and I have not hated having
08:12it stuck on repeat in my brain for three weeks.
08:14The humor is so well done in this movie.
08:16It's a huge reason why it's so watchable for adults beyond the visuals and catchy jams
08:19and just being a really amazing movie.
08:21Oh, just overall just a great, just a great movie.
08:22It's also, it's also that.
08:24There's not 10,000 fans at the door screaming and sounding really scary.
08:28There's 10,000 fans at the door screaming and sounding really scary.
08:37Definitely not a super creepy song sung creepily by a child with her back creepily to us.
08:42And there's definitely no context you could put this in later that would make me change my mind.
08:46Beautiful lighting, beautiful camera pull, beautiful shot of Rumi running in silhouette from
08:50her golden destiny. And then it clicks why Rumi couldn't afford to take a break before releasing
08:55golden.
08:55I'm sure everything will be fine. Bobby can handle it.
08:58Girls, I can't handle this.
09:00We saw it coming this time and it still lands.
09:02Huntrix don't miss. Ken Jeong don't miss.
09:04We are hunters. Voice is strong. Your faults and fears must never be seen.
09:09No, but that's what we gotta do. We gotta hide it. We gotta hide it and fix it.
09:12Super healthy, but real. Those are real friends.
09:14I see. I see.
09:17Feels like a good time to mention that Healer Han is Jin and Selene is Sun,
09:22and this is now my official headcanon for what happened to them after Lost.
09:25Eagerness to please.
09:27What? I'm not like that. You guys would tell me if I was really like that, right?
09:32Can you imagine? Anyway, please like and subscribe,
09:34and only say nice things about the video in the comments.
09:36The logic here is off the walls, and yet I get it.
09:39Six-pack abs weren't enough to fully express what she was seeing, so eight-pack corn,
09:43which melts the butter which was a butt and then turns into popcorn,
09:45but the best part is that Mira is going through the same experience,
09:48but just has it under control. Her squint.
09:50I also love how she's immediately dismissive of her friends ogling the boys,
09:54until someone who is her type shows up. Feels too real.
09:56They're so bleh. They're so uh-uh-uh.
09:59No, they're uh-uh. They're uh-uh.
10:02A perfect auditory and visual representation of the Lady Doth protest too much, methinks.
10:07The visual gags with the animation squishing and stretching really add a whole other level.
10:11The middle-aged woman getting air-humped 20 feet back is entirely unnecessary,
10:17and the funniest thing I've ever seen.
10:21Look, I bet you were thinking the joke was going to be that I just keep saying
10:24every song is actually my favorite, but guess what? Soda pop? It's fine.
10:29It's actually grown on me in an irritating way, and I do often catch myself humming it,
10:33but it's not my fave. It's still super catchy and the choreo is tight.
10:35But them lyrics do be sound and suggestive though, like in a totally innocuous way,
10:39but it's definitely about what you think it's about.
10:42Zoe is still my fave. She even enjoys her opponent's successes,
10:45because she knows there's nothing to lose but joy in the alternative.
10:48See, this is how you spot a demon, Gumby Legs.
10:51To be fair, that's also something a magician would do.
10:53Zoe's still hoping for the best of these hotties. Fair. It's fair.
10:57Self-care battle cries.
10:58Kill Sajon nails. Show a level of commitment I don't think anyone can compete with.
11:02Let's go kill these guys.
11:06What? That was Zoe. You know it and I know it.
11:08Once they come off the stage, we'll jump down for the attack.
11:10And these boys will be dun-dun-dun.
11:13It's these tiny little blink-and-you-miss-it moments that really make me adore the movie.
11:17The way they all skulk off.
11:18Baby Saja is the winner.
11:21Goo goo ga ga.
11:22I feel like Hot Ones is only a few seasons away from this, and I fully support it.
11:25I've seen Sean not bat an eye talking to Sidney Sweeney one day and Questlove the next.
11:29He could handle an anime demon baby.
11:31We just wanted to stop by and congratulate our hoobes.
11:34Hube means someone with less experience, so it's like calling them the rookies.
11:37In the boss! In the boss!
11:39Yeah, sorry, my inner 13-year-old can't let a crowd chanting,
11:43this not get a win?
11:44Wait, look up.
11:47I can't stop!
11:48Yeah, but that and getting extra sweaty are like the only downsides to full leather dress.
11:52The mother has betrayed us!
11:53Babe!
11:54It was truly an honor to share the stage with you.
11:57And look at that, even these demon hoobes show respect to their sunbees.
12:01Love that even Gino's shirt has the same style patterns.
12:03Have fun!
12:05Between this little slip and the piggyback ride, this is where I knew there was hope for Gino.
12:09Plus, I read a lot of enemies to lovers' romanticy now, so I saw it coming a mile away.
12:17Chivalry is not dead, it's just gonna come from the morally gray MMC.
12:21This is probably my favorite fight scene in the movie.
12:27The camera work that's almost doing that James Wham thing where the wide-angle lens is brought
12:31close to the action, giving us that ultra-fast-paced, almost fisheye effect.
12:34And it's all virtual and digital, making the effect even more fun to look at.
12:38Most everything is pretty mild, but the way the demons collect souls is genuinely frightening.
12:42Don't worry, I'm sure soda pop is just a fad.
12:44These boys will be old news by next week.
12:46Optimism!
12:47Zombie, control those shoulders!
12:50Still my fave.
12:51And ha!
12:52Her turtle plan wasn't a one-off, she's a fan!
12:53700 two-second videos I want you to watch all about turtles!
12:56This is just social media numbers, not the end of the world.
13:01The red glow in the girl's eyes from the failing Hon Moon?
13:03Distract to expose the Saja boys!
13:05And send those disgusting demons back to the depths where they belong!
13:09Eh, it worked for Kendrick.
13:10Yeah!
13:10Yeah!
13:11Yeah!
13:12Yeah!
13:12Yeah!
13:13Intensity!
13:15Delayed intensity!
13:18Not sure about this whole demon thing, I mean they seem like nice people, but loving the energy!
13:23Aww, Bobby is wholesome.
13:24There's some statement about Yes Men and how as a culture we all just go along with whatever
13:28bananas thing the ultra-famous do, but Sabrina Carpenter's clearly been saving us from evil,
13:32so it turns out we were right.
13:33What?
13:34Someone in the for-profit health and wellness industry who isn't a doctor or scientist is also a grifter?
13:39That's just… too unbelievable.
13:41That said, placebo effect is a real thing, just do your best to get it without lighting all your money on fire.
13:50Hands down, best seen in the film.
13:51The pacing and length, the look between Rumi and the bird,
13:54the fact that Derpy Tiger fixates on it despite having a mission to complete,
13:57proving it really is just a cat.
13:59And the whole bit works amazingly to disarm what could easily be the scariest character in the film.
14:03What are you?
14:04But some other questions I have, are you smiling or is that just your face?
14:09Even as they're mysteriously leaving, the cat can't take his eyes off the pot.
14:12Still feels bad.
14:13I'm not sure if the energy weapons created reflect the hunter's emotions,
14:16or if the failing Hon Moon just isn't as blue anymore,
14:19or if this is a sign of Rumi's accelerating demon-ning.
14:22But it's probably one of those?
14:24And they all mean the same thing.
14:25Bad, it's bad.
14:26Love how casual he is as he dodges her swings.
14:28Teddy bears and choo-choo trains?
14:30Really?
14:30Choo-choo.
14:31Ooh, roasting her like it's his job.
14:35And it makes sense, but Genu still has the same beepa 400 years later.
14:38And throwing away the pants he slammed, somebody has a crush!
14:41So sweet, so easy on the eyes, but hideous on the inside.
14:45Nice.
14:46You like it?
14:46Aww, Zoe continuing to confirm what Healer Han said about her people-pleasing.
14:50Glad to see Air Hump Lady has made a full recovery.
14:52Mira and Zoe's overkill always makes me chuckle.
14:54I'ma gear her up and take you down.
14:58And a writing diss tracks, slaying demons and competing with the Saja Boys montage
15:03is the fastest way to get this top five character being a cutie again.
15:06You can never predict the things that will become memes.
15:08So hot!
15:09And respectful!
15:10Join the Pride!
15:12By the way, if you were confused by the Pride stuff, Saja means lion.
15:15They stole Mira and Solange's steez.
15:17I am not sitting with no Saja Boy-
15:19What's up?
15:21Giggle hits me every time.
15:24Are you whispering?
15:28Your secret's safe with me.
15:29It can actually be pretty toxic how much the public invests into possible celebrity relationships,
15:34but this is a fictional movie, so we stan Rujinu.
15:36If hate could defeat Kima, I would have done it a long time ago.
15:39Oof, that's way deeper than it seems and applies to lots of things.
15:44Like Cocomelon, but it's still there.
15:45The internet loves this and the internet is never wrong!
15:49Thank you, I've been saying this.
15:51Here's the pitch.
15:52A cozy adventure spin-off with Bird and Cat.
15:54Delivering messages, eating snacks, and I get to watch it for the rest of my life.
16:01Character continuity.
16:02Best sweater ever.
16:04Even the expression is so Mira.
16:06Mira, I'm not keeping anything from you.
16:09Cat Buddy just wants to hang.
16:10And again, I get it.
16:11She believes her secret's a world-ending deal-breaker,
16:14but the effortlessness with which she lies at this point hurts.
16:17Date? No, ew! What are you talking about?
16:20That doesn't mean...
16:21Ugh, you're so old.
16:22I mean, come on.
16:23Pure romantic-y trope here.
16:24He's 400, she's human.
16:26Honestly, making roomy 28 and not somewhere between 18 and 21 is a breath of fresh air for the genre.
16:31You made a mistake, Chinu.
16:32It's not that simple.
16:33But I am a mistake.
16:35Jeez, KPDH. Another way deeper line than it seems.
16:39Harsh self-talk.
16:40Bracelet for your beautiful girlfriend.
16:42Oh no, she's not even my type.
16:44Excuse me? I'm everyone's type.
16:45Same. It's a curse.
16:46You can't even show up on time.
16:47Were you from the 1900s?
16:48I can see why you're still single.
16:501900s. Dust. Just bury me now.
16:52For what it's worth, I don't think you're a mistake.
16:55Smooth. Kind, but also smooth.
16:58Okay, bye.
16:59Yeah, uh, bye-ee.
17:01Love. And the way he cringes at his own bye-ee.
17:06Look, my old is about to show again, but I just can't get on board with the chunky tennis shoes.
17:10And it's probably a good thing since at my age of 78 I can no longer wear them, ironically.
17:14I'd just be enjoying the back support. Solid win.
17:16What are you hiding from us?
17:18Not everything is about your insecurities, Mira.
17:20Mira, I didn't mean-
17:22Oh snap! The immediate regret.
17:24Oh snap, for a different reason. That's hella creepy.
17:27Ooh, now there's a thumbnail.
17:29Ultimately, you'll all decide through your clicks and watch time, but it'll be an option.
17:32Bet you didn't know the power you held, did ya?
17:33That line translates to, I lose my mind and trample on you and carve a knife into you,
17:41which is rough because it's obviously about the demons, but it feels like Mira is pointing
17:45her anger at Rumi.
17:45A demon with no feelings don't deserve to let her get so obvious.
17:50And now Rumi is singing about Jinnu and herself.
17:53Also love that even though they decide not to use the song, we still get to hear it in this sneaky way
17:57while they take down some demons. Although she doesn't finish the line and she herself gets taken
18:04down. Also, I feel like somebody should probably mention how killer and well choreographed the
18:08fight scenes are in this film. It's not going to be me because I'm too distracted by the love story
18:12and music, but someone will get on it, I'm sure of it. They should also point out that Mira is a
18:15badass when they get to it. Why does the bird wear a tiny hat? I made it for the tiger, but the bird
18:21keeps taking it. That explains nothing and also everything at the same time. And I was only kidding
18:26about it being a pilgrim hat. It's actually a cot, a traditional hat that used to be worn by noblemen,
18:30which checks out since Jinnu is like four centuries old. But it's especially cute when you realize the
18:34bird just wants to match his buddies. And the more I talk to you, I don't understand it, but somehow
18:40my voice is healed. Hey guys, it's almost like love and connection are what keep out the darkness
18:45that's creeping into your soul. Sheesh, catch up characters in the movie that's explicitly teaching
18:49us that lesson. Nice reminder that she's just hiding her arms, he's hiding his true form. And cot.
18:53What does it feel like? I can tell you anything. Welp, now they've got me. Duets with harmonies
18:59are my kryptonite, and this is my new fave. We could be free, free. And I know Rumi said that
19:07this has healed her voice, but this duet with Jinnu is the first time she actually hits those high notes
19:11again, which was what the patterns were affecting. But is it a C6 sharp? Is that possible? Can EJ hit that
19:16note? It might just be an instrument tricking me. I know she hits an A5 in Golden. And when you listen to
19:20this on Netflix, the mix is a little different and it's a little more pronounced. I don't know.
19:24It's high. Let the past be the past till it's weightless. Floating and singing that line hits
19:30hard, especially coming off of Rumi singing about healing what's broken, and all Jinnu can sing
19:34about is being free, since he still hasn't been honest about his past. Woof. I don't hear his voice.
19:40And it checks out, because if her voice strengthens the Hanmoon, it would block out Gima for Jinnu when he's
19:44with her, especially if he's also singing. It's funny. I thought for a moment, you actually
19:49believed you could be free. Squid Game. That's it. Finally realizing that Kima is the frontman
19:54Lee Pyonghun. I knew this skill would pay dividends. An hour in and we're just now finding out that
19:59Derpy Tiger can fly and riding the tiger is an option? Dio would be proud. Also Falcor vibes,
20:05but I also love how this is evidence of Rumi's further softening to Jinnu. Before I joined Huntrix,
20:09I felt like my thoughts and my lyrics and all my notebooks were just useless. But with the two of
20:14you, they mean something. Friendship. I love you, Zoe. I swear if I ever even see this little ray of
20:20sunshine upset again, I will burn this place to the ground. Maybe go to the bathhouse together? What?
20:25You mean the women's bathhouse, not the men's? I will fight for a spa day with you. Find you some
20:29friends who will fight for your relaxation. Every snowflake is special, but one snowflake is probably the
20:36best. That probably really drives that point home. We win this, and then we celebrate the season of
20:41the corn dogs. Gacha, gacha, gacha! Yay! Gacha, gacha, gacha! I thought without even looking it up,
20:45I knew that gacha meant let's go. I mean, I did look it up to be sure, but the way Mira says it made it
20:49pretty clear. It's probably obvious that I don't know a ton about K-pop, but these dance moves are
20:54feeling pretty dang accurate, and I'm always a sucker for the, hey, that lady has an incorrect number of
20:58arms. It's like one of my faves. I kind of feel that line. Not because I was a problem child,
21:07but school wasn't always for me. Look at me now! I love how the usual blue Huntrix,
21:12whatever those things are, turned golden during the song. Plus the shallow focus on Rumi and the
21:16bokeh lights all around her. I also really enjoyed that the first single we hear, the chorus is done,
21:25done, done, and now the single that they feel really exemplifies them is up, up, up. And yes,
21:29you're correct. In my head, it was down, down, down, but done, done, done is beautiful works.
21:32It still works. Oh, hey, never mind. The stress after hearing her struggle with those notes
21:44earlier, and they do go pretty high. Well, that's just not nice and not true,
21:51but even more heartbreaking that it's definitely something Rumi believes about herself. Again,
21:54using little things like her hair having flyaways and her hunched posture. Not to be all edgy,
21:59but Rumi looks way cooler with the patterns. And I like the implication that they aren't mad
22:10that she's got patterns. They just can't trust her, and that's a big deal for them. Granted,
22:14you don't owe anyone your secrets, but there was definitely a better way to go about this.
22:17I can still fix it! But the dark shift in her voice really not helping her point.
22:22Ooh, Mira? Sure, makes sense. It's kind of her whole thing. But Zoe?
22:27Zoe? I don't think I'd recover. But I can tell my girl's heart isn't really in it.
22:31Dang, the melancholy cello version of Golden? All we get to do is live with our pain,
22:42our misery. That's all we deserve. Shadow Daddy says what? Amazing what one yellow
22:47eye with an oblong pupil does to make her look unhinged and evil. You couldn't keep them together.
22:52You're all alone, but you don't have to be. Aww, Bobby. Nobody cares, but aww, Bobby.
22:58The sneaky single frame of their demon forms? You thought you found a family? You don't deserve one.
23:04You never have. Kinda stings even more the idea that Gima is just the negative voice inside our heads?
23:10You're too much and not enough. To the ground. Do it!
23:16Emperor Palpy ain't got nothing on Ruman. See what I did there? It's Rumi and demon. I hate it too.
23:22Ruman. Demumi, there it is. We can cover those up and put everything right again.
23:26The fact that she's saying that and covering Rumi's shoulders while the patterns are glowing on Rumi's
23:31face really puts a harsh spotlight on her perspective. Sometimes the parts we don't
23:34want people to see become too obvious to hide and Selene's commitment to denial feels very real.
23:39Why couldn't you love me? I do. All of me! And a million tears all fell at once from everyone who has ever
23:45believed there were parts of them that were unlovable. It's so cut and dry here because who could love
23:50the demon part, but that's the point. That's how both sides see it. The heartbreak and just
23:55raw vulnerability here. Rumi's got horns now, but she's never felt more human.
23:59This is the horn moon I'm supposed to protect. I'm glad to see it destroyed.
24:05Kinda love how ominous and evil that comes out when actually her intentions are totally pure and good.
24:09Yeah, you gave me your heart, now I'm here for your soul.
24:12Let that be a lesson to you that we learned the hard way. If you give your heart to the Backstreet Boys,
24:16Nick Carter eventually comes for your soul. Look, I'll never be fully team on demon teaming,
24:22but the demon forms and costumes go hard and it works for the track. And this song probably doesn't
24:26get the credit it deserves since the lyrics are about burning our world and how no one will save
24:30us and we'll be forced to worship them but also be a part of them. And also they literally teleport
24:34around the arena and are clearly demons. We are hunters. Voice is strong. Hey look, it's me eating my
24:40words as she sing talks the song she was singing for Selene while being failed by her guardian and not
24:44learning to love all of herself. Also, maybe it's obvious, but I miss what was actually happening
24:48here the first time. They're all about to walk into Kino's fire and lose their souls. Rumi shows
24:53up and saves the entire... it's not all of Seoul, that's almost 10 million people. All of Youngson
24:58District? A couple hundred thousand? You think you can fix the world? You can't even fix yourself.
25:04Dang. Low blow key. There's evil and then there's just plain mean. And the whole moon is gone.
25:10It is. So we can make a new one. Love how with her resolve snapping into place,
25:16so do her human eyes. I don't know why I didn't trust you to be on my side. Oh boy,
25:23I won't cry this time. I've already seen it. I know what happens. There's no reason to cry.
25:27It's just some vulnerable honesty snapping her two besties out of their trance as tiny little
25:31Han Moons form inside their souls first. My voice without the lies, this is what it sounds like.
25:38Oops. Disgusting and terrifying.
25:43Fucking good. We broke into a million pieces and we can't go back.
25:48Now all three of them are singing that line together because not only did their group break and they
25:52can't go back, but also because being a demidemon isn't the only thing that makes people broken and
25:56sharing that with people you trust and who love you can actually be extremely healing. And just because
26:00you can't go back doesn't mean you can't march forward. But like, let's just talk about this
26:04song. It starts with Rumi singing almost acapella, being vulnerable and honest, alone, and slowly
26:09builds, adding in the two people she wished she'd trusted to be on her side because they would have
26:13been, and then by the end it's an entire chorus singing along with them. Is this my new favorite?
26:18Julia and I actually talked about it this morning and this wins best song slash scene in the movie.
26:23Whether it's the best song doesn't matter right now. And the harmony's on the line about harmony
26:27that ends in the blend of their voices and notes so perfect that literally tickles the back of my
26:31brain. I'll find your harmony. This is what it sounds like. Now Kima has identified the real threat,
26:40the one that's coming for him. So he pulls back the mystic demons from fighting with Mira and Zoe
26:44and channels them into this beam to destroy Rumi. I wanted to set you free. You did. You gave me
26:50my soul back. And now I give it to you. So much going on here because Rumi is going
26:55up against the big bad and losing, but she's still prepared to die trying to stop him. And
27:00then Genu steps in and full on self-sacrifices for her. And after all the triumph of tears,
27:04my eyes are now on fire from the self-sacrifice tears. Also, did you notice that throughout this
27:08entire scene, Genu is in his demon form with his yellow demon eyes, but when he saves Rumi,
27:12he shows her his human eyes? Subtle matchup of the new song and the gorgeous melody from the
27:22bridge of golden and the ultimate dream, the entire crowd singing together for you.
27:26No more! Wow, that's how you know she was serious.
27:36And I'm always a fan of when they don't even need to use violence, just their voices are enough to
27:40send Kima back. I mean, except for the Saja voice. By the way, if you're wondering why Huntrix doesn't
27:44get charged with murder, everyone there was in a trance. So the entire thing probably feels like
27:48an insane fever dream, but also they set it up earlier. Guy in the demon suit exploding into
27:52confetti. Those special effects looked amazing. Yeah, special effects. They all exploded in red
27:58sparkles and disappeared. Clearly special effects. Also love that the byproduct of defeating the baddies
28:03is that they got to play the biggest show of their lives. Wow, this feels amazing. We've been saying
28:08that for years. Right? It does look relaxing. I guess I got to check out a woman's bathhouse.
28:13The men's ones seem angry and demon-y. You guys just mean so much to me. Zoe's still my fave.
28:20She's the one who opens the floodgates for the rest of them. And us. Couch, couch, couch, couch, couch.
28:26Of all the relatable things happening in the pop star demon slaying movie, their love of couch is top
28:30of the list. I thought I wanted couch, but I think couch can wait. Never mind, but headcanon is that they couch
28:36later. Also Rumi introduced Derpy Tiger to my girl Zoe? Their own movie. Okay, so somehow when Miro was
28:41eating the popcorn from the bucket, it didn't seem gross, but right from the eyes? I mean, I would,
28:46but still. See, now they couch. And Rumi took her teddy bears and choo-choos out of the trash.
28:53The fun fact, this is twice singing their version of Takedown. I knew they were cool. This is one of
28:57those movies where the likelihood that I missed your favorite scene is pretty high. Because every scene
29:02has something to offer. Barking mystery Saja. Shadowzaddy Geno's intro song. Now all he does is
29:09starve. And will he let the fire go out? Pretty much every line from Mira. How is this helpful? It's
29:16helping me a lot. If only I could smash her demon face in right now. Thanks for coming. This duck stuffy?
29:22All the golden light beams in the golden music video. Every line from Zoe? No more relax-y time. I'm so happy you didn't
29:29like, die. I might as well just tear these off. Or how about how Geno only wears earrings when he's
29:36pretending to be a boy band human. And when he's alone with Rumi, he doesn't have the earrings. And
29:40then in the end, his earrings match Rumi's symbols. Oh, and he's also wearing the bracelet that the
29:43nice lady gave to Rumi and then Rumi gave to him. I don't know. It's all of it.
29:52Something I didn't realize until it was pointed out to me is how mostly unsexualized Huntrix is,
29:57which makes total sense and should be a foregone conclusion in the kids movie,
30:00but they clearly went to great lengths with their outfits, letting them very often wear comfy hoodies
30:04and sweats. The interesting part is that from the very first second the Sawjaw boys are on screen,
30:09it's abs. And while it's funny, I think it also gives young men a chance to connect with our
30:13protagonists in a way that drawing them more for the male gaze might hinder. I don't know,
30:17don't quote me on any of it. I'm not saying that finding a protagonist attractive blocks the ability
30:21to like commiserate with their struggles. I just, I like it, okay? Actually, I love pretty much everything
30:26about this movie. The story, the humor, the music, the acting, every piece is top-notch,
30:31and based on how every single person I know is talking about it, I think it might be getting a
30:34sequel. While it feels like a complete story, there's still a lot of unanswered questions,
30:38and come on, come on. Genio ain't dead. Bruh, come on. But actually, I have more to say about this
30:44movie. Specifically, it's evil evilness and how to protect your kids from it. And also from Coraline,
30:48Kubo and the Two Strings, and Najah. Or maybe just more about why kids' movies love to have some
30:53demons in them. I made a whole other exclusive video about that over on Nebula. And you can watch
30:57it right now by signing up with my link and get 40% off an annual plan. But that's not all. I have
31:02a bunch more exclusive videos on Nebula as well as every single one of my other videos, some even
31:07extended versions, ad-free, uncensored, and without ad reads. But surprisingly, I'm not the only creator
31:12there. Honestly, the best creator on Nebula is no AI slop. Okay, so maybe not a creator so much as a
31:18feature that other platforms are severely lacking right now, but jet lag is coincidentally in South Korea
31:23right now, and that's always a rollicking good time. Amy's Dead End Dream House is out tomorrow,
31:27or literally right now if you waited a day to watch my video, or if I published it on Sunday,
31:31which is probably what happened. It's a brand new kids' show for adults from Maggie Mae Fish that is
31:36absolutely hilarious. And there's so much more to check out, especially if, again, can't stress this
31:40enough, you won't get tricked into watching something that is low effort AI garbage. So sign up with my
31:45link or click the little box over here or in the description and come watch my Demon Kids video.
31:49Well, that's not exactly correct, but you get me.
31:59I give it to you.
