00:00Listín Diario presents Sunday Reflections.
00:30It really matters.
00:31People are no longer satisfied with superficiality, with what lasts two minutes on social media,
00:36or with the info junk that floods the web.
00:39They want to understand the whys and wherefores of things.
00:42It's no longer enough to simply explain how it happened.
00:46Let's take an example.
00:47If the government passes a new law, readers are more interested in knowing how it will
00:52seriously affect them, even in things that aren't visible at first glance, beyond the
00:57announcement.
00:58That's what a good analysis, a report that puts things in context, or a well-done investigation
01:03are for.
01:04That's where we hit the mark.
01:05The problem is that digital platforms are news machines that churn out news in a flash.
01:10And we, journalists, have little time to provide that missing context.
01:14But if a media outlet invests heavily in an investigative team, or people who know how
01:19to process relevant information well, that's our trump card.
01:23That valuable content is what can save us.
01:26And the best part is that it doesn't just stay on paper.
01:29It can be recycled on the web, on social media, in videos, in everything.
01:34Of course, to do that we need to invest more in technology and in people who know how to
01:38handle audiovisual media.
01:41That's how we get the most out of what we produce.
01:43If the newspaper remains stuck in the past, copying press releases or publishing only the
01:48bare news, it has no chance.
01:51The digital and technological monsters will eat us alive.
01:55That way, no one can be held back.
01:58And beware.
01:59There's another phenomenon.
02:01While some people look for news online, almost as many people avoid it.
02:05They don't care about the platform.
02:07They don't want to hear about the news.
02:09This reality forces us, no matter what, to innovate and find a way around it, so that print users
02:14continue to feel that we're worth reading.
