The Trump administration's decision to seek the release of grand jury transcripts but not Justice Department files comes after a recent article by the WSJ reported on an alleged birthday greeting by the president for convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2003.

00:00The U.S. Justice Department has requested a federal court to unseal grand jury transcripts
00:06related to the case of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
00:10The Justice Department will, however, not be releasing the thousands of pages on the case
00:14currently in its possession which it can make public without requiring approval or a formal process.
00:20It comes after the Trump administration face mounting pressure to release evidence on the Epstein case
00:25and fulfill one of the U.S. president's campaign promises.
00:28An article detailing the U.S. president's relationship with the disgraced financier
00:33has raised suspicion that Trump may be personally implicated and thus choosing to withhold evidence.
00:38Trump has slammed a Wall Street Journal article claiming it's false, malicious and defamatory.
00:43He's also announced on social media that he's suing the outlet and media mogul Rupert Murdoch
00:48for $10 billion citing overwhelming financial and reputational harm.
