00:00Everywhere is war.
00:04Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at the SNL moments that sparked backlash or triggered people.
00:10Did you miss me?
00:13Mudang News Skit.
00:14During a weekend update segment, comedian Bowen Yang dressed up like the baby hippo Mudang to humorously lament the downside of sudden fame.
00:21For the past 10 weeks, I've been going non-stop.
00:25Running around, eating lettuce, trying to bite the hose from a water, the water from a hose.
00:31It didn't end there.
00:32The comedian took it up a notch by linking Mudang's viral popularity to pop star Chapel Roan's.
00:37It was a swing at satire, but it landed awkwardly for some viewers.
00:40Critics felt it was mocking Roan's struggles, especially since she backed out of a festival to focus on her well-being.
00:45And trust me, I know I would not be in this position without my fans, my community, my Mudang boo-things.
00:54While some labeled it outright offensive on X, others felt the sketch actually supported leaving celebrities alone.
01:00In a surprising twist, Roan herself later called the sketch a, quote, harmless joke.
01:05Turns out people didn't have to be so mad on her behalf.
01:10The Depp-Herd trial parody.
01:12While Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were locked in their messy defamation trial, SNL jumped right in with a sketch that didn't hold back.
01:18Look, I know it's not the most pertinent story of the moment, but with all the problems in the world, isn't it nice to have a news story we can all collectively watch and say, oh, glad it ain't me.
01:29Styled like live courtroom footage, it featured actors playing Depp, a judge, and their lawyers.
01:34In the hands of these actors, real allegations of abuse and trauma were reduced to an infamous poop-in-the-bed incident.
01:40There you have it. They found the dookie.
01:44Objection! Your Honor, that is pure speculation.
01:48Overruled. I'd like to see more of this video.
01:52Why?
01:53Because it's funny.
01:55Naturally, the internet flared up.
01:57Some slammed it for turning a serious case into a joking matter, while others even accused it of blatant bias against Heard, who wasn't even depicted.
02:05With a trial this public and intense, turning it into a comedy sketch was bound to attract controversy.
02:10SNL probably knew what they were doing.
02:13Either way, I'm just so glad this ain't me.
02:15And live from New York, it's Saturday night!
02:21Charmin Bears.
02:22How wild is it that SNL dropped Charmin Bears just months after a YouTuber did almost the same thing?
02:27Honey? Everything okay?
02:29No itches, no scratch. My booty feels so snatched.
02:36In July 2022, Joel Haver uploaded an animated video about a blue cartoon bear wanting to ditch the family's toilet legacy to pursue theater.
02:44I just feel like I have so much more to offer.
02:47Wiping your butt is one of the best things you can do as a bear.
02:50Fast forward to October, and SNL aired a sketch with a suspiciously similar premise with just minor differences.
02:56You are the first member of this family to go to college, and you are getting that BFA.
03:01I don't want a Bachelor of Flushing Arts.
03:04Well, I don't care what you want.
03:06While others saw it as just another SNL sketch, Haver's fans were quick to call it out.
03:10The backlash grew, especially since SNL has a not-so-great track record with plagiarism claims.
03:16Haver took the high road, saying it could just be a coincidence or subconscious inspiration, not a malicious theft.
03:22Hard to believe, right? Some viewers probably still don't buy it.
03:25Honey, you're crying.
03:27Yeah, my son is a dancer.
03:29Temple Horses plagiarism controversy.
03:31In 2019, New York-based comedy duo Temple Horses, Nick Ruja and Ryan Hoffman, accused Saturday Night Live of lifting ideas from their sketches.
03:40The first was their 2014 sketch featuring a pumpkin owner confronting customers about their inappropriate behavior with his pumpkins.
03:46Guess who rolled out a sketch with a similar premise four years later?
03:49I cannot believe I have to ask you this, but did you perform a lewd act with some of our pumpkins last night?
03:59No.
03:59No, sir.
04:01Yep, SNL.
04:02But that wasn't all.
04:04The pair also claimed that SNL's pound puppy sketch resembled their 2011 sketch.
04:08Both ideas present a fictional product that shields the eyes of pets during their owner's intimate moments.
04:14Once inside, you can go to town and your dog will just think there's a much larger dog in the room with him.
04:20When Ruja and Hoffman's lawyer sent a letter to NBC highlighting the similarities, NBC claimed the ideas had been independently developed by writers.
04:28Just another uncanny case of parallel thinking, right?
04:30Your dog will smile while you doggy style.
04:34Available in the adult section of Petco.
04:36The Menendez trial.
04:38Just like with the Depp-Herd trial, SNL couldn't resist jumping on the Menendez brothers' case while public interest was still high and emotions still raw.
04:46Now, is it true your father never allowed your other two brothers, Danny and Jose Jr., out of the house?
04:55Yes.
04:56And that he never allowed them to go to school?
04:59Yes.
04:59Never had them in family pictures or mentioned them to friends?
05:03Yes.
05:04The sketch features John Malkovich as Lyle and Rob Schneider as Eric, while Mike Myers plays a TV reporter.
05:11In it, Lyle comically retracts his confession and blames the murders of his parents on imaginary brothers.
05:16So, would you please tell the court what happened to your brothers Danny and Jose Menendez Jr.?
05:22Sure, it was meant to be funny, but to some, it was cold and tasteless.
05:30Critics felt the sketch trivialized a sensitive issue that had to do with brutal murders and prolonged abuse.
05:35In 2024, the controversy flared again when SNL poked the Menendez brothers story anew, which some found distasteful yet again.
05:43They don't know when to quit, do they?
05:44We thought people would see two doctors and start banging pots and pans together for us, like, during the pandemic.
05:50Instead, people keep yelling things like, you're innocent and you're so hot.
05:54The White Lotus parody.
05:55A joke might seem harmless, but when you're the target, it can hit pretty hard.
05:59In April 2025, SNL aired a political parody on HBO's hit show The White Lotus, but one part didn't sit right.
06:06Hello? Earth to Donald? It's your wife Melania, are you okay?
06:14Huh? Oh, yeah, yeah, sorry, I...
06:17In it, Sarah Sherman plays Amy Lou Wood's character Chelsea with ridiculously large fake teeth and an over-the-top British accent.
06:24What if we took all the fluoride out of the drinking water?
06:27But what would that do to people's teeth?
06:29Fluoride? What's that?
06:31Even for SNL, it felt like a cheap shot. Wood did not find it funny.
06:35She took to her Instagram story to call the sketch mean and unfunny.
06:38Fans rallied behind her and the backlash began.
06:41Eventually, SNL apologized and Sherman sent flowers to Wood.
06:44But still, maybe next time, leave people's features out of comedy.
06:48Especially when they've openly shared how sensitive it is for them.
06:51No! Not the monkey!
06:54Alec Baldwin vs. The Scouts
06:56Canteen Boy was a recurring SNL character in the 90s, played by Adam Sandler as a clueless man-child who never outgrows the Boy Scouts.
07:04Canteen Boy, come over here!
07:06Hang on a sec, fellas.
07:07Fellas, I got a bit of a situation over here.
07:10You can relax, Canteen Boy. That thing's made of wood.
07:13So it is.
07:17During one Valentine's Day episode hosted by Alec Baldwin, things got weird.
07:22Baldwin plays Mr. Armstrong, a Scoutmaster who flirts and makes suggestive moves toward Canteen Boy, all played for laughs.
07:29I'm sorry, Canteen Boy. My beard is scratchy, isn't it?
07:34No harm done.
07:36Some viewers were creeped out by it, turning off the show mid-air.
07:39Even the Boy Scouts of America blasted it for making light of abuse.
07:42A disclaimer now appears in reruns of this sketch, clarifying that Canteen Boy is actually 27.
07:48But for some, it's still a sour note.
07:50Even goofy jokes don't sit well, especially when they seem to tiptoe into predatory territory.
07:55Hey, you know what? The park ranger just called. He said, one camper per sleeping bag. Sorry. Adios, Amigos.
08:03God, you make me laugh, Canteen Boy.
08:07Wayne's World vs. Chelsea Clinton
08:09SNL has taken plenty of shots at Hillary Clinton over the years, but one sketch crossed a line she couldn't ignore.
08:15In a 1992 episode, Wayne and Garth listed the top 10 things they liked about Bill Clinton.
08:20Okay, number 10. All right? Universal health care. I don't know. It just seems to make sense in these days.
08:27Right.
08:27One entry stood out for all the wrong reasons.
08:30This item named Chelsea basically made fun of the then 12-year-old Chelsea Clinton by implying she wasn't much to look at.
08:36It was mean-spirited and inappropriate, sparking instant backlash.
08:40Hillary even penned a letter to SNL creator Lorne Michaels expressing her disapproval.
08:45Mike Myers later wrote a letter of apology and the joke was removed from reruns.
08:49It sucks donkey.
08:50It sucks rhino.
08:52It sucks woolly mammoth.
08:54Taking a shot at a public figure is one thing, but dragging their child into it? That's just low.
08:59The nude beach.
09:00Way back in 1988, SNL aired a sketch that pushed the boundary of what was acceptable on TV at the time.
09:06Uh, come on. Is this great or what, huh?
09:10I don't know. I feel a little self-conscious, Bob. I mean, I've never been to a nude beach before.
09:15Doug, come on. Will you stop with this? You have nothing to worry about.
09:19In the sketch, Matthew Broderick plays Doug, a newcomer to a nudist beach who feels self-conscious about his body.
09:25Meanwhile, other characters casually and repeatedly comment on each other's genitalia.
09:29So, Doug, where are you from?
09:31Montpelier, Vermont.
09:33Ooh, cold up there. Must be tough on your penis, huh?
09:36The sketch even ends with a humorous song, repeating a certain word over and over.
09:42It was bound to ruffle some feathers, and it did.
09:44SNL reportedly received 46,000 letters, largely driven by a Christian non-profit group's campaign.
09:51The fallout didn't stop there.
09:52The uproar also cost SNL major advertisers, proving once again that pushing buttons comes with a price.
09:58So, to those of you who missed the point, grow up. Really. Come on.
10:02The Claudine Langez Invitational
10:04SNL didn't start pissing off people today.
10:07It's been stirring the pot since 1976, barely a year after the show debuted.
10:11Well, we certainly have a beautiful day for it, Tom.
10:14Right you are, Jessica.
10:15One of its earliest scandals came from a sketch poking fun at Claudine Langez,
10:19a French pop star accused of shooting her boyfriend, a ski legend.
10:22In this sketch, skiers tumble down slopes while Saturday Night Live announcers
10:26jokingly blame each fall on Langez's accidental shots.
10:30He's a little...
10:31Uh-oh. He seems to have been accidentally shot by Claudine Langez.
10:35Around that time, Langez had just received a 30-day sentence for accidentally killing Spider Savage.
10:40The public was outraged, and SNL dove right into the drama.
10:44Langez's lawyer did not find it funny.
10:46He sent SNL a cease and desist letter,
10:48and the sketch show was forced to offer its first on-air apology.
10:52Oh, well, this has been Tom Tymon,
10:54and Jessica Antlerdance.
10:56Here in Vail, Colorado, at the Claudine Langez Invitational.
10:59Ski shooting, that's very funny.
11:03The rise and fall of Shane Gillis.
11:05Most of you probably have no idea who I am.
11:08I was actually...
11:10I was fired from this show a while ago,
11:14but if, you know, don't look that up, please.
11:17The stand-up comedian and podcaster
11:19definitely wasn't the first SNL cast member to be fired from the show,
11:22even before ever appearing in an episode.
11:25But it's safe to say that he's the most prominent.
11:27I probably shouldn't be up here, honestly.
11:29I should be home.
11:30I should be...
11:31I should be a high school football coach.
11:34That's what I should be.
11:35Slated to appear alongside Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman
11:38ahead of SNL's 45th season premiere in 2019,
11:42Gillis was quickly ejected from the cast
11:44following accusations of making racist remarks
11:46on a podcast appearance a few years earlier.
11:48Gillis' comedy career didn't suffer permanent damage,
11:51and he was even invited to host SNL
11:53during its 49th season in 2024.
11:56You know how, like, uh...
11:58You know how, like, when a woman's biological clock is ticking,
12:01she sees, like, a baby in a stroller,
12:02and is like, oh, my God, you're a baby...
12:04Like, that's how I am if I see, like, a big 15-year-old.
12:07I'm like, oh, my God, look at the size of that kid.
12:10Tim Tebow, Jesus, and everything in between.
12:13Hi, everybody.
12:13Oh, Jesus!
12:15He has risen!
12:16No, no, no, not really.
12:17Just a quick visit, so, uh...
12:19Hey, everybody take a seat.
12:20Go ahead, take a seat.
12:21Chill out.
12:21If you'll recall,
12:22the former Denver Broncos superstar's signature move
12:25is literally kneeling in prayer.
12:27This made him a ripe target for SNL,
12:30which poked fun at the quarterback's
12:31devout Christianity in 2011.
12:33The sketch itself was fairly tame,
12:35with cast member Jason Sudeikis
12:37portraying a version of Jesus
12:38visiting the Broncos' dressing room.
12:40Yes, I, Jesus Christ, am indeed the reason
12:42you've won your past six football games, okay?
12:45I knew it!
12:46Whoa, Tim, easy, easy.
12:47However, the response from the Christian community
12:50was far from gracious.
12:51Veteran televangelist Pat Robertson
12:53and Fox News analyst Bob Beckel
12:55were among those who criticized the comedy show
12:57for its perceived blasphemy.
12:59Expanding on the issue,
13:00Beckel opined that, quote,
13:02there's nothing funny about commercializing Christianity.
13:05I'm serious, man.
13:06Matt Prater, I pray to you, brother.
13:08Wow, you pray to me?
13:10I didn't know that.
13:11Well, yeah, you know, uh...
13:12That's because I'm not in everyone's face about it.
13:15Woody Harrelson uses SNL as a soapbox.
13:18Leaned against a tree
13:19and started to read the craziest script.
13:23Okay, full disclosure,
13:25I smoked a joint first.
13:27The outspoken multiple Oscar nominee
13:29is no stranger to controversy.
13:31Once arrested in Kentucky for planting hemp seeds,
13:34it might not come as a total surprise
13:36that Harrelson found himself the subject of backlash
13:38following remarks made during his 2022 SNL monologue.
13:42The biggest drug cartels in the world
13:45get together and buy up all the media
13:47and all the politicians
13:49and force all the people in the world
13:51to stay locked in their homes.
13:53The actor and former Cheers star
13:55quickly veered into conspiracy theory territory,
13:58metaphorically referring to the American government
14:00as a, quote, cartel forcing, quote, drugs,
14:03in this case, the COVID-19 vaccine,
14:05onto an unsuspecting public.
14:07Having previously been criticized
14:09for promoting such conspiracies
14:10on his social media accounts,
14:12Harrelson was roundly reprimanded
14:14for spreading disinformation.
14:16I threw the script away.
14:18I mean, who is gonna believe that crazy idea?
14:21Being forced to do drugs?
14:23I do that voluntarily all day long.
14:26Trying to tackle the Try Guys.
14:28First off, Eugene, Zach, Keith, it's an honor.
14:35This is, yeah, it's just surreal.
14:38There's a lot of anger on this couch.
14:41You guys remember this, right?
14:43It was all over the internet in September 2022.
14:45The Try Guys, a group of four male YouTubers,
14:48were rocked by scandal when it was revealed
14:50that Ned Fulmer, one of their members,
14:52had had an affair with one of their production company's employees.
14:55Was this affair non-consensual?
14:57No, worse, he committed the heinous act
15:01of having a consensual kiss
15:04and not telling us his friends.
15:08The fallout sent shockwaves across the web
15:10as fans tried to reconcile their squeaky clean image
15:13with Fulmer's betrayal.
15:14Of course, SNL had to cover it in some way,
15:16but still caught serious flack for it.
15:19Writing for Mashable,
15:20Elizabeth DeLuna chastised the show for,
15:22quote, condoning brazen workplace misconduct,
15:24and, quote, misunderstanding the Try Guys' brand and fandom.
15:28What now?
15:30Well, we've conducted an internal review
15:32with a team of HR professionals
15:34and are no longer working with white guy, wife guy, Try Guy Ned.
15:38Dave Chappelle's monologue results in backlash.
15:40Early in my career,
15:42I learned that there are two words in the English language
15:45that you should never say together in sequence.
15:48And those words are the and juice.
15:52Ever the provocateur,
15:53Chappelle on SNL is always must-see TV.
15:57Having previously hosted two episodes
15:58following major U.S. electoral events,
16:01both admirers and detractors eagerly awaited his takes.
16:04However, his November 2022 hosting appearance
16:07took a slightly different turn,
16:09focusing on other recent news.
16:11Kanye's gotten into some scrapes before,
16:12and normally when he's in trouble,
16:14I pull up immediately.
16:16But this time, I was like,
16:18you know what, let me see what's going to happen first.
16:20In his somewhat bizarre and disjointed monologue,
16:23the notorious comedian addressed
16:24then-recent accusations of anti-Semitism
16:27directed at Kanye West
16:28and NBA player Kyrie Irving.
16:30Chappelle faced criticism
16:31from Anti-Defamation League CEO
16:33Jonathan Greenblatt
16:34for lacking sensitivity and nuance,
16:37as well as for not strongly disavowing
16:39the men's remarks.
16:40I had so many questions.
16:41Why do some of your people dress like Run-DMC?
16:44SafeLight Auto Glass.
16:45At SafeLight, we know how busy life can be.
16:48This girl was heading to play
16:50in the state championship
16:51when their windshield got a crack.
16:52For the uninitiated,
16:54SafeLight was probably the last company
16:56anyone would expect the show to poke fun at,
16:58considering their main business
16:59is selling and fixing car windshields.
17:01The premise of a 2017 sketch
17:03parodied SafeLight's previous commercials,
17:06with Beck Bennett portraying
17:07a SafeLight technician who uncomfortably hits
17:09on a customer's underage daughter
17:11in progressively creepier ways.
17:13How did the game go?
17:14We won.
17:15Wow, the windshield looks brand new.
17:17Thanks for your help.
17:18Bye.
17:19Wait, how close was the game?
17:21We demolished them.
17:22Good job.
17:23SafeLight responded negatively on Twitter,
17:25expressing disappointment
17:26at the show's portrayal of its employees
17:28and calling it, quote,
17:30not cool.
17:30In response,
17:32NBC swiftly but quietly removed the clip
17:34from all of its official platforms.
17:36A brand new windshield.
17:37You know, I came out at halftime
17:39and it was cracked again.
17:40No worries.
17:41So, who won the game this time?
17:44We destroyed them.
17:45The ADL takes issue with a cold open.
17:47I yield my time back to Mr. Phonic.
17:50Damn it!
17:52I am here today
17:53because hate speech
17:54has no place on college campuses.
17:57When a show tackles
17:58hot-button issues on a weekly basis,
18:00it's bound to rile some people up.
18:02On December 5th, 2023,
18:04the United States Congress
18:05held a hearing about anti-Semitism
18:07on American college campuses
18:08in the wake of the October 7th
18:10Hamas-led attack on Israel
18:11and subsequent related protests.
18:13Hate speech belongs in Congress,
18:17on Elon Musk's Twitter,
18:19in private dinners with my donors,
18:21and in public speeches
18:23by my work husband, Donald Trump.
18:26On December 9th,
18:27SNL began a parody of this hearing,
18:29with cast member Chloe Trost
18:31portraying U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik.
18:33The sketch took aim at Stefanik
18:35and the Republican Party at large
18:36for being vocal about this issue,
18:38but choosing to remain silent
18:40about other similar topics.
18:42SNL took heat on social media
18:43from the Anti-Defamation League,
18:45New York Post,
18:46and Republican politicians
18:47about their handling of the issue.
18:49This is personal for me.
18:51While I am not Jewish,
18:53I'm Roman Catholic.
18:54ISIS recruitment sketch.
18:56Well, this is it.
18:58You need any help with your bag?
19:00No, that's all right.
19:01I got it.
19:02How about some walking around money?
19:03Dad, it's okay.
19:05Did anyone see where this one was going
19:07when they first saw it?
19:08Host Dakota Johnson
19:09and SNL cast member Taryn Killam
19:11play a dad-daughter duo.
19:12Killam is seemingly dropping
19:14Johnson's character off at college
19:15in a parody of a 2015 Super Bowl ad for Toyota.
19:18You be careful, okay?
19:20Dad, it's just ISIS.
19:23When a truck full of arms-toting
19:25ISIS militants pulls up,
19:26it's pretty clear
19:27that Johnson's not going to college.
19:29SNL audiences didn't quite warm up
19:31to this absurd heightened spoof
19:32that leans heavily into dark comedy.
19:35The sketch was roundly criticized
19:36by social media users,
19:38with one person writing on Twitter,
19:39now X,
19:40quote,
19:41I say this as a lifelong SNL fan.
19:43The ISIS commercial was in poor taste.
19:46Scratch that.
19:46Horrible taste.
19:47Take care of her.
19:50Death to America.
19:51Gen Z Hospital.
19:53Doctor, please tell us
19:55what's up with our bestie.
19:57You don't mind when you sit down.
19:58What I have to say right now,
19:59I'd be a little cringe.
20:00Just give us a tea.
20:02Billionaire businessman Elon Musk
20:04is a divisive public figure,
20:06to say the least.
20:07His SNL hosting gig on May 8th, 2021
20:09was no less polarizing
20:11than one would expect.
20:12While Musk's comedic chops
20:14received predictably mixed reviews,
20:16one sketch in particular stood out
20:18with regard to the controversy it raised.
20:19Your bestie took a major L
20:21while driving our Hellcat.
20:23Yeah, we saw.
20:24We tried everything we couldn't.
20:25Viewers were critical of Gen Z Hospital
20:28for its attempt
20:29to satirize contemporary trends.
20:31Beyond that,
20:32the sketch came under fire
20:33for its perceived attacks
20:34on African-American vernacular English.
20:36Michael Che,
20:37who claimed credit for writing Gen Z Hospital,
20:40responded via social media,
20:41stating that he was unaware
20:42of the term's existence
20:44and insisting he meant no offense.
20:46Unfortunately,
20:47not right now, bro.
20:48You know the vibes.
20:50But I promise,
20:51if anything changes,
20:52I'll pull up.
20:55Say less, bro.
20:56Pete Davidson vs. Dan Crenshaw.
20:58As we said,
20:59the midterm elections are next week.
21:01Here with his first impressions
21:02of some of the candidates,
21:03it's Pete Davidson.
21:05Whoever said SNL
21:06never had an effect
21:07on American politics?
21:08Okay, maybe no one ever said that,
21:09but it is slightly amusing
21:11to think that this weekend update segment
21:13is likely what got
21:14Congressman Dan Crenshaw elected.
21:15So the midterm elections
21:17are obviously a huge deal.
21:19And after I had to move back
21:20and my mom,
21:21I started paying attention to them.
21:28She's loving it.
21:29As part of a bit
21:30in which Davidson roasted GOP hopefuls
21:32who were up for 2018's midterm elections,
21:34the King of Staten Island star
21:36referred to the then-candidate Crenshaw
21:38as, well...
21:39Hold on.
21:40Uh, you may be surprised to hear
21:43he's a congressional candidate
21:44from Texas
21:45and not a hitman
21:46in a porno movie.
21:48Left and right-wing publications
21:50alike criticized Davidson
21:51for mocking
21:52not only a military veteran,
21:53but a person with a disability.
21:55Crenshaw later appeared on the show
21:57to roast Davidson right back,
21:58after which the comedian apologized.
22:01Thank you so much for coming.
22:02Thanks for making a Republican look good.
22:05You gotta stop saying that, man.
22:08You've been saying it all day.
22:10President Trump
22:11airs his grievances via Twitter.
22:12You did the best tweet.
22:14I mean, wow,
22:15what a great, smart tweet.
22:17It's a never-ending cycle.
22:19SNL and Alec Baldwin
22:20mock Donald Trump during a skit,
22:22prompting the president
22:23to rage on Twitter.
22:25In turn,
22:26this provides SNL material
22:27for a future sketch,
22:28ensuring they never run out of jokes
22:30to make at Donald Trump's expense.
22:32Tell me about your Twitter bio.
22:35It says,
22:36liberalism is a mental illness.
22:37Whoa,
22:39I just got retweeted.
22:41Eventually,
22:41this cycle went meta,
22:43resulting in Donald Trump
22:44blasting SNL on Twitter
22:45about a skit
22:46making fun of how Trump
22:48uses the platform.
22:49Baldwin would play the role
22:50until 2020,
22:52at which point,
22:53incoming cast member
22:54and viral Trump impressionist
22:55James Austin Johnson
22:57filled his shoes.
22:57Actually,
22:58that's not why I do it.
22:59I do it because
23:00my brain is bad.
23:03But I promise I'm done retweeting.
23:06I'm ready to buckle down
23:07and get to work.
23:08Adrian Brody goes Jamaican.
23:10After winning an Oscar
23:11for his fantastic turn
23:13in Roman Polanski's
23:14The Pianist,
23:15Adrian Brody seemed to try
23:17everything in his power
23:18to squander that momentum.
23:20Besides giving Halle Berry
23:21an impromptu kiss
23:22at the Oscars,
23:23the talented actor's improv skills
23:25were called into question
23:26on Saturday Night Live.
23:28While hosting a 2003 episode,
23:30Brody donned fake dreadlocks
23:31and tried out a Jamaican accent
23:33before introducing
23:35reggae musician Sean Paul.
23:36Brody has yet to re-host SNL,
23:39suggesting that Lorne Michaels
23:40was far from impressed.
23:46When Down Syndrome
23:48was the punchline.
23:52Humor works best
23:53when it's at the expense
23:54of someone else.
23:55So, over the years,
23:56Saturday Night Live
23:57has poked fun
23:58at nearly everyone.
23:59Still, why Down Syndrome?
24:01He was running in the grass
24:03and chasing squirrels.
24:04The Danny's song skit
24:06centers around
24:07a group of friends
24:07sitting at a bar
24:08fondly reminiscing
24:09about a few unsavory memories.
24:12It's the first day
24:12I ever thought to myself
24:13just, I have a dad
24:15and not,
24:16I have a dad
24:18with Down Syndrome.
24:19John Coleman,
24:20the CEO of the
24:21National Down Syndrome Society,
24:23wrote a scathing letter
24:24to Lorne Michaels,
24:25criticizing the sketch
24:26as insensitive
24:28and derogatory.
24:30NBC replied with an apology
24:31and thanked Coleman
24:33for sharing his concerns
24:34with them.
24:35He left crayons.
24:35in the morning
24:37when I rise.
24:39Martin Lawrence.
24:40Nowadays,
24:41it might be hard to believe,
24:42but there was a time
24:43when Martin Lawrence
24:44owned Hollywood.
24:45Man, man, oh man,
24:47look at all these white people.
24:48The Martin series
24:49was hugely popular
24:50and he even made the jump
24:51to the big screen
24:52with Bad Boys
24:53and Nothing to Lose.
24:55Despite being one
24:56of the hottest comedians
24:57of the 90s,
24:58Lawrence was banned
24:58from SNL
24:59due to an offensive monologue
25:01delivered while hosting
25:02a 1994 episode.
25:04The rambling intro
25:06spends an absurd amount
25:07of time lambasting women
25:08for not taking proper care
25:10of themselves,
25:11prompting SNL
25:11to ban the comedian.
25:13It was a frank
25:14and lively presentation
25:15and nearly cost us
25:16all our jobs.
25:18We now return
25:18to the conclusion
25:19of Martin's monologue.
25:21Tiger Woods sketch
25:22mocking domestic violence.
25:23Those who have supported me
25:25over the years,
25:26I offer my profound apology
25:28for these multiple transgressions.
25:31Multiple?
25:32So it happened
25:33more than once?
25:34Mocking Tiger Woods
25:35is perfectly fine.
25:37Saturday Night Live
25:38would have been crazy
25:39to not write a skit
25:40after the infidelity scandal
25:41broke out.
25:42During 2009's
25:43Thanksgiving weekend,
25:45Elin Nordegren
25:45chased her husband
25:46with a golf club
25:47before Woods
25:48crashed his car
25:49and was temporarily
25:50knocked out.
25:51Looking where I was going
25:52and I fell down the stairs.
25:53I was disoriented
25:55from the fall
25:55so I stumbled
25:56to the other side
25:57of our house
25:58and I launched myself
25:59through a plate glass window.
26:01While Florida Highway Patrol
26:02found no evidence
26:03of domestic violence,
26:04SNL turned it
26:05into the punchline
26:06with Kenan Thompson's
26:08Tiger Woods
26:08trying to excuse
26:09his progressively
26:10worsening injuries.
26:14This is all my fault.
26:16Believe it or not.
26:17The sketch was criticized
26:18for suggesting
26:19that domestic violence
26:20is funny
26:20when the husband
26:21is the victim.
26:22Conferences.
26:24So this time
26:26I have a prepared
26:27written statement
26:27which I shall stick to.
26:29Ha!
26:29David Spade
26:31mocks Eddie Murphy's career.
26:33Celebrities and politicians
26:34are fair game
26:35but you should never
26:36throw one of your own
26:37under the bus.
26:38Look children,
26:39it's a falling star.
26:40Make a wish.
26:41David Spade
26:41and Lorne Michaels
26:42learned that the hard way
26:43when a brief
26:44Hollywood Minute segment
26:45ruined the show's
26:46relationship
26:47with Eddie Murphy.
26:48SNL owes a lot
26:49to the legendary comedian
26:50which explains
26:51why Murphy was shocked
26:53and hurt
26:53when Spade joked
26:54that his career
26:55was on the downturn.
26:57After two commercial misses,
26:59the last thing
26:59Eddie Murphy needed
27:00was for his ex-employer
27:01to kick him
27:02while he was down.
27:03You make a Hollywood Minute
27:04omit,
27:05you break some eggs.
27:0620 years later,
27:07they finally put
27:09their bad blood
27:09to bed.
27:10This show is such
27:11a big part of who I am
27:12and my life
27:13and I'm so happy
27:14to be back here
27:15and it's just
27:17a magical feeling.
27:19It actually feels like
27:20going back to my old
27:20high school kind.
27:21Jesus Uncrossed
27:23Guess who's back.
27:26Jesus Uncrossed
27:28Christoph Waltz
27:28is Jesus H. Christ
27:30in Jesus Uncrossed.
27:32The trailer spoofs
27:33Quentin Tarantino's
27:34Django Unchained
27:35and Inglorious Bastards
27:36by portraying
27:37a renegade version
27:38of Jesus
27:39who's out for revenge
27:40against the Romans
27:41who killed him.
27:42Jesus H. Christ!
27:44The H is silent.
27:46In the twist
27:47of the decade,
27:48a few religious groups
27:49did not take kindly
27:50to this over-the-top
27:51depiction of their
27:52Lord and Savior.
27:53When you get to heaven,
27:55say hi to my dad.
27:57SNL angered
27:58both Muslims
27:58and Christians,
27:59prompting the Council
28:00on American-Islamic relations
28:02to publicly lambaste
28:03Jesus Uncrossed
28:04as distasteful
28:05and disrespectful.
28:07We doubt anyone involved
28:09was surprised
28:09by the outrage.
28:11No more Mr. Nice Jesus.
28:13Laughing at a New York
28:15Governor
28:15with a visual disability.
28:17Here to publicly
28:18address the issue
28:19is New York Governor
28:20David Patterson.
28:25Over the decades,
28:26Saturday Night Live
28:27has supplied great satire
28:29on America's political system,
28:30but their Governor Patterson sketch
28:32is not one of them.
28:33Since the politician
28:34is legally blind,
28:36Patterson does require
28:37assistance with some tasks,
28:39but otherwise
28:39is self-sufficient.
28:41SNL portrayed the governor
28:42as a Mr. Magoo-type character,
28:44stumbling into
28:45and ruining
28:46a few different skits.
28:47If you don't believe me,
28:48take a look at this graph
28:49that I got here.
28:50Now.
28:51I think I see.
28:53The governor
28:53was not pleased
28:55with the gag,
28:55explaining that
28:56it perpetuates
28:57the stereotype
28:57that the visually impaired
28:59cannot carry out
29:00even the most basic
29:01of functions.
29:02Whoever is appointed senator
29:03must, like me,
29:04be caught totally off guard
29:06and be comically unprepared
29:07to take office.
29:09Norm MacDonald
29:10angers NBC executive
29:11Don Ohlmeyer.
29:13There are two things
29:13that I've never done
29:14that's beat a woman
29:15and bury all my money
29:16in the backyard.
29:17Lorne Michaels
29:18tends to have
29:19complete control
29:19over the comings
29:20and goings of SNL's cast,
29:22but there was a time
29:23when it was taken away
29:24from him.
29:24During the O.J. Simpson trial,
29:26SNL was known
29:27for portraying
29:28the naked gun actor
29:29as guilty,
29:29including remarks
29:30leveled by Norm MacDonald
29:32during his
29:33weekend update segment.
29:34Show me the money!
29:35Show me the money!
29:37Who saw that movie?
29:39Rumors suggest
29:40that these jokes
29:41annoyed Don Ohlmeyer,
29:42NBC's
29:43West Coast Division
29:44president
29:44and Simpson's friend,
29:46leading to
29:46the comedian's dismissal.
29:48MacDonald definitely
29:49believed this was the case,
29:51but it was never
29:52outright confirmed.
29:53It's just a matter of opinion.
29:54He also thinks
29:55that O.J. is innocent.

30:14Sinead O'Connor
30:15takes on the Pope.
30:16Everywhere is war.
30:20Even after all these years,
30:22this still easily stands out
30:23as Saturday Night Live's
30:25most infamous moment.
30:26Sinead O'Connor
30:27had already garnered
30:28a reputation
30:28as a musician
30:29who's willing
30:30to rock the boat,
30:31but that was taken
30:32into overdrive
30:33in 1992.
30:35After performing
30:35a cover of
30:36Bob Marley's War,
30:37the singer
30:38tore up a picture
30:39of Pope John Paul II
30:40while demanding
30:41that people
30:42fight the real enemy.
30:45Fight the real enemy!
30:47The moment did not
30:48help O'Connor's career
30:49and Joe Pesci
30:50jokingly threatened
30:51physical violence
30:52during the next SNL episode.
30:54I would have grabbed
30:55that by her eyebrows.
30:58O'Connor would
30:59eventually gain support
31:00following the exposure
31:01and acknowledgement
31:02of the church's abuse
31:03and her 2023 death.

31:07went too far?

31:10it's me,
31:10it's the juice!
