Jyoti Sharma, a 21-year-old second-year BDS student from Gurugram, died by s¥ic¡d€ at Sharda University on the night of 18 July 2025. She was found hanging in her hostel room.
In her s¥ic¡d€ note, Jyoti blamed two faculty members — Mahendra and Shaira — for “mental harassment” and “humiliation”. She accused them of making false allegations, intimidating her, and subjecting her to prolonged stress. “I can’t live like this anymore,” her note read, demanding they be sent “behind bars”.
Following her family’s complaint, Greater Noida police registered an FIR and arrested both accused staff members. Students staged protests demanding justice and stronger safeguards for students. Police officials confirmed the arrests, and the university suspended the two faculty members, forming an inquiry committee to investigate.
The case has reignited debate on mental health, student rights, and institutional accountability in Indian campuses.
