00:48Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:53We begin with the news.
00:58A flight with 252 Venezuelan migrants kidnapped in El Salvador arrived in Caracas Friday as part
01:13of the Bolivarian government's Back to the Homeland Plan. The Venezuelan nationals were a welcome
01:18at the Capital City's Micatilla Airport by Vice President Delce Rodriguez and Minister of Interior,
01:23Diosdado Cabello, who went inside the aircraft to greet the group before the boarding. In his address to the press
01:30at the airport's tarmac, Cabello informed that in El Salvador the migrants were taken to the aircraft in
01:37handcuffs and were shot at with rubber bullets before boarding injuring some of them. The high government official
01:45repudiated the action and called it a barbaric act on the part of Nayib Bukele's administration. Cabello also called
01:52the United Nations to conduct an investigation about the incident.
02:00With this, he said goodbye to the Venezuelan boys when they were going off the buses. When
02:08they arrived at the airplane, they shoot at them. Several boys are wounded with this rubber bullets.
02:17In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro led the peasant congress to kick off the formation of the peasant
02:26councils in rural communities. The head of state, he made a call to all the peasant movements to initiate a
02:32movement of reunification, of reboosting. In addition, he announced that there are three major lines of action,
02:39including the organizational and training, as well as the national plan of productive economy.
02:45He also proposed that from this Friday, July 18th until September 18th, 2025, they will take the time to
02:53organize the new unitary force that he would call it the National Peasant Union, Ezequiel Zamora.
03:00Earlier today, the Venezuelan government rescued 250 nationals kidnapped in the United States as part of
03:12President Nicolás Maduro's Back to the Homeland Plan. Flight number 45 arrived in the state of La Guayra
03:19with the 251 Venezuelan citizens, among them seven children who had been kidnapped by the
03:25government of the United States. Upon their arrival, they were received by the Minister of
03:29Interior Justice and Peace, Josal Cabello, who celebrated their return and also emphasized that
03:35none of these migrants had any legal charges that would allow them to be unlawfully retained in the
03:41United States. In this context, in the José Martí Square in Chacaito, in Caracas, the people mobilized to
03:55demand the return of the Venezuelan children kidnapped in the United States. During the Great March, the
04:00relatives, mothers and fathers of the Venezuelan migrants kidnapped in El Salvador expressed their
04:05gratitude to the national government and to the whole nation for their effort and dedication in achieving the
04:11return of their countrymen. In addition, the head of the government of Caracas, Nahum Fernández, also advocated for the
04:17freedom of the children kidnapped in the U.S.
04:25In this context, the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, received the seven migrant Venezuelan
04:31children who were rescued by the government plan to return to the homeland after being kidnapped in the U.S.
04:37and separated from their families. The children were received at the Miraflores Palace as Venezuela vows to
04:43continue its demand for the safe return of all children that remain kidnapped abroad.
04:48The Argentinian government announced the privatization of state-owned water and sewage
05:01company AISA by selling 90% of its shares. According to the spokesperson for the Presidency,
05:07Manuel Adorni, the transition will be carried out through a mixed system of national and
05:13international public binding. The government official said the mixed system seeks to select a
05:19strategic operator and to get an initial public offering and to open the company's capital to other
05:25investors. Adorni confirmed that the 10% of the company's capital will continue to belong to the
05:31employee shareholders within the joint ownership program.
05:35In Panama, the National Union of Construction Workers and Similar Industry Soundtracks rejected the
05:46lawsuit filed by the Panamanian Minister of Labour and Workforce Development, Jacqueline Muñoz,
05:51to dissolve the trade union. The Minister accused Soundtracks of alleged irregularities against workers' sake.
05:58In this regard, the lawyer of the union, Antonio Vargas, said to Telesur that Soundtracks had not managed to
06:04access the complaint. However, the attorney stressed that the suit must go through a due process in the
06:11judicial body. In all, Soundtracks has been a victim of political persecution by the Molina
06:17administration due to the leadership of the union in the rallies against law 462 of the Social Security
06:24Fund.
06:25We are going to defend our trade union. It is not as easy as she said that the union be dissolved,
06:38and she thinks that this can be solved by the blink of an eye. She knows that for this dissolution to
06:44happen, a very long process has to take place, and workers are going to fight because the construction workers
06:50workers who daily make their efforts at the projects. They are aware that the union has historically
06:55defended them. It has represented them before the employer's abuses. And these abuses often occur in
07:02complicity with the officials of the Ministry of Labour. This is a great truth, and the minister does not
07:08recognize it.
07:09That is a great truth, and that the minister does not say and does not recognize it.

07:43Welcome back to From the South. Brazil's Supreme Court applied new sanctions against former President
07:49Heide Bolsonaro amid an ongoing coup-plot case. The federal police carried out a search operation
07:54against Bolsonaro in the city of Brasilia, which was authorized by the federal court. The authorities
08:00found the former president at his home in Hatim Botanico neighborhood, where he was ordered to wear an

08:18investigation by the Supreme Court.
08:21Brazilian President Lula da Silva reiterated his rejection of U.S. President Donald Trump's
08:31interference following his threats to increased tariffs on Brazilian products by up to 50% as of August 1st.
08:38The Brazilian head of state assured that his country, in response to the Trump administration's threats, will impose
08:44taxes on U.S. technology companies. In addition, President Lula criticized the letter published by his U.S.
08:50counterpart as the basis for the intended tariff increase, pointing out that it does not appeal to
08:56negotiations and that it links the tariff increase to the legal situation of former president
09:02Jair Bolsonaro, who is being tried for an attempted coup d'etat.
09:12Chilean social movements rallied for demanding the transfer to a hospital of prisoner Mauricio Hernández
09:18Norambuena, known as Commander Ramiro, after having registered several health serious problems in the past
09:24weeks. The protest was held in front of the Santiago prison to denounce that the commander was being tortured and
09:30deprived of medical attention in the penitentiary center. It is important to highlight that 67-year-old Mauricio Hernández
09:37Norambuena has been serving a 26-year sentence since 2019, who was convicted for participating in the assassination
09:46attempt against dictator Augusto Pinochet in 1986, among other allegations.
09:52It has been difficult this last month. It has not been easy. He still doesn't have a diagnosis after a month. And a diagnosis that interests us. Basically, he has spent 20 years in prison. He was in
10:13the hospital under torture. He has been tortured all his life. He has spent more time in prison. Today, the government does not give him the chance to be transferred to a specialist hospital. The government just sent him to a low-quality hospital in which he cannot be diagnosed properly. And that's a basic human right any human being must have.
10:40This is a by-product of the false democracy Chile is living through right now. THRE is no good and evil. We only see evil in our reality. That is what prevails in this country the capitalist system. And Ramiro's case is the best example of society due to the far-right entrepreneurs will never release Ramiro. But we still want to fight. That is why we want to get his freedom because we believe in him because we owe him the dignity Chile must have.
10:47We owe him the chileans accomplish at some point. We owe him and other comrades this country. And we think it is urgent today that we have to be able to get his freedom.
10:54to save his life.
10:55That is why Ramiro could be taken to a hospital to save his life.

13:01On the other hand, she denied that her government is paying for the expansion of the wall and reiterated her respect for the Mexican people living in the United States.

15:22From the South.
15:23From the South. After the ceasefire failure, new clashes bursted out in the Syrian Suwai, the city bringing about 600 deaths, while the de facto government forces were preparing a deployment in the area. Armed groups of various ethnicities confronted the government forces using both medium weapons and rocket launchers in the nearby Al-Marsah, Kanker and Kalkala towns. So far, sources estimated there was no coordinated official response to discomfort.
15:50As a result, the civilian population is taking shelter for fear of being a victim due to the generated violence.

16:04Al-Mayadeen sources reported the supposed assassination of three prominent figures in the Syrian transitional administration, including Defense Minister Marhaf Abu Qasra, amid a tense security climate and ambiguity surrounding the political scene.
16:19They also reported that a military unit entered the capital's radio and television building, where it directly supervised media operations in an action described as surprising.
16:42These events coincide with ongoing tensions in southern Syria, where the skies over as Suwai, the province have witnessed intense attacks by Israeli warplanes, along with a number of drone aircraft.
16:55Medical sources unfolded that recent Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip have claimed at least 26 civilian lives.
17:10They further detailed that criminal Israeli bombings had targeted tents located in Almawasi, causing a large fire and killing some five Gazans, including babies.
17:29In addition, health authorities estimated that thousands of victims were still trapped in the rubble and areas inaccessible to emergency and civil defense teams due to the recurrent Zionist aggression.
17:44Overall, the offensive of the Netanyahu regime continued despite calls for a ceasefire by the international community, urging to take resounding measures to stop the genocide and defuse the humanitarian crisis in the enclave.
17:58Thousands of Yemenis rallied on Friday in squares across the nation to support the Palestinian people.
18:10The demonstrators expressed their rejection to the Israeli genocide under the slogan,
18:14We continue to support Gaza and fight Zionist abuses against that nation.
18:19They also carried Palestinian Yemeni flags and chanted slogans against the crimes and massacres on civilians in Gaza.
18:26Political and social leaders attending the rallies ratified an all-out rejection to Israeli and U.S. invasion against the Arab countries.
18:36In other information, the European Union approved a new package of sanctions against Russia on Friday.
18:48The package, which is the 18th set of sanctions against Moscow since the start of the special operation in Ukraine, was passed after a brief meeting of European ambassadors and announced by the bloc's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kalas.
19:02The new set of coercive measures establishes abandoned Russian North Stream gas pipelines and sets a lower limit on the price of oil.
19:10In addition, it restricts Russian banks' access to financing and targets 105 oil tankers that allegedly helped the Russian nation evade Western sanctions by facilitating the sale of crude oil.
19:25Furthermore, the bloc will ban exports of technologies used in drones, extending sanctions to the largest refinery of the Russian oil company, Rosneft, in India.
19:35Refugee camps in Kenya begins to fuel the effects of the funding cuts implemented by the United States through humanitarian assistance programs.
19:51As a result of Washington's decision, food shortages have worsened in the African nation, with the risk that as of August, the refugees will not receive any food at all.
20:01The Kukuma refugee camp is home to more than 300,000 displaced from South Sudan, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo due to armed conflict in those countries.
20:13And like this, we have come to the end of this brief.
