00:00The Gingerbread Man
00:11An old lady and an old man lived in a little house by themselves.
00:27They had no children, and they felt very lonely and sad at times.
00:33It gets so boring with just the two of us.
00:36You are always out in the garden, and I have nothing to do after I finish my cooking and cleaning.
00:42Well, I'm sure you can find some other ways to keep yourself occupied.
00:47Hmm, I think I will bake something today. I haven't done that in a long time.
00:52That's a good idea. Go ahead and do that.
00:54Make something interesting for dinner tonight.
00:58Now I have to head out to the garden again, as there are still some more weeds to be pulled out.
01:02The old lady decided she would make some gingerbread.
01:06She got out all of the ingredients she needed and kneaded the dough for the gingerbread.
01:12Softly humming to herself, suddenly she had an idea.
01:16Let me do something fun.
01:20I will make the gingerbread in the shape of a man.
01:23A gingerbread man!
01:26My husband will be very amused, I'm sure.
01:29So the old lady rolled out the dough and cut it out in the shape of a man.
01:48Let me see now.
01:49One little ball to be shaped into a mouth,
01:52two little chocolate chips for eyes,
01:55and these pretty red cherries for buttons.
01:59Oh, that's one handsome gingerbread man.
02:03I'm sure he'll taste as good as he looks.
02:06Now into the oven.
02:09The old lady went and sat on her rocking chair,
02:12knitting away while waiting for the gingerbread man to bake.
02:16Mmm.
02:28I'm starting to get the lovely smell of gingerbread.
02:32Must be done by now.
02:34Let me go and check.
02:35The old lady put on her oven gloves and went to open the oven door.
02:40But as she did,
02:43the gingerbread man got up from the baking tray
02:46and jumped out of the oven.
02:50Good heavens, what was that?
02:53Before she realized what was happening,
02:55the gingerbread man ran to the open window,
02:58jumped out,
02:59and in a second was running down the garden
03:01and out into the street.
03:02Hey, hey, where do you think you're going?
03:14Come right back here.
03:16We are supposed to be having you for dinner.
03:27Oh, no, no.
03:28I am not your dinner.
03:30For you can't lay your hands on me.
03:33Run, run, as fast as you can.
03:35You can't catch me.
03:35I'm the gingerbread man.
03:37children play.
03:42Have a good night.
03:42Bye.
03:44Bye.
03:45Bye.
03:48Bye.
03:49Bye.
03:49Bye.
03:54Bye.
03:55Bye.
03:58Bye.
03:58Bye.
03:59Bye.
04:02Bye.
04:03Bye.
04:04Bye.
04:04The old lady's husband looked in surprise at his wife running after a gingerbread man.
04:15What's happening?
04:16Stop staring and run and catch that robe.
04:19I had baked him for our dinner.
04:21But how did he run out?
04:23I will tell you all that later.
04:26Quick, catch him before he vanishes.
04:29The old man starts running after the gingerbread man, shouting at him to stop.
04:34The old lady cannot catch me, and neither can you.
04:38Run, run, as fast as you can.
04:40You can't catch me.
04:41I'm the gingerbread man.
04:42Down the road ran the gingerbread man, with the old man and the lady running behind him.
05:07A cow sitting beside the road saw the gingerbread man and said,
05:12You look so tasty.
05:16I want to eat you.
05:18The old lady and old man cannot catch me.
05:24See if you can catch me, you fat thing.
05:27Fat thing, you cheeky fellow.
05:29Just you wait till I catch you.
05:32The cow started running after the gingerbread man, along with the old man and the old lady.
05:37Run, run, as fast as you can.
05:59You can't catch me.
06:00I'm the gingerbread man.
06:01Along the road they ran, with all the passerbys looking at them in surprise.
06:24A little way ahead, a horse that was trotting along the road stopped to see what was happening.
06:29That sure looks like a tasty meal.
06:33Everyone out of my way.
06:35I'm going to catch that fellow and have him for dinner instead of hay.
06:39Oh, so you also want to eat me.
06:43Come on, you can also try.
06:46But you will have to start galloping instead of trotting.
06:50Believe me, you will be having your hay only for dinner after all.
06:53He he he he he he he he he.
07:10So the horse also joined the old lady, old man, and the cow to try and catch the gingerbread man.
07:17The gingerbread man was having a lot of fun seeing all of them trying to catch him.
07:23A little way ahead, he stood by the roadside.
07:26Don't you think you should give up?
07:28Let me tell you again.
07:30Run, run, as fast as you can.
07:32You can't catch me.
07:33I'm the gingerbread man.
07:34Once again, the gingerbread man started running, looking back at all those chasing him with a big grin on his face.
07:43A little way ahead was a big, fat pig walking along with its piglets.
07:48When it saw the gingerbread man, it said,
07:51That guy sure smells good.
07:54Should be a good treat for my little piggies.
07:57Wait, wait.
07:59I want to have a word with you.
08:00No, you don't.
08:02You want to make a meal of me.
08:04And that is not going to happen.
08:06You stinking thing.
08:08What?
08:08How dare you?
08:10You rude fellow.
08:11I will show you.
08:13Come on, piggies.
08:14Let's catch him and eat him.
08:23And so the pig and piglets also joined the rest to try and catch the gingerbread man.
08:30Up ahead there was a farm, and near the fence was a big, brown hen.
08:35When she saw the gingerbread man, she said,
08:39You look so yummy.
08:41May I have a nibble?
08:43May I have a nibble?
08:46No, you may not.
08:48But you can always try.
08:50Come, join the merry procession.
08:54Run, run, as fast as you can.
08:57You can't catch me.
08:58I'm the gingerbread man.
08:59Oh, what a sight it was.
09:02There was the old man and the old lady trundling along, the cow and the pig waddling along,
09:08the horse galloping along, and the hen running and flapping her wings with a loud sound.
09:14I think I've had enough fun.
09:16No way are those slow coaches going to catch up with me.
09:19So I'll just look around for some place to rest.
09:22Phew.
09:22All that running has really tired me out.
09:24A little farther away, there was a river flowing gently.
09:29The gingerbread man wanted to go across to the other side,
09:32but if he fell in the water, he would become all soggy.
09:38As he was thinking of what to do, he heard a voice.
09:42Want me to take you across?
09:44The gingerbread man looked around and saw a fox sitting against a rock.
09:50You think I'm a fool?
09:51You also want to eat me like the rest of them.
09:54Eat you?
09:55A measly-looking fellow like you?
09:57You are not even enough as a starter.
09:59Forget a whole meal.
10:03The fox was a very, very wily fellow.
10:08He knew the gingerbread man could run very fast,
10:11and he was too lazy to run after him.
10:14Then why would you want to be so good to me?
10:17I am not being good to you.
10:19I was going to cross the river anyway,
10:20so I thought you could hop on my back and I would take you across.
10:25Eh...
10:26Decide fast.
10:29I don't have the whole day.
10:31Okay.
10:32What would you want in exchange?
10:34I'll tell you that when we cross over.
10:37Come on, on my back.
10:50When they were halfway across,
10:52the fox told the gingerbread man...
10:55I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable.
10:57I think it would be better if you perch yourself on my neck.
11:00The gingerbread man crawled onto the fox's neck.
11:05Ah, that's better.
11:06After a while, the fox started moving its neck and told him...
11:23Oh, my neck has started paining.
11:26I think it would be better if you sit on my snout.
11:29The gingerbread man thought he was very smart,
11:32but he couldn't guess what was going on in the cunning fox's mind.
11:37As before, it did what the fox told him to.
11:41There.
11:42Are you okay now?
11:43This was the chance the fox had been waiting for.
11:46As soon as the gingerbread man sat on its snout,
11:50the fox quickly tossed him up and caught him in his mouth as he fell.
11:53And there ended the tale of the gingerbread man.
12:01Ha!
12:02Thought he was smarter than me.
