00:00Let me just start by asking you about how Washington views what's been happening in Syria.
00:07I mean, the rehabilitation of Syria and bringing the leader, the president, President al-Shahir, in from the cold
00:14seemed to be very much a personal project of President Trump.
00:18And I'm wondering, therefore, how you think he views these developments, notably the airstrikes on Damascus.
00:25Yeah, it's a great, great question. And you're right, Tom.
00:28President Trump has got, you know, he's planted some seeds with President Ahmad al-Shahir,
00:35and I do think he's got great hopes for, you know, reintegrating Syria into the West and into, you know,
00:43the American, you know, attempts for peace in the Middle East, and even at some point waving them into the Abraham Accords,
00:51which would be quite something.
00:52But on the other hand, you know, he does respect the fact that Netanyahu in Israel, you know,
00:58has to protect his people, and he's concerned with some of the troop movements on the border,
01:04especially around the Golan Heights.
01:06So, you know, it's a delicate situation.
01:08But I do think, number one, President Trump does not want to upset the process of, you know,
01:14reintegrating Syria, and that's why Marco Rubio has been all over this.
01:19I mean, it hasn't been big news in the U.S. here in Chicago, Tom, but it hasn't really hit the headlines.
01:26But I know Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State and National Security Advisor, is very much on top of this
01:33and has made some statements and has definitely been involved in the negotiations in the last 24 hours, especially.
