A rare baby okapi has been born at Chester Zoo. The “precious” calf was born to mum Ada and dad Stomp, following a 14-month pregnancy. Zoo keeper Jade Miner said the animal is "really rare" and the zoo is "very lucky" to welcome the calf. Report by Kennedyl. 00:00Carpi are really rare. They're believed to be between 3,000 and 15,000 in the wild and they weren't discovered until 1901.
00:07It's really special. We're really lucky. A lot of this stuff happens at night. They're very elusive, a carpi.
00:11So to actually see the camera footage is lovely. It gives us a real insight to what's going on and they are really rare so there's not a lot of footage of this around.
00:18They've been a really lovely relationship. We haven't had a boy in a while so it's been nice seeing her really dote on having a little son.
00:23And he's been really ready to go. As babies go they can be quite quiet and elusive and he's probably been one of our bounciest yet.
