00:21The violence began at around 5pm on the 18th of July 2024, when West Yorkshire Police responded to a disturbance between a family and social services on Luxor Street.
00:32Crowds quickly gathered at the scene, with some filming officers and confronting them.
00:37As tensions escalated, a police car's windows were smashed and it was overturned, with outnumbered officers retreating at one point.
00:44Meanwhile, videos of the disorder flooded social media, drawing national attention as the situation spilled into full-scale riot scenes.
00:53The first perpetrators involved appeared in court four days after the violence erupted, with the latest appearing just in the last few days.
01:01So far, 23 people have been convicted, attracting sentences amounting to more than 39 years in prison, although more are in the pipeline.
01:09Officers from the Homicide and Major Inquiry team have made 77 arrests, with 38 people charged so far, and more cases currently moving through the court system.
01:20West Yorkshire Police say they have been, and continue to speak, extensively with partners and community contacts across Hare Hills about the positive change they want to see in communities.
