New risk of measles deepens vaccine tensions in rural Canadian town
Tensions arise in the Canadian town of Aylmer over measles vaccine acceptance, as Canada faces a spike of more than 3,000 confirmed cases and ranks ninth globally, just behind Nigeria, according to World Health Organization data updated July 9, 2025. Canada, which officially eradicated measles in 1998, has recorded more cases of the virus this year than the United States, despite having roughly 300 million fewer people.
