Wayne Hennessey has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 38, bringing to a close a career that spanned nearly two decades.
The Bangor-born goalkeeper made his debut for Wales in 2007 and went on to win 109 caps, becoming his country’s most-capped goalkeeper and a key figure during their golden era.
His most significant club spell came at Crystal Palace, where he made 132 appearances between 2014 and 2021.

00:43where he made 132 appearances between 2014 and 2021.
00:48He played a key role during the 15, 16 and 17 seasons, reaching a FA Cup final with Palace,
00:55which at their time was the best run in the competition and maintaining a strong rapport with fans.
01:01Though later displaced as first choice by Vincent Guaita, Hennessy remained a valuable squad member
01:07and leader after mentoring younger teammates.
01:11After leaving Palace, he had brief spells at Burnley and Nottingham Forest
01:15where he played a supporting role before being released earlier this summer.

01:24Having been born and raised in North Wales, it was always my dream to play at the highest level.
01:30The summer of 2016 was the pinnacle of my career,
01:34having made the FA Cup final with Palace and the semi-finals of the Euros with my beloved Wales.
01:39He also paid tribute to the goalkeepers' union, coaching staff and fans who supported him through injuries and setbacks.
01:48A respected figure for club and country, Hennessy retires with pride and gratitude,
01:53leaving behind an efficacy of professionalism, resilience and consistency.
01:57The Welshman retires as a true servant to club and country, respectable, reliable and resilient.
