His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has approved the appointments of three top judicial figures, including Court of Appeal judge Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh as the new Chief Justice of the Federal Court.

00:00His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has approved the appointments of three top judicial figures,
00:06including Court of Appeal Judge Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Saleh as the new Chief Justice of the Federal Court.
00:13The 62-year-old jurist from Kuala Terengganu takes over from Tun Tenku Maimun Tuan Mat, who retired on July 2.
00:22Before donning judicial robes, Wan Ahmad Farid wore a very different hat in Malaysian politics.
00:29He served as political secretary to former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and was a deputy home minister from 2008 to 2009.
00:39He even contested the Kuala Terengganu state by election in 2009, though unsuccessfully.
00:46A graduate of the University of West London with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1985,
00:52Wan Ahmad Farid made a dramatic career shift when he quit politics in 2013.
01:00Just two years later, he entered the judiciary as a judicial commissioner in December 2015.
01:07He was elevated to the High Court in 2019, serving in Kota Baru, Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur,
01:14before being appointed to the Court of Appeal just last November.
01:17Wan Ahmad Farid will be sworn in as the nation's 17th Chief Justice on July 28.
