Ryan Roberts talks about one sleeper on the Notre Dame offense that he thinks will take the offense to the next level in 2025.
Transcript
00:00The Notre Dame offense has a chance to be fantastic in the 2025 season.
00:04Everyone knows the big names, but I want to talk about a sleeper I'm most excited about
00:08that could take the fighting Irish to the next level this upcoming season.
00:15Ryan Roberts from A to Z Sports breaking down everything Notre Dame football.
00:18Folks, we are in the little bit of the dead period of the offseason,
00:21but only less than 50 days away from Notre Dame opening up against the Miami Hurricanes.
00:26And this offense is one of the most exciting groups and units that I can remember in Notre Dame
00:32in several years as far as the upside and the potential.
00:36Now, there are some guys that need to actualize that talent into production,
00:39but you look around and there is talent everywhere.
00:42And as a fan, a lot of guys to get super excited about.
00:45You start obviously with Jeremiah Love, who is the best running back in all of college football,
00:49returning in 2025.
00:50Talk about Malachi Fields, a wide receiver to transfer Virginia.
00:52You talk about Jayden Greathouse, who had 230 yards and three touchdowns in his final two weeks of the season.
00:58You can talk about the young quarterbacks, Kenny Minchie, CJ Carr, whoever ends up winning that starting job.
01:03The offensive line, if you are one of the nerds out there, like myself,
01:06that really gets excited about great offensive line play,
01:09one of those guys potentially taking an ascension.
01:11But of all the guys, I really think that we are missing out on a couple of X-Factor type players.
01:18And I want to hear from you about your X-Factors at the end of this video,
01:21but I want to start it out with Aeneas Williams as a guy for me.
01:24In that running back room that features Jeremiah Love,
01:27who is the best running back in college football and is a Heisman Trophy frontrunner entering the season.
01:32You have Jadarian Price behind him, who ran for 700 yards and seven touchdowns,
01:35averaging over six yards a carry as a big play threat.
01:37You also have this preseason hype that is following Kedron Young, and it is warranted.
01:41I think Kedron Young, as a redshirt freshman, is a very talented player,
01:44over 240 pounds now, as a super interesting power back potentially in this offense
01:50that could use a little bit of that short yardage upside.
01:53But I really think that we aren't talking enough about Aeneas Williams.
01:56And for some niche reasons in this offense,
01:59is Aeneas Williams going to run for 1,000 yards in 2025?
02:02No.
02:03But Aeneas Williams is going to have a role that is incredibly important to this offense.
02:07If you watch, obviously, what he did against Penn State specifically,
02:10the ability that he has out of the backfield as a pass catcher,
02:13I think is very unique in this offense.
02:15Jeremiah Love can do a lot of those things.
02:17But outside of him, you're not going to ask Jadarian Price to do a ton of
02:20check down, option routes, wheel routes out of the backfield.
02:24You're not going to ask him to do a ton in the passing game in general.
02:26He only caught three passes last year, or four passes for Jadarian Price.
02:30Kedron Young has good hands, but he's 240 plus pounds.
02:33He's not going to be a guy that's going to specialize as a pass receiver out of the backfield either.
02:37Aeneas Williams is that guy.
02:39At right around 200, 205 pounds, he is a guy that legitimately can play in the slot at times
02:44if you need him to.
02:45He can run a variety of routes out of the backfield.
02:48I think that he is, again, going to be the third down back for Notre Dame.
02:50And I really like him with the potential of a young quarterback that might need some help
02:55as a check down option out of the backfield.
02:58I wouldn't be surprised if Aeneas Williams ends up having 20 plus catches this year,
03:01maybe 300 plus yards rushing.
03:03And he's a guy that can be counted on in the biggest moments of the game,
03:07those high leverage situations, third down.
03:09I want to hear from you guys.
03:11Aeneas Williams is my guy as my X-factor on the offensive side of the football.
03:14Put into the comments section right now,
03:16who are some guys on the offensive side of the football that you're most excited about
03:19that you don't think that people are talking about enough,
03:21that could be some X-factors.
03:22Make sure to hit that like button and subscribe on your way out.
03:24And as always, go Irish!
