A mixed start with showery rain moving through parts of Scotland into western England, Wales and further showers following for Northern Ireland and western Scotland and some bright spells in between these showers. Ahead of the showers and the cloud in the west, it will be dry and sunny with temperatures reaching the low 30s in places. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 18/07/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Aidan McGivern.
00:00Hi there, good morning. It's a warm but in places misty, cloudy and for some wet start to Friday.
00:09Very mixed conditions across the UK, in other words, showery rain moving through parts of Scotland into Western England, Wales
00:15and then further showers following for Northern Ireland and Western Scotland, albeit within these showers a better chance of some bright spells coming through.
00:24Ahead of the showers and the cloud in the west, we've got some hot sunshine developing through parts of North East England, East Anglia, South East and the Midlands.
00:33Widely, temperatures here reaching the high 20s or even the low 30s in places.
00:38That temperature plus the humidity plus some instability in the atmosphere combined could lead to some fairly nasty thunderstorms across the North East of England
00:48and some high rainfall rates, 40 to 60 millimetres in just a few hours.
00:52Now, of course, we need the rain, but that amount of rain in a short time could cause issues falling onto relatively dry ground.
01:00And then there's the chance later in the day of further thunderstorms coming up from Northern France.
01:05So we've got the initial thunderstorms setting off during the afternoon and early part of the evening.
01:11That's North East England, parts of Lincolnshire, for example.
01:14And then the next area of heavy rain and thunderstorms moving up from Northern France to affect parts of Eastern and Central England,
01:22perhaps reaching as far west as East Wales by the end of the night.
01:25Towards the north and west, clear spells, fewer showers, but another muggy night for sleeping and a warm start to the weekend.
01:33But a wet one for parts of England and Wales.
01:35Much more rain than we've seen throughout most of the summer across central and eastern parts.
01:41It's going to be good for the gardens, of course, and the farms.
01:44Not necessarily good in terms of disruption because it's going to be heavy and it's going to dump a lot of rain in a short space of time.
01:54It could be lightning and hail combined with that as well.
01:56So, yeah, a risk of thunderstorms because the risks of lightning, hail and intense rain are very real, but some useful rain in places as well.
02:07And after those outbreaks of rain move through, further showers follow from the west for Sunday.
