00:00It was the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim, king of Judah.
00:18The sun was setting behind the walls of Jerusalem when a dark shadow rose on the horizon.
00:26It was an army, an empire.
00:30Babylon, the most feared nation of its time, had come to claim its dominion.
00:37The gates were broken down.
00:42The temple plundered.
00:45The princes of Judah were chained and dragged to foreign lands.
00:51Among them was a young man whose destiny would change the course of history.
00:56His name.
01:00Daniel.
01:05From the courts of Babylon to the end of time.
01:10From the empires of the past to the prophecies of the future.
01:15This is not just a tale of kings and battles.
01:18It is not just the story of a prophet in the court of an empire.
01:21It is a warning.
01:25Some believe that Daniel saw his time.
01:28Others believe that he saw ours.
01:33What if the words that were sealed for centuries are about to be fulfilled?
01:37The wise will understand.
01:41The wise will understand.
01:41It was the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim, king of Judah.
02:02The inhabitants of Jerusalem heard the thunder of drums before they saw the smoke.
02:07The sentinels on the walls shouted warnings, but everyone knew what was happening.
02:13Babylon had arrived.
02:15The army of King Nebuchadnezzar advanced like an unstoppable river.
02:19No one could resist its power.
02:22City after city had fallen under its dominion, and now Jerusalem was the next target.
02:27The soldiers broke down the city gates.
02:31Chaos erupted in the streets.
02:33Houses were looted.
02:35And in the heart of the city, where the temple of God stood, the invaders showed no mercy.
02:44The sacred vessels, the treasures of the temple, everything that was holy was seized and taken far away,
02:51to Babylon, to the temple of pagan gods.
02:54But they did not only take riches.
02:57Babylon did not conquer only with swords.
03:00It also conquered mines.
03:03King Nebuchadnezzar issued a decree.
03:09Take from among the children of Israel the wisest, the strongest, the most skilled in all knowledge.
03:17Bring them to my palace to be educated in the wisdom of Babylon.
03:22Let them forget their gods, their customs, their language.
03:26Let them serve my kingdom.
03:32And so they were selected.
03:35Young men without blemish.
03:37Princes and nobles of Israel.
03:40Torn from their land.
03:42Forced to march through the desert.
03:44Leaving behind their home, their family, and everything they knew.
03:48Among them, four names would stand out in history.
03:54Daniel.
03:57Hananiah.
04:01Mishael.
04:04Azariah.
04:05They did not yet know what awaited them in Babylon.
04:12They could not imagine the challenges they would face.
04:15But in their hearts, there was only one certainty.
04:19Even in a foreign land, they would remain faithful to their god.
04:23The journey was long.
04:32The dust of the desert covered their faces when they finally saw the gates of Babylon.
04:38What they found was something they had never seen before.
04:42Golden towers.
04:43Colossal temples.
04:45Hanging gardens.
04:46Everything shone with a splendor that seemed almost divine.
04:51The city was not just the capital of an empire.
04:55It was the symbol of absolute power.
04:58And now these young men from Judah had to learn its customs, its language, its wisdom.
05:04But Babylon did not just want to teach them.
05:07It wanted to transform them.
05:10One of the first changes was their identity.
05:12They shall no longer be called Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
05:21Their Hebrew names are a reminder of a defeated god.
05:25Now they shall have Babylonian names in honor of our gods.
05:28Thus, Daniel was called Belteshazzar, Hananiah was called Shadrach, Mishael was called Meshach,
05:39Azariah was called Abednego.
05:42It was an attempt to erase their faith, to make them forget who they were.
05:47But Babylon did not just try to change their names.
05:50It also offered them a new way of life.
05:53The tables of the palace were filled with exquisite delicacies, roasted meats, wine in golden cups.
06:01Food fit for a king.
06:03But Daniel hesitated, his mind racing.
06:05The aroma of the food was tempting.
06:11Well-cooked meat, spices I had never tasted before.
06:15And yet, in my heart, I heard a voice saying,
06:20Do not do it.
06:22The king's dishes were consecrated to his gods.
06:25Eating from that table meant more than just nourishment.
06:29It meant accepting the culture of Babylon, submitting to its power.
06:33Look around you, Daniel, I thought.
06:37You are alone.
06:39Your land has been destroyed.
06:41Your people are scattered.
06:43But my god, still rains.
06:47I looked at my friends.
06:49I knew they felt the same.
06:52Daniel approached the chief of the eunuchs and made a request.
06:56Please, allow us to eat only vegetables and drink water for ten days.
07:05Then, compare our appearance with the other young men who have eaten the king's food.
07:09The chief of the eunuchs feared that the king would see them as weak.
07:19But he agreed.
07:21Ten days later, when Daniel and his friends were presented before the officials,
07:26their faces were healthier than the others.
07:29Their minds sharper.
07:31Their strength intact.
07:33They had not needed the delicacies of Babylon.
07:36The god of Israel had sustained them.
07:38Years passed, and Daniel and his friends grew in knowledge and wisdom.
07:52They excelled in the court of Babylon and were found ten times wiser than the magicians and astrologers of the king.
08:00But one day, Nebuchadnezzar, the most powerful monarch in the world, had a dream that deeply troubled him.
08:08The splendor of his empire did not bring him peace.
08:11The glory of Babylon did not give him rest.
08:15He knew that his dream meant something more.
08:18Something significant.
08:19Something he needed to understand.
08:21But no one could explain it to him.
08:23Bring me, my wise men, my astrologers, my diviners.
08:31I want them to reveal the meaning of this dream to me.
08:36The magicians of Babylon stood before the throne, expecting the king to tell them his dream.
08:43But Nebuchadnezzar had other intentions.
08:45I do not only want you to give me the interpretation, I want you to tell me the dream itself.
08:53If you are truly wise, you should be able to reveal it to me.
08:57The astrologers looked at each other.
09:02Never before had such a demand been made of them.
09:05It was then that one of the Babylonian magicians spoke.
09:12O king, live forever.
09:13Tell us the dream, and we will give you the interpretation.
09:16No, you must tell me the dream and its meaning.
09:23If you do not, all of you will be executed.
09:26But if you reveal it to me, you will be honored and rewarded with riches.
09:33The magicians tried to excuse themselves.
09:37They insisted that only the gods could reveal such a mystery.
09:40But Nebuchadnezzar, furious, decreed the death of all the wise men of Babylon.
09:47And among the condemned was Daniel.
09:52When I learned of the decree, my heart trembled.
09:55It was not only unjust, but it was about to be carried out.
09:59The sentence had been given.
10:02All the wise men would die.
10:04There was no escape unless God intervened.
10:07I sought out my friends and said to them,
10:11Let us pray.
10:13Let us pray that the God of heaven will reveal this mystery to us.
10:18That night, in a vision, the king's dream was revealed to me.
10:25At dawn, Daniel was brought before Nebuchadnezzar.
10:28Are you able to tell me the dream I had and its meaning?
10:31O king, no wise man, astrologer, or magician can reveal what you ask.
10:39But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.
10:42And he has shown me the dream you had and its interpretation.
10:47This is what you saw.
10:49A great statue stood before you.
10:52It was majestic, imposing.
10:54Its head was made of pure gold.
10:56Its chest and arms were of silver.
10:59Its belly and thighs were of bronze.
11:02Its legs were of iron.
11:04And its feet, partly of iron and partly of baked clay.
11:09Suddenly, without any hand touching it,
11:12a stone was cut from a mountain.
11:15It struck the statue on its feet.
11:17And the entire image crumbled.
11:20The gold, silver, bronze, iron, and clay were all reduced to dust.
11:25But the stone that struck the statue
11:28grew into a great mountain that filled the whole earth.
11:32That was your dream.
11:34And now, O king, listen to its meaning.
11:37You are the head of gold.
11:39Your empire is glorious, strong, unrivaled.
11:43But after you, another kingdom will arise,
11:46inferior to yours.
11:48Then another, and another.
11:50Until a final kingdom rises,
11:53Divided, weak, and fragmented.
11:57But in the end,
11:58God will establish a kingdom that will never be destroyed.
12:03That kingdom will not be like the others.
12:05It will not pass from one people to another.
12:08It will endure forever.
12:11That stone you saw
12:12is the eternal kingdom of God.
12:15The throne room fell silent.
12:19Nebuchadnezzar looked at Daniel.
12:21He looked at the magicians and astrologers
12:23who had been unable to tell him anything.
12:27And then, he bowed before Daniel.
12:30Truly, your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings.
12:36He is the one who reveals hidden mysteries.
12:39From that day on,
12:42Daniel was exalted in Babylon.
12:45He became the chief governor
12:46over the entire province
12:48and the head of the wise men.
12:51But Daniel knew something the king did not yet understand.
12:55Nebuchadnezzar might feel invincible.
12:58But his kingdom, like all others,
13:01would one day fall.
13:02The years passed
13:10and Babylon continued its dominion over the world.
13:15Nebuchadnezzar, at the height of his power,
13:17did not forget the dream of the statue.
13:20But in his heart,
13:21he refused to accept its destiny.
13:24If he was the head of gold,
13:26why should he allow another kingdom to replace him?
13:29So he made a decision.
13:30He ordered the construction of a statue
13:33entirely of gold,
13:35a colossal image over 27 meters tall.
13:38Not just the head,
13:40but the entire statue
13:41as a declaration of his desire.
13:44His kingdom would not end.
13:46He commanded all the rulers,
13:48princes, and wise men of his empire
13:50to gather on the plain of Dura
13:52for the dedication of the statue.
13:55Then the voice of the herald
13:57proclaimed in a loud and solemn tone,
13:59To you it is commanded,
14:05O peoples, nations, and languages,
14:07when you hear the sound of the trumpet,
14:09the flute, the harp,
14:10and all kinds of music,
14:12you shall fall down
14:13and worship the golden image
14:14that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up,
14:17and whoever does not fall down and worship
14:19shall be cast immediately
14:21into the midst of a burning, fiery furnace.
14:23And the music played.
14:34Thousands of people fell to their knees
14:35before the image.
14:37From the highest governor
14:38to the humblest citizen,
14:40all bowed down.
14:42All,
14:43except three.
14:44The rulers of Babylon,
14:48seeing that some had not knelt,
14:50rushed to inform the king.
14:52It was then that the Babylonian officials said,
14:55Nebuchadnezzar was filled with fury.
15:20He summoned the three young men
15:21and gave them one last chance.
15:25Nebuchadnezzar,
15:25in a threatening tone,
15:27said to them,
15:29Is it true,
15:30Shadrach,
15:31Meshach,
15:32and Abednego,
15:34that you do not worship my statue?
15:37I will give you one last chance.
15:40When you hear the music,
15:42fall down and worship,
15:43for if you do not,
15:46you will be cast into the fiery furnace,
15:49and then what God can deliver you from my hand.
15:53But the young men did not tremble.
15:56Shadrach,
15:57with a firm voice,
15:58spoke these words.
16:00O Nebuchadnezzar,
16:01we have no need to answer you in this matter.
16:04Our God,
16:05whom we serve,
16:07is able to deliver us from the fiery furnace.
16:11And he will deliver us from your hand,
16:13O King.
16:15But even if he does not,
16:17we will not worship your statue.
16:21The king's face twisted with rage.
16:24He ordered the furnace to be heated
16:26seven times hotter than usual.
16:28He commanded the strongest men in his army
16:30to bind the three young men
16:32and throw them into the fire.
16:35The flames were so intense
16:36that the soldiers who threw them in
16:38were killed by the heat
16:39as they approached.
16:41The bodies of the young men
16:43disappeared into the flames.
16:45To everyone,
16:46it was the end.
16:48But at that very moment,
16:50Nebuchadnezzar,
16:51watching from his throne,
16:53suddenly stood up in surprise
16:55and said,
16:56Wait,
17:00did we not throw three bound men
17:02into the fire?
17:05And his guard replied,
17:10Yes, O King.
17:12But I see four,
17:14and they are not bound.
17:16They are walking in the midst of the fire
17:19without harm.
17:20And the fourth,
17:22the fourth,
17:24looks like a son of the gods.
17:30The onlookers peered into the furnace
17:32and saw what seemed impossible.
17:36Shadrach,
17:36Meshach,
17:37and Abednego were there,
17:39but they were not alone.
17:41A luminous figure walked among them,
17:44a being that no man of Babylon
17:46could explain.
17:47And then,
17:48Nebuchadnezzar,
17:50trembling,
17:51approached and shouted
17:52toward the furnace.
17:56Shadrach,
17:57Meshach,
17:58and Abednego,
18:00servants of the Most High God,
18:02come out and come forth.
18:04And the three young men
18:07emerged from the flames.
18:09The fire had not touched their bodies.
18:12Not a single hair on their heads
18:13was singed.
18:14Their clothes did not even smell of smoke.
18:18The silence was absolute.
18:20Everyone knew what this meant.
18:23The God of Israel had answered.
18:26Nebuchadnezzar,
18:26the most powerful monarch on earth,
18:29fell to his knees.
18:30Blessed be the God of Shadrach,
18:35Meshach,
18:36and Abednego.
18:37No other God can deliver like this.
18:41From this day forward,
18:42I decree that no one in all my kingdom
18:45shall speak a word against their God,
18:49for there is no other like him.
18:51The king honored the three young men
18:55and promoted them in Babylon.
18:58But while Babylon celebrated
18:59the greatness of this miracle,
19:02Nebuchadnezzar had not yet learned
19:03the most important lesson.
19:06Soon,
19:06he himself would experience
19:08the power of the Most High God.
19:10Despite all he had seen,
19:19despite the dreams revealed,
19:22despite witnessing with his own eyes
19:24the miracle of the fiery furnace,
19:27Nebuchadnezzar still did not understand
19:29the most important truth.
19:31His power was not his own.
19:33His glory was not his own.
19:35His kingdom existed only because
19:37God had allowed it.
19:38But in his heart,
19:40he still believed his greatness was eternal.
19:43Until a new warning came.
19:45One night the king had another dream.
19:48A dream that deeply troubled him.
19:50He called the wise men of Babylon.
19:53But none could explain it.
19:55Until Daniel was summoned.
20:00Beldishazer,
20:01chief of the wise men,
20:03I know that the spirit of the gods
20:04dwells in you.
20:06No mystery is hidden from you.
20:07Listen to my dream
20:09and tell me its interpretation.
20:13The king began to recount.
20:16In my dream,
20:17I saw a great tree
20:19in the midst of the earth.
20:21Its height reached to the heavens.
20:24Its branches extended
20:25to the ends of the earth.
20:27Its fruit fed all creatures.
20:30But then,
20:32a watcher descended from heaven.
20:34A messenger and with a loud voice proclaimed.
20:38Chop down the tree.
20:43Cut off its branches.
20:44Scatter its fruit.
20:46But leave the stump with its roots in the earth,
20:49bound with iron and bronze.
20:51Let him be humbled.
20:53Let his mind be changed.
20:55Let him become like the beasts of the field.
20:58And let it be so for seven times,
21:01until all may know
21:02that the Most High rules
21:04over the kingdoms of men
21:05and gives it to whomever he wills.
21:13Daniel listened carefully.
21:15His face grew pale.
21:17He knew what the dream meant.
21:19But he did not want to say it.
21:21The message was clear.
21:22And it was not good for the king.
21:25It was then that Daniel thought.
21:31My heart was troubled.
21:33I wished this dream applied to the king's enemies,
21:36not to him.
21:38But God had shown me its meaning,
21:40and I could not remain silent.
21:45Daniel addressed Nebuchadnezzar and said,
21:48O king,
21:53the tree you saw
21:55is you.
21:57Your greatness has reached
21:58to the ends of the earth.
22:00Your power is unmatched.
22:03But the day will come
22:04when you will be cut down.
22:06You will be driven away from mankind.
22:09You will live with the beasts of the field.
22:12You will eat grass like oxen.
22:14Your body will be drenched
22:16with the dew of heaven.
22:18And this will last for seven times
22:20until you acknowledge
22:21that the Most High rules
22:23over the kingdoms of men.
22:25But the stump of your tree
22:27will remain with its roots
22:28because your kingdom
22:30will be restored to you
22:31when you recognize
22:32that God alone is sovereign.
22:36O king,
22:37heed my advice.
22:39Break away from your sins.
22:41Do what is right.
22:43Show mercy to the poor.
22:46Perhaps then your peace
22:47will be prolonged
22:48The king listened in silence,
22:54but his heart remained hardened.
22:57Months passed.
22:58Twelve months.
23:00Time to repent.
23:01Time to change.
23:03But Nebuchadnezzar did not change
23:05until the day came
23:07when his pride was shattered.
23:09It was a golden afternoon
23:10over Babylon.
23:12The king walked through
23:13the halls of his palace,
23:14gazing at the city he had built.
23:16His eyes swept over the temples,
23:19the walls,
23:20the hanging gardens.
23:22And in his heart,
23:23there was only one certainty.
23:25He had achieved it all.
23:26Is this not the great Babylon
23:31I have built by my mighty power
23:33and for the glory of my majesty?
23:35And at that very moment,
23:39while the words were still on his lips,
23:42a voice came from heaven and said,
23:44To you it is declared,
23:49O king Nebuchadnezzar,
23:51your kingdom is taken from you.
23:54You will be driven away from mankind.
23:57You will live with the beasts of the field.
23:59You will eat grass like oxen,
24:02and seven times will pass over you
24:04until you acknowledge
24:06that the Most High rules
24:07over the kingdoms of men.
24:12And in an instant,
24:14the king's mind changed.
24:16His reason vanished.
24:18His human thoughts disappeared.
24:20His hands trembled.
24:21His body bent.
24:23His skin touched the ground.
24:24And Nebuchadnezzar,
24:26the most powerful monarch in the world,
24:29fell to his knees like an animal.
24:32The palace gates opened
24:33and the servants screamed in horror.
24:36For the great king of Babylon
24:38was no longer a man.
24:43The days passed.
24:45The months.
24:46The years.
24:48Nebuchadnezzar lived in the fields.
24:50His clothes became rags.
24:52His hair grew like eagle's feathers.
24:53His nails like the claws of beasts.
24:57And his food was grass from the field.
25:00Babylon had a new king.
25:02Nebuchadnezzar had become
25:03what his heart reflected.
25:05An animal.
25:06Until the prophetic times were fulfilled.
25:09Seven years later.
25:11One day,
25:12as the wind swept across the plains,
25:15something changed.
25:20My eyes were opened.
25:22I looked up to heaven.
25:24And in that instant,
25:27my reason returned to me.
25:32Nebuchadnezzar fell to his knees.
25:35But this time,
25:35not out of pride.
25:37Not out of greatness.
25:38But out of surrender.
25:39Now I praise and exalt the Most High.
25:44I honor and glorify him
25:46who lives forever.
25:49For his dominion is eternal.
25:51And his kingdom
25:52endures through all generations.
25:55He does as he pleases
25:57with the kingdoms of the earth.
25:59And no one can stop his hand.
26:02And at that very moment,
26:06his kingdom was restored to him.
26:08His glory returned.
26:10His princes sought him out.
26:12And Nebuchadnezzar sat once more
26:14on the throne of Babylon.
26:16But he was never the same again.
26:18For now he knew the truth.
26:20There was no other king.
26:22There was no other power.
26:24God alone rules over the kingdoms of the earth.
26:27The years passed.
26:35Nebuchadnezzar died.
26:37And with him,
26:38the era of his absolute dominion.
26:41Babylon remained the jewel of the world.
26:44But the seed of its downfall
26:45had already been planted.
26:47A new king sat on the throne.
26:50Belshazzar, son of Nebonidus.
26:53A weak king.
26:54An arrogant king.
26:55A king who did not learn from history.
26:59Babylon seemed invincible.
27:01Its walls were impregnable.
27:03No army had ever conquered it.
27:05But in the shadows,
27:07a threat was growing.
27:09To the east,
27:10the army of the Medes and Persians was rising.
27:13Led by a man whose name would soon be feared.
27:17Cyrus, the conqueror.
27:19The Persian troops were approaching.
27:21But Belshazzar had no fear.
27:23While his enemies plotted his downfall.
27:27He celebrated.
27:29It was a night of feasting in Babylon.
27:31The city gates were closed.
27:33The walls guarded.
27:35King Belshazzar felt secure.
27:38So he hosted a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles.
27:42Music.
27:43Wine.
27:44Women.
27:44But the king's pride went too far.
27:48Then Belshazzar said,
27:51Bring the gold and silver cups,
27:53the ones my father took from the temple of the Hebrews.
27:56Let us drink from them in honor of our gods.
27:58The servants brought the sacred vessels
28:03that Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem.
28:08And with them in their hands,
28:10the king and his nobles
28:11toasted in honor of their gods
28:13of gold, silver, bronze, and stone.
28:17But in the midst of the celebration,
28:20something changed.
28:22The music stopped.
28:23The laughter ceased.
28:25The dancers froze.
28:27Because on the palace wall,
28:29something impossible was happening.
28:32A hand.
28:33A human hand.
28:34But with no body.
28:36It appeared, floating in the darkness.
28:39And it began to write.
28:41The letters glowed with fire.
28:51The words were strange.
28:53Fear filled the room.
28:55The king's face turned pale as death.
28:58His knees trembled.
28:59His heart pounded.
29:01Belshazzar, with a voice of terror, said,
29:05Bring the wise men, the magicians, the astrologers.
29:09Let them tell me what this means.
29:11The wisest men of Babylon gathered.
29:16They looked at the writing.
29:18They studied it.
29:19But no one could read it.
29:21No one could understand its words.
29:24And the king's fear grew even greater.
29:27Until his mother, the queen, approached and said,
29:31O king, do not be troubled.
29:37There is a man in your kingdom
29:38in whom the spirit of the gods dwells.
29:41In the days of your father,
29:44he interpreted dreams and solved mysteries.
29:47His name is Daniel.
29:49And so Daniel was brought before the king.
29:56Belshazzar looked at him urgently and said,
29:58Are you that Daniel, the wise man of my father?
30:04If you can interpret this writing,
30:06you will be clothed in purple,
30:07given a gold chain,
30:08and made the third ruler in the kingdom.
30:10But Daniel, with a firm voice, replied,
30:15Keep your gifts for yourself,
30:18your gold,
30:19give it to someone else,
30:21but I will tell you what the writing means.
30:25Daniel looked at the wall.
30:27The letters still glowed.
30:28The judgment was written.
30:31But before revealing it,
30:32Daniel spoke.
30:34O king, listen to my words.
30:38Your father, Nebuchadnezzar,
30:40was exalted over all the earth.
30:43But when his heart became filled with pride,
30:46he was brought low.
30:48He became like a beast
30:49until he acknowledged that the most high rules
30:53over the kingdoms of men.
30:54But you, O Belshazzar,
30:57have not learned from his story.
31:00You have lifted your heart
31:02against the God of heaven.
31:03You have taken the vessels from his temple
31:06and defiled them.
31:08You have praised gods
31:09that cannot see, hear, or know.
31:13Therefore, God has sent this hand
31:15and this writing.
31:19Daniel pointed to the wall.
31:21The entire room held its breath.
31:22The fate of the kingdom
31:24was about to be revealed.
31:27By this is what is written,
31:30Many, many,
31:32Tikal, Parson.
31:34This is the interpretation.
31:36Many, God has numbered the days of your kingdom
31:39and brought it to an end.
31:41Tikal, you have been weighed on the scales
31:44and found wanting.
31:46Parson, your kingdom has been divided
31:48and given to the Medes and Persians.
31:51The words hung in the air like a death sentence.
32:01Belshazzar trembled.
32:03But there was no time to react
32:05because at that very moment,
32:08the Persians were already inside Babylon.
32:11In the darkness,
32:12Cyrus the Great had devised a brilliant plan.
32:16He had diverted the flow of the Euphrates River,
32:18which ran through the city.
32:21And while Belshazzar drank and mocked God,
32:24the Persian soldiers marched through the dry riverbed,
32:28entering without resistance through the city walls.
32:31And in a single night,
32:33Babylon fell.
32:35Belshazzar was killed.
32:37The most powerful empire in the world
32:39crumbled in an instant.
32:41And the kingdom of the Medes and Persians
32:43rose in its place.
32:44Just as God had said,
32:46just as Daniel had proclaimed.
32:49For the kingdoms of men pass away,
32:51but the dominion of God is eternal.
32:54Babylon had fallen.
33:10The Medes and Persians now ruled the empire.
33:14King Cyrus appointed Darius the Mede
33:16as governor of Babylon and its provinces.
33:19But though the kings had changed,
33:25Daniel remained in his position of authority.
33:29His wisdom, integrity, and discernment
33:32set him apart among all the rulers of the new kingdom.
33:36And Darius placed him over all the princes
33:38and satraps of the empire.
33:41But this stirred envy and hatred.
33:44For when a man is faithful to God,
33:46there will always be those who despise him.
33:50The princes and nobles of the kingdom
33:51gathered in secret.
33:53It was then that the Mede prince said the following.
34:01This Daniel.
34:03Why does he rule over us?
34:06A foreigner?
34:07A Hebrew?
34:08He has been exalted by every king,
34:10and now he rules over us as well.
34:12And the Persian prince replied,
34:19We must find something against him.
34:21Some error, some fault.
34:24But they searched and found nothing.
34:28Daniel was just.
34:29There was no corruption in him.
34:31So they devised a plan.
34:35We know that Daniel is faithful to his God
34:38more than he is to the king.
34:40Then, let us use that against him.
34:45The princes approached Darius with flattering words.
34:50O King Darius, live forever.
34:52We have decided to establish a decree
34:54to exalt your glory.
34:58Order that for the next thirty days
35:00no one may make a petition to any god or any man,
35:03except to you, O King.
35:04And whoever does not obey
35:09shall be thrown into the lion's den.
35:13King Darius, flattered by their words,
35:16signed the decree without suspecting their true intent.
35:20The edict became law,
35:22unchangeable, irrevocable.
35:24And Daniel knew it.
35:26Daniel heard the decree.
35:28He knew what it meant.
35:30He knew what it would cost him.
35:31But his heart did not waver.
35:34He did not alter his routine.
35:36He did not change his custom.
35:39And when the time for prayer came,
35:41Daniel did the following.
35:44I went up to my room.
35:46I opened the windows facing Jerusalem.
35:49And as I had always done,
35:51I knelt and prayed.
35:53And in the street,
35:57Daniel's enemies were waiting.
36:00We have him.
36:02The princes rushed to the palace.
36:05They approached Darius with feigned concern.
36:09O King, did you not sign a decree
36:12forbidding prayer to any god but you?
36:15King Darius replied,
36:18Indeed,
36:19and the law of the Medes and Persians
36:21cannot be revoked.
36:23Well then, O King,
36:27Daniel, your governor,
36:29has disobeyed you.
36:30Three times a day he prays to his god
36:33and has violated your decree.
36:37The king's face turned pale.
36:40In an instant,
36:41he realized he had been deceived,
36:43that his most faithful servant
36:45was in danger because of his own decision.
36:47But the law was irrevocable.
36:51There was no escape.
36:54Then King Darius said with sadness,
36:57Take him to the den.
37:02Night fell over Babylon.
37:05The soldiers led Daniel to the stone pit
37:07where the beasts roared.
37:09The torches illuminated the hungry eyes of the lions.
37:13King Darius was there.
37:15He looked at Daniel with sorrow in his heart and said,
37:18Your god,
37:22whom you serve continually,
37:25he will deliver you.
37:30The soldiers pushed Daniel.
37:32His body fell into the den.
37:34The roar of the lions filled the air.
37:37The stone was placed over the mouth of the den.
37:40And the king sealed the entrance with his royal ring.
37:44That night.
37:47Darius could not sleep.
37:49There was no music.
37:50No feast.
37:51In his heart,
37:52a question burned.
37:54Could Daniel's god truly deliver him?
37:58At dawn,
37:59the king ran to the den.
38:01He ordered the stone to be removed.
38:04And with bated breath,
38:05he cried out in a trembling voice,
38:07Daniel,
38:11servant of the living god.
38:14Has your god been able to deliver you from the lions?
38:19For a moment,
38:20there was only silence
38:22until a calm voice emerged from the darkness.
38:26O king,
38:28live forever.
38:30My god sent his angel
38:32and shut the mouths of the lions.
38:35They have not harmed me.
38:37For I was found innocent before him.
38:40And I have done no wrong before you,
38:43O king.
38:45The guards looked into the den.
38:48And what they saw was impossible.
38:50Daniel was standing,
38:52without a wound,
38:53without a scratch.
38:55The lions,
38:56which had devoured so many before him,
38:58were by his side,
39:00silent and tame.
39:01Darius fell to his knees,
39:05and with a trembling voice,
39:07he ordered Daniel to be brought out.
39:10And when his enemies were thrown into the den,
39:13the lions devoured them before they even hit the ground.
39:16That same morning,
39:20King Darius wrote a decree for the entire empire.
39:22To all peoples,
39:26nations,
39:26and languages that dwell in all the earth,
39:30peace be multiplied to you.
39:32By royal decree,
39:34it is ordered that in all my kingdom,
39:37men must tremble and fear
39:38before the God of Daniel,
39:41for he is the living God.
39:43His kingdom shall never be destroyed,
39:45and his dominion shall endure forever.
39:49He saves,
39:50he delivers,
39:50and he works signs and wonders
39:52in heaven and on earth.
39:54For he has delivered Daniel
39:56from the power of the lions.
40:00And so,
40:01Daniel prospered in the kingdom of Darius,
40:04and later,
40:05in the kingdom of Cyrus the Great.
40:08For though empires change,
40:10and kings pass away,
40:12God remains king.
40:15Daniel had served kings,
40:18he had seen empires fall and rise.
40:21But what he was about to see
40:22went beyond his time,
40:25beyond Babylon,
40:26beyond Persia.
40:28For in the first year of Belshazzar's reign,
40:31when Babylon still ruled the earth,
40:34Daniel had a dream,
40:36a vision that would reveal
40:37the destiny of the world.
40:42I saw the great sea churned
40:44by the winds of heaven,
40:45and from its waters
40:46emerged four great beasts,
40:50each one different from the others.
40:53The first
40:53was like a lion with eagle's wings.
40:57I saw its wings torn off.
41:00It was lifted up
41:01and made to stand on two feet like a man,
41:03and it was given the heart of a man.
41:06After that,
41:07I saw another beast,
41:09like a bear.
41:10It was raised up on one side,
41:13and had three ribs in its mouth.
41:16Then came a third beast,
41:18like a leopard with four wings and four heads.
41:21And finally,
41:23I saw a fourth beast,
41:26terrible,
41:27dreadful,
41:28different from all the others.
41:31With iron teeth,
41:32it devoured,
41:33crushed,
41:34and trampled everything in its path.
41:35It was the most powerful of all,
41:38and it had ten horns on its head.
41:42And as I watched,
41:43I saw that among them
41:45came another little horn,
41:46and this horn had eyes like a man,
41:50and a mouth that spoke boastful words.
41:52Daniel trembled.
41:57What did these beasts mean?
42:00What was that arrogant horn
42:01that defied heaven?
42:03But before he could receive the answer,
42:06his vision changed,
42:08for the kingdoms of the earth
42:09were not all that Daniel would see.
42:13I kept looking,
42:15and I saw thrones set in place,
42:17and the Ancient of Days took his seat.
42:20His clothing was white as snow,
42:23his hair like pure wool,
42:25his throne was flames of fire,
42:28and a river of fire flowed from it.
42:31Thousands upon thousands served him,
42:34millions upon millions stood before him,
42:37and I saw that the books were opened.
42:40Then I looked,
42:41and I saw one like a son of man,
42:44coming with the clouds of heaven.
42:46He approached the Ancient of Days,
42:48and was given dominion,
42:51glory,
42:51and a kingdom.
42:53His dominion is everlasting.
42:55His kingdom will never be destroyed.
42:59My spirit was troubled within me.
43:02I wanted to know the truth
43:03about the fourth beast,
43:05about that little horn
43:06that spoke arrogant words,
43:08and waged war against the saints.
43:12And an angel approached Daniel
43:14to explain the mystery,
43:16and he said the following,
43:18Ah, these four beasts
43:22are four kingdoms
43:23that will rise on the earth,
43:25but the kingdom of the saints
43:27will endure forever.
43:29The fourth beast
43:31will be the most terrible of all.
43:33It will be different from the others.
43:35It will conquer the earth
43:37with iron and destruction.
43:39From it will come ten kings,
43:41and after them
43:42a little horn will rise.
43:45This horn will speak blasphemies
43:47against the Most High.
43:49It will oppress the saints.
43:51It will try to change
43:52the times and the law,
43:54and its power will last for a time,
43:57times and half a time.
44:00But in the end,
44:01the heavenly court will sit,
44:04its dominion will be taken away,
44:06and the kingdom will be given
44:07to the people of the Most High.
44:10Daniel awoke with a pale face.
44:14His body trembled.
44:16My spirit was troubled.
44:18I did not fully understand
44:20all I had seen.
44:22But I knew this.
44:25The kingdoms of men
44:26will pass away.
44:28And in the end,
44:30God will establish
44:32his kingdom forever.
44:33Daniel had seen the destiny
44:40of the kingdoms of the world.
44:42He had beheld the glory
44:44of God's eternal kingdom.
44:46But one question
44:47remained in his heart.
44:49When would his people
44:50be restored?
44:51When would the exile end?
44:53When would they return
44:54to Jerusalem?
44:56So Daniel opened
44:57the scrolls of the prophets
44:58and read the words
45:00of Jeremiah.
45:01That I saw in the books
45:05that God had said,
45:07Seventy years will pass
45:09for the desolation
45:10of Jerusalem.
45:12Daniel fell to his knees
45:14and he began to pray.
45:17O Lord,
45:18great and awesome God,
45:21we have sinned.
45:22We have turned away
45:24from your commandments.
45:26We have been unfaithful
45:27and so your judgment
45:28has fallen upon us.
45:30But now, O God,
45:32hear my prayer.
45:34Look upon the desolation
45:35of your people.
45:36Incline your ear.
45:38Forgive our sins.
45:40And turn your face
45:40toward your holy city.
45:43As Daniel prayed,
45:46God sent an answer.
45:48An angel descended
45:49from heaven.
45:50It was Gabriel.
45:52And with a firm voice,
45:54he spoke to the prophet.
45:56O Daniel,
45:57man greatly beloved,
45:59I have come to give you
46:01wisdom and understanding.
46:03Seventy weeks are determined
46:04for your people
46:05to finish the transgression,
46:08to put an end to sin,
46:09to make atonement
46:10for iniquity,
46:11to bring in everlasting righteousness.
46:14from the decree
46:16to restore Jerusalem.
46:18Until the Messiah,
46:19the prince,
46:20there will be seven weeks
46:21and sixty-two weeks.
46:24After that,
46:25the Messiah will be cut off,
46:27but not for himself.
46:29And the people of a prince
46:30who is to come
46:31will destroy the city
46:33and the sanctuary.
46:34Its end will come
46:35with a flood.
46:36And until the end,
46:38there will be war
46:39and desolations determined.
46:41He will confirm a covenant
46:42for one week,
46:44but in the middle of the week,
46:45he will put an end
46:46to sacrifice an offering.
46:48And on the city
46:49will come the abomination
46:50of desolation,
46:52until the judgment
46:53is poured out
46:53on the desolator.
46:57Daniel listened in silence.
47:00The words were mysterious,
47:02but they contained
47:03the secret of the time
47:04of the Messiah
47:05and the revelation
47:06of what would come
47:07upon his people.
47:08But this was not
47:10the last vision
47:11Daniel would receive.
47:13For in the third year
47:14of Cyrus,
47:15king of Persia,
47:17a new revelation
47:18came to him.
47:21I, Daniel,
47:22was mourning
47:23for three weeks.
47:25I ate no delicacies.
47:26I drank no wine.
47:28I used no perfume.
47:30And on the twenty-fourth day
47:32of the first month,
47:33I was by the bank
47:34of the great Tigris River,
47:36and I lifted my eyes,
47:38and I saw a man
47:39clothed in linen.
47:41His waist was girded
47:43with pure gold.
47:44His face shone
47:45like lightning.
47:47His eyes were
47:47like flaming torches.
47:50His voice was like
47:50the roar of many waters.
47:53And when I saw him,
47:55I lost all strength.
47:57My face touched the ground,
47:59and my spirit
48:00was troubled within me.
48:02Daniel had seen
48:06the messenger from heaven.
48:07The radiance of his glory
48:09brought him to his knees.
48:11But a hand touched him
48:12and strengthened him.
48:16Ah, do not fear, Daniel.
48:18From the first day
48:19you set your heart
48:20to understand,
48:21your words were heard.
48:24But the prince
48:25of the kingdom of Persia
48:26withstood me
48:27for twenty-one days.
48:28And I have come
48:30to reveal to you
48:31what will happen
48:32in the latter days.
48:34For this vision
48:34is for the time
48:36of the end.
48:38Then Daniel received
48:40the last
48:40and most extensive prophecy.
48:43A vision
48:44about future kingdoms.
48:45About wars
48:46between Persia
48:47and Greece.
48:48About a fierce king
48:49who would rise
48:50in the final days.
48:52And about
48:52a tribulation
48:54that would shake humanity.
48:55At that time,
49:00Michael,
49:00the great prince
49:02who stands watch
49:03over the sons
49:03of your people
49:04will arise.
49:06And there will be
49:07a time of trouble
49:07such as never was
49:09since there was a nation.
49:12But at that time,
49:14your people
49:14shall be delivered.
49:16And many of those
49:18who sleep
49:18in the dust
49:19of the earth
49:19shall awake,
49:22some to everlasting life
49:23and some to shame
49:25and everlasting contempt.
49:28Those who are wise
49:29shall shine
49:29like the brightness
49:30of the firmament
49:31and those who turn
49:33many to righteousness
49:34like the stars
49:36forever and ever.
49:39But you, Daniel,
49:41shut up the words
49:42and seal the book
49:43until the time
49:45of the end.
49:47Many shall run
49:48to and fro
49:48and knowledge
49:50shall increase.
49:51Daniel trembled.
49:56He had seen
49:57the destiny
49:57of his people,
49:58the rise and fall
49:59of empires,
50:01the sacrifice
50:01of the Messiah,
50:03the time of trouble
50:04and the resurrection
50:05of the dead.
50:06But now,
50:08the vision
50:08had ended.
50:11I heard,
50:12but I did not
50:13understand.
50:14And I asked,
50:16My Lord,
50:18what will be
50:20the end
50:20of these things?
50:22Go your way,
50:24Daniel,
50:25for these words
50:26are closed up
50:27and sealed.
50:28Until the time
50:29of the end,
50:30many shall be purified,
50:33but the wicked
50:34shall not understand,
50:36yet the wise
50:37shall understand.
50:39You, Daniel,
50:40rest,
50:41and at the end
50:42of days,
50:43you shall rise
50:44to receive
50:45your inheritance.
50:48And so,
50:49the book of Daniel
50:50ended,
50:51with mysteries
50:52still unrevealed,
50:54with visions
50:54still awaiting
50:55their fulfillment,
50:56but with an
50:57unshakable certainty.
50:59God governs
51:00history.
51:01Empires pass,
51:03kings change,
51:04but his kingdom
51:05remains.
51:07And at the end
51:07of days,
51:09the righteous
51:09will awake
51:10and shine
51:11like the stars.
51:13forever.
