Debt collectors hope you don’t know this loophole.
When an original creditor sells your debt, the new collection agency has no original contract with you. That means they must prove you owe them—or they legally have to remove it. And guess what? Most of them can’t.
This applies to: Student loans, hospital bills, repos, evictions, collections, and late payments. If they can’t provide real proof that you owe them, the law says they can’t report it. But they’re betting you won’t fight back.
