00:03I'm here for the role of Billy.
00:05This is Billy.
00:07How would I summarize the story of Billy Tipton?
00:10He was a transmasculine jazz musician.
00:13Billy Tipton was the first time I encountered transmasculinity.
00:17Those of us in this generation, we are public in a way that so many trans people before us haven't been able to be.
00:23It's scary when centuries of your survival have been based on not being seen.
00:29And you have no models. You have no history.
00:31It's like you never existed, but you know you must have.
00:33And then you see Billy Tipton and you think,
00:35people like me existed and they did things. They were jazz musicians.
00:38They'd be one of the greatest jazz musicians ever.
00:39So that you're looking for someone who exists like you so you're not alone.
00:44No matter what he was, I loved him just the way he was.
00:47Lots of people in my community look to your dad as a hero.
00:51It kind of blows me away that after all these years, anybody even remembers him.
00:59Don't forget to meet me.
01:01Let's pray.
01:02God bless you, I love you.
