00:00but considering the texas longhorns are one of the top teams in the country they've made the

00:05playoff the last couple of years uh they spend lots of money themselves we need steve sarkeesian's

00:10take on it and of course scotty he's gonna sell you you know there's only so much money we could

00:15spend at texas you know there's only so much that we could do here here's sark we only have so much

00:20money to go around and so we've got to do a great job evaluating we've got to do a great job of

00:25rewarding those players that are doing it at a high level within our program so that they don't

00:30go anywhere else but we've also got to continue to develop our players as they grow um and and make

00:36sure that our players aren't doing this for the idea of money and i think sometimes quite frankly i think

00:42it hurts us a little bit in recruiting in the fact that when kids come on our campus one of the first

00:48things we do we don't talk about nil we don't talk about nil or revenue sharing or publicity rights

00:53until the very end and that may hurt us on some kids but if a kid is coming to texas for that

01:00reason we don't want them anyway you know we want kids that want to be at the university of texas

01:04because of the school the coaches the team the culture all those things that go into it and oh by

01:10the way you can get you can get publicity rights or revenue share so on and so forth if you're coming

01:15for the other reason he's probably going to be the guy in 18 months that's back in the portal going

01:19somewhere somewhere else where they're going to offer him more money because i can't offer every

01:24player the most money that he might get offered from another school it just doesn't work like that

01:28anymore yeah i uh i believed about two percent of that speech and i certainly uh didn't believe him

01:37when he said we only have so much money they have more money than god at austin who are you kidding

01:43and then he when he rattled off all the reasons you go to uh austin he said the school but he didn't

01:51say for an education i mean i guess the school means to party because once you get paid all that money

01:58if you're getting paid millions to play football there education my ass there's no one going to class

02:06i i don't i'll never believe it anymore there those days are over going for an education that's

02:13hilarious to me now listen when i told you i played ball the other day with a kid at princeton

02:18and this kid's an incredible player like you go to princeton you get an ivy league education you're

02:24better off getting that than playing basketball at princeton believe me you or and i guarantee you they

02:30don't pay the players at princeton the way they pay them in austin uh i can i mean that's just

02:36automatic but i will take that ivy league education over uh frankly an education in austin texas at ut

02:45uh any day of the week but you notice all the things he said we don't talk about nil money i don't believe

02:52that for a minute i believe when they go to recruit them they start offering them money and that's just all

02:58there is to it the only way to get the best players in the country to play in your program

03:03nowadays is to pay them a lot of money they're still getting around it let's stop with all this

03:08bullshack uh especially when there's videos out there and look it is what it is like recruits

03:15coming to visit texas and sarks like at the front door of the practice facility there's like

03:1915 lamborghinis lined up uh outside the practice facility you know like it's just come on it's not

03:26discussed like it gets serious sark nobody believes are you kidding of course on the actual football

03:32field uh texas is one of the top choices to win the national title this year coming off again

03:38a loss in the semi-final when they lost to ohio state a year ago here is sark saying that his

03:44football team's very hungry but i think the key for us this fall is going to go we got to go enjoy

03:49this journey we need to be present we need to be present in the moment enjoy the journey and then

03:54ultimately finish the mission right we've been close we've been there we've been knocking on the

03:59door the last two years but to go do that we need to take it one step at a time as we as we embark on

04:05the summit that we're looking for and that's going to take great discipline it's going to take great

04:09commitment it's going to great take great toughness mental and physical toughness that's needed and it's

04:14going to take accountability for our actions and doing our job and so i think we've got the culture

04:18in place to do that well and the money like they have the money to make it happen now look

04:26if he doesn't get it done year after year like now it's one thing you know these guys like freeman

04:34getting deep into the playoff getting into you know bcs title games getting into the playoff and going on a

04:42run and getting you know into the 70s or the final that's good business for steve sarkisian for

04:48notre dame for ohio state whatever they're not firing steve sarkisian if he goes to the final every

04:54year but i can guarantee you one thing if they keep losing uh in the playoff in the final uh the fans

05:02in austin will turn on him i i truly believe that that finishing runner up every year is going to get

05:11real old for them even though anywhere else they would they would kill to be in the final every

05:17year of the college football playoff but at austin if you go and lose in the final every year eventually

05:23they're going to turn on you it's no different than uh losing at kentucky in basketball eventually

05:28they fire you they're just not going to have it
