00:00Here are 10,000 bees and over the next hundred days they'll live in my home
00:08But becoming a hive means fighting fear death and war
00:14Their survival means everything to the queen to the planet and now to me the only problem
00:23I've never done this before
00:25Oh
00:27No, no, no that one just stung me look at him if I could find the queen the rest of the bees will follow me home
00:34But there is a catch
00:36They all look the same. They all look the same
00:41The bees will do anything to protect their queen
00:45She is the one who started this and she is the only one who can finish it
00:49What and then I noticed it they weren't just flying they were marching marching to their queen
01:03Queen Queen Queen Queen after an hour of pain. I had finally found her the leader of the hive
01:11But my journey is a beekeeper has only just begun and
01:19With the queen captured the bees made their way inside
01:24But when I brought them home, I knew they would not be safe for long
01:28Too many bees in too little space. I didn't have much time
01:34I
01:36I
01:38Decided to turn my cabinet into a beehive a tube lets them travel between the inside and outside world
01:47But to move the bees in I have to wait for nightfall
01:53These cannot fly in the dark so this should be easy
01:57The first step is to get the queen
02:04But they were extremely defensive. I have to be careful not to cause alarm
02:10One wrong move and the whole colony will panic
02:14So I gently place the queen into the hive the rest of the bees should follow her scent
02:21They didn't move didn't care, so I tried scooping them into the entrance, but this caused them to panic
02:32Help help help
02:34The bees had no idea where to go. I forgot to zip up the bee suit
02:39They swarmed the cameras the lights and even our heads. You hear them? Uh-huh. Oh, I hear them
02:46A little in my head the bees were lost and couldn't find their queen. Oh, hello
02:51Oh
02:52But a few began fanning their wings
02:57They are spreading the scent of the queen
03:01The others could smell it
03:04And
03:06Pretty soon the bees were marching marching to their queen
03:16It was almost unbelievable I
03:19I decided to let them be
03:22Overnight
03:23Overnight
03:24And over the coming days their lives are about to change forever
03:29Thanks to the internet browser Opera
03:31Wait, what?
03:32When I began my bee research I had over 40 tabs open
03:36Which is a total mess
03:38But I can use Opera's built-in AI tool Aria to instantly organize my tabs
03:43Whoa, and they can be expanded or collapsed with a single click
03:48But it even caught this bee's attention
03:50If I take a picture of her I can use Aria's image recognition tool to analyze and explain the photo
03:57And Aria can make custom images as well
03:59You wish that was you
04:02And thanks to the floating music player I can control my music without interrupting my browsing
04:08Opera lets you choose from seven different streaming platforms and you can listen to music even outside the browser
04:14But what we really love is their video pop-out feature
04:17I can watch YouTube while studying the bees
04:21And all you have to do is click the link in my description to download Opera for free today
04:26And by day four their empire was underway
04:31They design it to serve their queen
04:40She is the only one in the nest who can lay eggs
04:43But without food she cannot lay so she sends her workers to find some
04:53They will fly up to three miles in search of food
05:01They collect nectar and pollen to bring back to the hive
05:05But some of the bees started to swarm
05:09They were swarming the same plastic I used to catch the queen
05:17It still carried her scent
05:19But inside our bees were going to save them
05:23They begin spraying pheromones into the air
05:27And it caused the other bees to rally
05:32Every last bee made their way into the hive
05:39And by day 10 the queen was beginning to lay her very first eggs
05:46They are the foundation to her future empire
05:50But the eggs are in danger
05:55A hive beetle
05:59And it was not alone
06:00These beetles eat and kill the eggs
06:05So the bees will try and stop them
06:08But their armor is too strong
06:13And as if things couldn't get any worse
06:17A wasp colony invaded the hive
06:20They had come from a nearby nest
06:24And the bees were overrun
06:26They had no choice but to save the queen
06:29So they rallied to form a protective wall around her
06:34And then they began to fight back
06:36They are fighting for their queen
06:47But this would not be a victory
06:53For most of the colony had died
06:57Only yesterday they were safe
07:01But today they are nearly extinct
07:04But bees are one of the few animals that respect their dead
07:10So the remaining few build a graveyard
07:14They are the number one most intelligent insect on our planet
07:22But before they could recover
07:25They must face a new kind of threat
07:28Parasites
07:30This is the Varroa destructor mite
07:33And they have taken over the hive
07:35They have been on the bees since day one
07:37And only now when the bees are at their weakest
07:41Have they chosen to strike
07:44Even the queen wasn't safe
07:51And each day more and more are killed
07:56And on their own the bees are doomed
07:58Instead of leaving them to rot
08:04I built a graveyard of my own
08:06They may have died today
08:10But they will feed the bees of tomorrow
08:13I now have two choices
08:15Let nature run its course
08:17Or there is option two
08:19I am going to save them
08:26But it will be extremely dangerous
08:28Because this is an oxylic acid vaporizer
08:31The fumes are deadly to me
08:33But also deadly to the mites
08:37But after all the dust settled, I noticed dozens and dozens of dead mites.
08:52The operation was a success, and the queen's eggs are all beginning to hatch.
08:59By day 30, they had become larva, soon pupa, and by day 41, the first bee was beginning
09:07to emerge.
09:10She carefully chews her way through the cocoon until she was able to take her very first step
09:16onto land.
09:18And over the next six sea days, the bees went from a colony to an empire.
09:32But I'm so used to living with them that I forgot this is crazy.
09:38But it's not for everyone.
09:40I mean, it's pretty cool.
09:44This is really nice.
09:45Did this come with the house?
09:47And it was about time to move them outside where they belong.
09:51But I took one piece of honeycomb for myself so I can try their honey for the very first
09:57time.
09:58And who better to taste the honey than the very creature who made it?
10:14Check out this video for more, and I'll see you in the next one.
10:18Bye.
10:19Bye.
10:20Bye.
10:21Bye.
10:22Bye.
10:23Bye.
