00:04young IT professionals. A cover-up attempt links to the underworld and swapping of blood samples.
00:10This was the 2024 Pune Porsche case. Not just another hit and run, but one that made national
00:15headlines because of power, privilege and a cover-up gone too far. And one year later,
00:20on 15 June 2025, the Juvenile Justice Board rejected the plea filed by the Pune police
00:25to try the accused Vedanta Agarwal as an adult. The board ruled that the child in conflict
00:29with the law will be tried under juvenile provisions as per existing norms, despite the Pune police's
00:34insistence that the crime was heinous and the accused just four months short of adulthood.
00:40The incident occurred on May 19, 2024 in Pune's Kalyani Nagar. Two young IT professionals,
00:45Anish Awadhyaya and Ashwini Kosta, were riding a motorcycle when they were hit and killed
00:50instantly by a speeding Porsche, allegedly driven by drunk 17-year-old Vedanta Agarwal.
00:55What seemed like a tragic accident soon spiraled into a high-profile scandal.
01:00The teen's father, real estate developer Vishal Agarwal, found himself at the centre of an alleged
01:05cover-up involving blood sample swaps, influence peddling and links to the underworld.
01:10Despite the seriousness of the offence, Vedanta was granted bail within hours of the crash.
01:14His condition? A 300-word essay on road safety. The backlash was swift and nationwide.
01:20Public anger forced authorities to send him to an observation home, but even that didn't last.
01:24On June 25, 2024, the Bombay High Court ordered his release, calling the juvenile board's
01:29remand order illegal and emphasising that juvenile laws must be fully implemented.
01:34The case has since drawn in doctors, police officers and politicians, all of whom are under
01:39scrutiny for allegedly helping to tamper with evidence. His mother, Shivani Agarwal, was even
01:44arrested for replacing his blood sample with hers and is currently out on interim bail granted
01:49by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the families of the two victims continue to demand justice as
01:53the trial proceeds under juvenile law.
