00:00Mr. Speaker, I rise today out of deep concern for students across Virginia and the country.
00:07Right now, this administration is withholding nearly $7 billion in congressionally approved
00:12education funding, money meant for public schools, and these funds after school programs,
00:17teaching, training, literacy programs, and more. And yet, without warning, the administration
00:23froze them, and the result has been delays and potential cuts and layoffs. School districts,
00:27including the ones that I represent, are now scrambling to fill unexpected budget gaps,
00:31and I've heard directly from educators in my district whose job will be on the line and whose
00:36students risk losing vital support if this funding isn't restored. It's our students who will pay the
00:41ultimate price, but it doesn't just stop there. The Department of Education has been painfully slow
00:45to respond to those seeking help, and my constituents have been waiting for months for the public service
00:51loan forgiveness that they are owned, and others have been placed on incorrect student loan repayment
00:56plans, and subjected to poor treatment from loan providers, left frustrated and financially
01:01strained. The administration must release K-12 funding and allow the Department of Education
01:05to continue their work. Our students deserve better than this waste and red tape.
