Sheffield United ran out easy winners in their pre-season friendly against York City on Tuesday night
Transcript
00:00So Ruben, a pretty emphatic win in your first day out as a Sheffield United manager,
00:05how do you think it went? How do you assess it?
00:07Well, I think it's always good to win. I think in those games, especially for us, it's just a must-win.
00:16We got it. And then the identity, the things that we show in position and against the ball,
00:20I think we show what we want to be in terms, there are so many spaces and situations that
00:25we need to manage better. But I'm glad that even in the game, we had that period where
00:31the things didn't go into our sight with the two goals that we conceded in four minutes.
00:37But even the team were able to manage, come back and then score, keep it calm. So I think it was
00:43a good test for us. I think they tried to play good football, they gave us some triggers. I think it
00:48was a very good first test in the position. So you almost take more from the bits that didn't go so well
00:54than the six goals that you scored. Is that fair or do you take as much from them?
00:57Yeah, well, I think everything, we are going to take everything. I think we are going to
01:01analyse the situations that we press and we win the ball back and we were vertical in transition.
01:05We analyse the downs that they break our pressure, the low defending, but also the times that
01:12we were in possession and when we lose it, we win it back. We need to be a little bit better in the
01:16defensive set plays. We conceded two goals today, one from the corner. It's something that we need to
01:22continue working on it. From the very beginning, we have been focusing on other aspects of the game.
01:29But I think it's also important that when we have the situation, we score the goals that we need to
01:32score and we need to protect our goals. Like Tyler did in one action and I was at the end,
01:37we protect our goals. So no, I will not take only the positives of the negatives. I will take the
01:42game where we will analyse and I will try to make this team better.
01:45Obviously, the result is important. You want to come out on the right side of it,
01:49but did you see enough from your team of what you are trying to implement in them?
01:53Were you pleased with what you saw and how they are adapting to it so far?
01:56Well, I see a team that is trying to do the things that we want to do. So,
01:58I see a team that is trying to put a lot of energy and the positional and behaviours that
02:04we want around that intensity. Say that, we have been working two weeks. It's the first game that we
02:10played together. Even in those games, especially the first one for me today, you need to see how
02:16they react to your coaching in the side. How can you coach? How do you speak with one or the other
02:20one? How do you react between them? So, I'm happy for that, but that doesn't mean anything. So,
02:26we got a victory. We just need to put the first level on what we hope it's going to be a good season.
