00:00the internal structure of the crystal and how it interacts with light. In order for a rainbow to
00:04form inside of a crystal, there needs to be enough internal surfaces for the light to reflect and
00:08refract off of. If a crystal doesn't have enough internal surfaces, or if the light doesn't interact
00:13with a crystal in a particular way, then rainbows won't form. One of the most well-known crystals
00:17for having rainbows inside of them is tourmaline. Tourmaline is a very complex crystal with a large
00:22unit cell. This means that the atoms are arranged in a very specific and intricate way inside of
00:27the crystal lattice. When light enters a tourmaline crystal, it can be split up into different colors
00:31because of the difference in refractive indices. The different colors of light then reflect off of
00:36the internal surfaces of the crystal and exit as a rainbow. Tourmaline is also unique.
