The Auburn Tigers made former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Jackson Arnold their No. 1 target in the transfer portal. Head coach Hugh Freeze broke down why at SEC Media Days.
Transcript
00:00A lot of quarterback options available in the transfer portal after last season.
00:04What was it about Jackson Arnold that made him the right guy?
00:07It goes back to his high school days, truthfully for me.
00:10That's where it began.
00:11I, like everyone else, wanted him.
00:14I thought he was super talented, and there's a reason he was Gatorade Player of the Year
00:20and five-star quarterback.
00:22So you see all of that, and then you go in your mind to,
00:26okay, the lack of production at Oklahoma has to be at least dealt with in your mind.
00:34And you go study all of that, and you find out the facts where they unfortunately had
00:40a lot of injuries, both offensive line and receiver.
00:43And I think that affected Jackson's play.
00:47But you see his toughness all throughout the year, especially the Alabama game,
00:52where he really just played one tough of a football game.
00:55And you combine that with the system I want to run, and does he have the skill set for that?
01:02And there's no question in my mind that he does, and that's why we went after Jackson.
