00:00Welcome to a brand new episode of the Tech Today show right here from New York City where we are
00:19unpacking the future of foldable smartphones. The Z Fold 7 and the Flip 7 on the show will be giving
00:26you a first look. Also what you should look out for if you're looking to buy a phone under 30,000
00:30rupees. The Nord 5 and the CE5. Those two phones, a quick review of both the devices. This and a whole
00:37lot more tech on this week's Tech Today with me Cyrus. Let's go. Apple has named long-time
00:48operations lead Sabi Khan as its new chief operating officer, succeeding Jeff Williams later this month.
00:55A 30-year Apple veteran, Khan has overseen global manufacturing, procurement, logistics and
01:01sustainability efforts, reducing Apple's carbon footprint by over 60%. His elevation signals
01:08Apple's commitment to operational excellence and reflects its deepening focus on markets like India.
01:14Starlink has received final approval from India's space regulator IN SPACE for commercial satellite
01:26internet services. The Starlink equipment kit will likely cost around 33,000 rupees in India with
01:33monthly unlimited data plans expected to be priced between 3,000 rupees to 4,200 rupees.
01:40Buyers will likely get a free one-month trial as well. These rates position India as one of Starlink's
01:46most affordable global markets, roughly half the US residential plans, though still premium compared to
01:53standard wired broadband.
01:54Hugging Face has open pre-orders for its desktop-side Rigi Mini open-source robot, available from $299 for the
02:08Lite version and $449 with wireless autonomy. The programmable kit supports Python and later
02:15JavaScript or even Scratch for creative coding and human-robot interaction. With shipping expected from fall
02:232025, the company aims to empower DIY developers and educators with accessible robotics.
02:34OpenAI could challenge Google Chrome as it plans to launch its own AI-powered web browser very soon. It will
02:41integrate conversational chat GPT features and the operator AI agent to automate tasks like foam filling, booking or shopping. This move gives
02:50OpenAI direct access to user data, making it a serious contender to Google's advertising-driven dominance.
02:56Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, has released BitChat, a messaging app designed to work without the Internet. It doesn't require usernames or even phone numbers. The app supports peer-to-peer chats, channels, password-protected groups and a panic mode for data wiping.
03:06Initially launched via test flight and Android beta, Dorsey admits it hasn't undergone security audits yet.
03:24The big Samsung launch of the year. Samsung Galaxy unpacked 2025. It was
03:54buzzing like anything and techies from all over the world came to attend the event. The South Korean giant
04:00launched its next line-up of foldables and undoubtedly the highlight of the event was this one, the Z Fold 7.
04:11When you talk about smartphone technology, yes, foldables are the epitome of the evolution of smartphones. And when you build something, you build it with heart and soul, right?
04:20Well, today on the show, I have the heart and the soul of foldable smartphones. This is the Flip 7 and the Samsung Galaxy Fold 7 in New York. I'm getting you this segment again from the Big Apple.
04:32Now, what do these next generation foldable smartphones and the Flip phone offer and how do they enhance your overall experience? Let me show you in this exclusive segment right here. The first look of the Flip 7 and the Fold 7 on the Tech Today Show.
04:46And here they are, the new generation Samsung Foldable Phones. Lighter, slimmer and more powerful on paper.
04:57Samsung announced the launch of three new phones and also added new Galaxy Watches to the lineup.
05:03We will focus on the two impact devices which will be coming to India very soon. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Z Flip 7.
05:11Let's first talk about the Fold 7, the thinnest fold device by Samsung.
05:17When folded, the phone is slimmer than some of the existing slab phones in the market at 8.9 mm, which when unfolded is 4.2 mm.
05:26That's 26% thinner than the previous generation.
05:29Also, Samsung has been able to shave up to 61 grams from the last phone.
05:34At 215 grams, it's one of the lightest foldable phones in the market right now and even lighter than the S25 Ultra.
05:42Yes, it looks sleek but it's built tough thanks to the use of thicker glass, great for titanium and aluminium armour.
05:50Feels good in the hands and even when folded, I didn't have any problem with one hand use.
05:55Open the device and you get this 8-inch AMOLED display that's great as a multitasking canvas.
06:02You can run multiple applications on the same window and all of this is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the most powerful chipset in the Android ecosystem.
06:11What I liked is that the 6.5-inch front AMOLED display this time has fewer bezels and is bigger which makes content viewing easier and more fun.
06:21With One UI 8, Samsung is pushing the boundaries of how you can use the AI on your phone.
06:28Be it image editing, event planning or just casually chatting with AI.
06:36This phone can do it all.
06:39With 7 years of software updates and security updates, you don't have to worry about the hardware becoming obsolete in just a few years.
06:47Now let's talk about the optics.
06:49On the rear sits a 200-megapixel primary camera with 2x optical quality zoom, a 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom.
07:02I liked that Samsung is prioritizing camera on this foldable device.
07:07We can't really speak on how good the quality is without testing it, but Samsung says you're getting a better sensor this time around, which means better results.
07:15Oh yes, you can also polish your images using the array of AI and editing features, which are also good.
07:24Samsung has squeezed a 4400 mAh battery inside this phone, which on paper seems less compared to what you're getting in the market right now.
07:32However, we observed that Samsung has improved its battery optimization with the S25 series and feel that 4400 mAh, on paper despite being less, might practically get you through the day easily.
07:46Again, we will put this to the test in our review.
07:49Alright, so let's talk about some of the enhancements, the new feel of what you will get with the Fold 7 and the Flip 7.
07:56Again, this new display on the front is massive and I think a lot of the content that you will be consuming, you will be doing via this display because you won't have to flip the phone open.
08:06Yes, it is majestic, looks very nice that you have a foldable phone, but when you close it up, this is a good display for you to, you know, maybe see notifications, have a little view of the content that you want to have a look.
08:20But, let's talk about the other phone here, enhanced chipset, overall the feel and the material that have been used is really premium and you get the lighter form factor, I mean, there has been a problem with foldables that they tend to get heavier, right, but it's not the case, even if you fold it up, it kind of comes across as thick as a regular smartphone and under 9mm if you want to keep this kind of form factor, it is apt for any size pocket.
08:48So, yes, in terms of engineering, Samsung has done a good job in making sure that the foldable and the Flip, both of them, are very hand-friendly, I would say.
09:01Speaking of hand-friendly, the Flip 7 is a perfect companion if you are looking for a compact, no-nonsense smartphone that's also stylish.
09:10What's changed from last time, this 4.1-inch AMOLED display which barely has any bezels.
09:16This is a 120Hz display with 2600 nits of peak brightness, which means even outdoors, you will be able to see content easily.
09:26The main display is larger at 6.9 inches which is ideal for your daily work.
09:32The build material and quality feels good in the hands and the new colors add to the premium style statement that many seek.
09:38It's powered by a 3-nanometer Exynos 2500 chip with Gemini integration.
09:44What's fascinating is that you can run all of the Gemini multimodal features without flipping the phone open.
09:51Just tap and hold the power button and interact with Gemini.
09:54It can even tell you what to wear to a party or vacation using just the front camera.
09:59All you need to do is ask the right questions.
10:07And you also get 12GB of RAM for all of the heavy multitasking and processing.
10:13With storage of up to 512GB, the Flip 7 offers more than enough memory for all of your content.
10:20There is a 50 megapixel primary camera on this phone which could come in handy when you are making videos or just clicking a few Insta pictures.
10:30The best part is that you can also use the outer camera for high resolution selfies.
10:35The interface is simple to navigate and you can always lean on AI to fix all of your images.
10:40Inside this phone is a 4300mAh battery which is capable of delivering 31 hours of video playback as the company claims.
10:49It comes bundled with 25Watt wired charging and we still think that it could have been more.
10:55We will put it to the test on our Tech Today review later but on paper it seems like it will be able to get you through the day.
11:04Samsung has also launched the FE version of the Flip which is relatively more affordable.
11:09It comes with a 6.7 inch main display, most of the AI features that the Flip 7 already has and also runs on the Exynos 2400 chip.
11:19The outer display is 3.4 inch and one can even call it a repackaged model of the previous Flip phone.
11:27While the camera setup remains almost the same as the Flip 7, the battery is relatively lesser at 4300mAh.
11:33And then we have the new smartwatches in the Galaxy family, the Watch 8 and the 8 Classic.
11:42Both are powered by One UI 8 and also come loaded with Gemini AI features.
11:50Samsung has also added updates to the health and sleep tracking features of this watch
11:55and if you are looking for a comprehensive fitness tracking gizmo, you should definitely consider these.
12:05Pricing for the new Fold 7 starts at Rs 1,74,999 for the 256GB model and it is available up to 1TB.
12:14The Flip 7 starts at Rs 1,99,999 in India and the FE variant has been priced at Rs 89,999.
12:25What do you think about Samsung's new smartphones?
12:28Would you buy one?
12:29Stay tuned to the show as we will be getting the full reviews of these devices very soon.
12:34So this was a glimpse at the latest Samsung Galaxy Foldable Portfolio and yes, I am excited for what they have in store for the Indian market.
12:45But this is the premium segment, right?
12:46What about the people who want something more affordable, something under the 30,000 category?
12:51For them, I have the OnePlus Nord 5 and the CE 5.
12:55Let's check out what these phones have to offer in our Tech Today review.
13:04Where the OnePlus Nord 4 offered the Indian users a solid bang-for-the-buck experience, the Nord 5 picks up from its predecessor.
13:18However, there are some upgrades worth mentioning.
13:24The Nord 5 has a larger 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a higher 1.5K resolution,
13:30an ultra-smooth 144Hz refresh rate and a brightness of 1,800 nits.
13:37In simpler terms, this means texts look crisper, scrolling feels smoother
13:41and the screen stays readable even under harsh sunlight.
13:49And the 144Hz means an awesome gaming experience.
13:54Design-wise, the Nord 5 carries a clean, minimalistic aesthetic.
13:58Nothing flashy, but very polished.
14:01Though I will confess, we liked the metal unibody of the Nord 4 and the Nord 5 design doesn't stand out like before.
14:09At 211 grams, it feels solid, but not heavy.
14:13Despite a massive battery, it still fits comfortably in the hand or pocket.
14:20Under the hood, the Nord 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chipset.
14:25A significant step-up from last year's model.
14:28Faster app launches, zero stutter while switching between applications,
14:31smoother gaming, and overall a flagship-level experience in the mid-range.
14:36Pair that with 8GB or 12GB RAM and storage up to 512GB and you've got a phone that keeps up with all of your multi-tasking needs.
14:46It runs on Oxygen OS 15 based on Android 15 and you even get long-term software and security support.
14:54For camera, the rear setup stays familiar with a 50MP main sensor and an 8MP ultrawide sensor.
15:02But the game-changer is the 50MP front camera, a huge jump from last year's 60MP shooter.
15:10This front camera now supports 4K at 60fps, both on the front and rear,
15:16making it one of the most vlog-friendly or video-call-ready phones in the sub-30K range.
15:22Check out some of the samples that we clicked.
15:30Battery life is another strong point.
15:32With a 6800mAh battery, you can easily go a day and a half or maybe even do on moderate usage.
15:39Even if you're streaming, shooting, or gaming, you won't be running for a charger by the evening.
15:46And when you do need to top up, the 80W fast charging gets you from zero to full in just over an hour.
15:53So while we have an understanding that the OnePlus Nord 5 is sailor-made for someone who wants a better processing power
16:00and more power and battery in their device, but what about the people who want something more affordable
16:04and yet don't want to compromise on the battery department?
16:08For them, we have the CE5.
16:13The Nord CE5 is the more affordable sibling and like the Nord 5, it's more than just a minor update.
16:20It gets a slightly smaller 6.77-inch FHT Plus display, but still keeps a smooth 120Hz refresh rate
16:29and pushes brightness up to 1430 nits, so it's perfectly usable outdoors.
16:37It's not AMOLED, which means colors won't pop out as much.
16:42It's also lighter than the Nord 5 at 199 grams.
16:46The design feels a little more plastic, but it's comfortable in the hand
16:50and an easy-to-use one-handed, a good option for users looking for something practical and lightweight.
16:57The CE5 runs on MediaTek's Dimensity 8350 Apex chipset paired with 8GB or 12GB RAM and storage up to 256GB.
17:07For most users who use WhatsApp, YouTube, email or light gaming, the phone performs smoothly.
17:13But it's not built for power users.
17:16Push it hard with graphic-intensive games or even heavy multitasking and you will notice the difference compared to the Nord 5.
17:23On the back, you get a 50MP primary sensor and an 8MP ultrawide sensor just like the Nord 5.
17:30But the front camera is 16MP and it maxes out at 1080p video at 60fps.
17:36Selfies are Insta-worthy and even decent for video calls, but you lose out on higher resolution for front video features.
17:44The battery is where the CE5 might just surprise you.
17:49It packs a massive 7100mAh battery, one of the biggest we have seen in any mid-range phone.
17:56That's two full days of battery life easily.
17:59You can scroll, stream and even hotspot your laptop and still not worry.
18:05Like the Nord 5, it also supports 80W fast charging, which is rare in this price bracket.
18:11So here's the bottom line. Starting at Rs. 30,000, the Nord 5 offers near-flagship performance with a good display and front camera.
18:22Under Rs. 23,000, the Nord CE5 focuses on more practical value, long battery, clean UI and solid everyday use.
18:31But competition is fierce under the 30,000 segment.
18:35You get the Ico Nio 10, the POCO F7 with even better gaming performance.
18:40And the Motorola H50 Pro comes with a curved display and the Nothing 3A Pro offers a cleaner UI with a unique design.
18:48Each of these brings something different.
18:51But the OnePlus still nails it with battery and software consistency across both Nord models.
18:57So there you have it, the Nord CE5 and the Nord 5.
19:02Good options under Rs. 30,000 if you are considering to buy phones in this category.
19:07Now, I have to explore New York a little more.
19:09But before I go, let me just toss to the other segment that I have on the show, which is on productivity apps.
19:16Now, if you're using Android or iOS, it doesn't really matter.
19:19You need these apps on your phone to enhance your overall productivity.
19:22So, let me just give you a few options in our next segment.
19:34Let's start with Android.
19:36First, TickTick.
19:38That's free to start with.
19:39TickTick is ideal if you like organizing your day with lists, calendars and reminders.
19:46The free version is actually quite generous.
19:49It includes smart task lists, the Pomodoro timer, habit tracking and up to two reminders per task.
19:57If you want extras like calendar views, filters, detailed stats and unlimited tasks and subtasks,
20:04the premium plan costs Rs. 269 a month or Rs. 2599 annually, which brings the monthly average down even further.
20:14Next, Notion.
20:17Once again, it's free for personal use.
20:19Notion is your digital workspace.
20:22You can use it for journaling, note-taking, project planning, even as a budget tracker on reading law.
20:28Notion's Android app also includes built-in AI to summarize notes, generate action items and create content blocks.
20:36And finally, Focus To Do.
20:40Another free app, which is perfect if you struggle with distractions.
20:44It blends the Pomodoro technique with task management.
20:47You set a timer, focus for 25 minutes and grow a little virtual plant as a reward.
20:54The pro version unlocks cloud sync, advanced statistics and unlimited project folders.
21:00Now, let's switch to iOS.
21:04First up, things three.
21:06This is one of the cleanest, most powerful task managers available on iOS.
21:11It's beautifully designed, supports natural language input and helps you manage everything from quick errands to complex projects.
21:19There's no subscription here, you just pay Rs. 999 once and that's it.
21:29Next, we have Fantastical.
21:31This app super changes your iPhone calendar.
21:34You can type in Lunch with Ananya next Friday at 1 and it'll exactly know what you mean.
21:41It syncs reminders, tasks, events and even weather updates in one place.
21:47The free version works well for basic use but if you want multiple calendar sets, integrations
21:53and more collaboration tools, the premium plan is Rs. 699 a month on iOS.
22:02Finally, Forest.
22:04This one is all about focus.
22:06When you want to concentrate, you plant a virtual tree.
22:09If you leave the app before time's up, the tree will die.
22:12It may sound silly but this visual system really works, especially when paired with focus,
22:17sounds and progress tracking.
22:19That's it for this week's episode.
22:29Do remember, you can always send us your suggestions and feedback on the ID and we will be getting back to you with our responses.
22:35If you have any tech buying guides or tech tips that you want to know, please write to us.
