00:21Sharing the news from a hospital bed and a video posted to Instagram by event organizers July 12th.

00:28Hello, fellow cons, and I am very, very sorry to tell you that I've been diagnosed with viral bronchitis.

00:47And I've been told by my doctors I cannot fly, and I would have to fly five hours to get there.

00:59The Jaws alum, who appeared in the Oscar-winning Steven Spielberg film 50 years ago,

01:05then apologizes to fans for backing out of the annual shark-themed convention.

01:10I'm terribly sorry because I had planned to be there and had been looking forward to it.

01:20However, Richard, who's the last surviving member of the famed Jaws trio,

01:25which includes himself along with the late Roy Scheider and Robert Shaw,

01:29says he has to take time to focus on his recovery.
